Biden: Americans Want a Sleepover With People They Like
ABC News ^ | September 14, 2008 | ABC News staff

Posted on 09/15/2008 3:45:29 PM PDT by Baladas

Americans just want to have "a sleepover with people they like," said Democratic vice-presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., Sunday, accusing Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., of being "divorced" from the nation’s economic woes.

"Just the other day Sen. McCain confessed and I quote, 'It's easy for me to go to Washington and frankly be divorced from the day-to-day challenges of the American people,'" Biden said.

I don't know what likeability would have to do with Joe Biden, but a SLEEPOVER???

How old are these people, ten?

Where's the rest of that quote from McCain? Because I don't even need to be told that it's incomplete and out of context.

Rush covered this on his show today. It was quite funny. Next up there to Obama's admission that he won the contest handily in terms of running negative ads! They are just hilarious! Every day, there's a new gaffe from the guys. America would so love to do a sleepover with them! (laughing)

He makes it sound so Studio54.

Out of touch doesn’t begin to state Biden’s mental status.

Sleepover? That is a very bizarre comment.

I thought that Gov. Palin said that, referring to how Congress works and why they’re out of touch with the people.

We don't like you Joe......that's why you're still trying to find a sleepover....60 years too late.

Sleepover? I'm not voting for a sleepover. I'm voting for president and VP.

And I damn well don't want to have a sleepover with Biden or Obama, or McCain, and Palin's married so that's off limits.

Rush referred to this today. He said that Biden is the gift that keeps on giving!

The funny thing is that he said it in North Carolina, home of John Edwards, who's stench remains even though the body is gone.

McCain said it at the 9/11 forum, defending Sarah Palin’s experience as a mayor, saying she’s been out there dealing with the day to day problems of people. For whatever reason, he decided to contrast that experience with himself as a senator. It was a totally incompetent statement that will keep giving to the Democrats all election long.

Along with that and saying the economy is fundamentally strong today of all days, I think McCain has probably given back all his gains. He may not be able to get them back when 0bama puts the ‘divorced’ comment on 24 hour loop.

Context is a meaning-changer in this case. At http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13400.html

Asked by Judy Woodruff of PBS about Palin’s stint as “a small-town mayor,” McCain replied: “Listen, mayors have the toughest job, I think, in America. It’s easy for me to go to Washington and, frankly, be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.”

If an incompetent statement will erase all McCain’s gains, then the almost daily Obama and/or Biden gaffes will have them at negative. There are plenty of ‘rat gaffes to play on 24-hour loops, if they want to do it that way.

Along with that and saying the economy is fundamentally strong today of all days, I think McCain has probably given back all his gains

Feel free to put McCain's quote into context. If you want to go further, feel free to compare what McCain said today with the statement Reagan made in October 1987 following the stock market meltdown. McCain's full quote:

“Today we are seeing tremendous upheaval on Wall Street. The American economy is in crisis. Unemployment is on the rise and our financial markets are in turmoil. People are concerned about our economic future. But let me say something: this economic crisis is not the fault of the American people. Our workers are the most innovative, the hardest working, the best skilled, most productive, most competitive in the world. My opponents may disagree, but those fundamentals of America are strong. No one can match an American worker. Our workers sell more goods to more markets than any other on earth. Our workers have always been the strength of our economy, and they remain the strength of our economy today. But their efforts are not being matched at the top. From Washington to Wall Street, the top of our economy is broken. We have seen self interest, greed, irresponsibility and corruption undermine the hard work of the American people. It’s time to set things right. When I am President, we’re going to put an end to the abuses in Washington and on Wall Street that have resulted in the crisis we are seeing unfold today. “Enough is enough. We are going to reform the way Wall Street does business and put an end to the greed that has driven our markets into chaos. We will stop multimillion dollar payouts to CEO’s who have broken the public trust. We will put an end to running Wall Street like a casino. We will make businesses work for the benefit of their shareholders and employees. And we will make sure that your savings, IRA, 401k and pension accounts are protected.”
