On Sunday, September 14, winds of 40 mpt. with gusts of up to 60 mph related to Hurricane Ike blasted the Dayton/Cincinnati area. Power was knocked out for 100,000 people, stretching all the way to Columbus. Virtually all of Dayton was without power from approximately 3:00 pm. until (at my house) 2:15 in the morning.
The good news is that original estimates were that it might take "a couple of days" to restore power.
Entire trees were uprooted, roads closed with fallen trees and branches, and debris was strewn across roads. One shopping center at Cross Pointe lost its roof.

What struck me was the utter lack of professionalism by the cities and/or Dayton Power and Light in COMMUNICATING anything. We never were told what sections were under repair, whether DP&L was making progress, and the extent of the damage from any official sources.

We just got inundated with rain here in southern Michigan but not a lot of wind despite the advisories.

300,000+ without power in central Ohio. American Electric Power has crews they sent to Texas coming back. No school for my kids today.

Is that the same DP&L who mandated company-wide use of the term ‘Dayton West’ because ‘West Dayton’ had so many bad connotations (at least in their narrow little minds)?

Mr. Its is on his way to family with supplies here in Texas who are without electricity and gas, and are still cleaning up the debris. They were able to buy a generator yesterday but there’s no gas anywhere around to run it. They felt they could make it on their on a few days but it was too much without gas for at least the generator.
Good luck to all who have been hit by the storm.

!!!WARNING!!!
Anyone carrying supplies and gas in the back of pickup trucks should have them covered or tied. Seems thieves are stealing stuff out of vehicles when they’re stopped at red lights.

The current estimate is 200,000 without power in DP&L's region. I lost a 30 foot tall tree that brushed my house when it fell over. I still don't have power, but the phone kept working.

I lived in the Englewood/Vandalia area for years, just moved out of there in 06 here to New England. Any news on how those areas fared?

Both seem to have much of their power back, and plenty of gasoline.
