Doctor Phillip Butler is a 1961 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a former light-attack carrier pilot. In 1965 he was shot down over North Vietnam where he spent eight years as a prisoner of war. He is a highly decorated combat veteran who was awarded two Silver Stars, two Legion of Merits, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Heart medals.

After his repatriation in 1973 he earned a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California at San Diego and became a Navy Organizational Effectiveness consultant. He completed his Navy career in 1981 as a professor of management at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is now a peace and justice activist with Veterans for Peace.

Why is it that they always get these guys from the VFP or John Kerry's old outfit to attack real men? Read through this guys sniveling whiny complaints (John wasn't tortured for five years - only two or three).

Now, he's a - drum roll, please - community activist! Surprise!

This was all I needed to read to totally dismiss his comments.

Right, that’s what I thought. He’s a socialist or a commie.

By his own bio, “He is now a peace and justice activist with Veterans for Peace.”

Yup, he is a committed leftist, for sure.

My first thoughts as well. Sociology = community activist.

So we’re not supposed to listen to McCain because he is old and traumatized from his POW time.

BUT we are supposed to listen to this guy because he is old and was a POW.

I’m confused.

I'll take Col. George E. “Bud” Day, Medal of Honor recipients word over Phillip Butler's any time.

Like John McCain, Col. George E. “Bud” Day spent over 5 yrs in Vietnamese POW camps. Day and John McCain were cell-mates for about 2 and a half years. Day is a legendary military hero with more medals and ribbons than anyone since General Douglas MacArthur.

There’s always a percentage of captives that side with the enemy. Self preservation? I don’t know. I really don’t know about this guy, but I’ll bet he’s the only one that went through this ordeal with John McCain that doesn’t fell a strong attachment with a fellow POW. He’s just more than willing to be exploited by the Dems for political purposes.

Funny how Dr Phil became a rabid, anti-war Leftist after he got back from Vietnam - and then became a Professor at the Navy PostGrad School.

Sucking off the same government/military industrial complex teat he despised. That’s real principle for you.

Disclaimer: I would consider myself to to be a tepid McCain supporter.

So...I can't figure out what McCain did that makes this guy hate him. His item by item list makes me think McCain might be better than I thought.

I wonder if there has ever been another President that would fly off the handle from time to time.

Question: Do you know what hey call the Navy Midshipman who graduates from Annapolis at the bottom of his class? Answer: Ensign.

I like the KoolAid Drinker thing.

“It is also disappointing to see him take on and support Bush’s war in Iraq, even stating we might be there for another 100 years.”

Not exactly what McCain said but then who cares about the facts. I loved the way this guy tried his best to poo-poo and discredit everything about John McCain’s record. I kept thinking, what you are doing is discrediting your own history!

I had the privilege of having Col. George “Bud” Day as an instructor during my MSc in International Affairs program. Finest man I ever met. He is a close, personal friend of McCain and can tell you why he is voting for McCain. Look up Day’s record and compare it to this KoolAid Drinker. This guy is in an alternate universe where thinking is not allowed

Andrew Jackson, another military man,had a righteous temper, knew how to take care of those impudent bastards.

But unfortunately Dueling as well as horsewhipping is outlawed nowadays and the punks know it.

Phillip Butler

A man who has the right to be honored for his service to this country.

However, that's ONE man's view of McCain. Kerry had literally hundreds of Swiftboat vets condemning his treacherous actions and statements before congress.

Where are the hundreds of McCain's fellow POW detractors?

(Crickets chirping?)

Ronald Reagan had a major in Sociology... and I personally don’t appreciate you broad slamming majors in respectable and essential fields with completely ignorant and unfounded claims. Reagan was a masterful leader and one helluva President, I don’t think you quite rank high enough on the Social (sic) ladder to slam him.

Phillip Butler was perhaps the only POW who claims that the North Vietnamese Captors never used John Kerry's Senate Hearing Statements against the POWs.

It tells you all you need to know about this guy. The Ad was run by a group calling themselves 'Brave New PAC' as in 'Brave New World'.

Ronald Reagan had a degree in Economics. I took several classes in sociology in college and they were a joke. Everyone knew that as an elective a class in sociology was an easy A.

<<<Being from Illinois, I know a little about Reagan...

Clarification: Ronald Reagan graduated in 1932 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science and ECONOMICS. He moved to Davenport, Iowa, to accept a position as a sports announcer for radio station WOC. His career led him on to Hollywood and then into state and national politics...

The above narrative is off the Eureka College website. Not so sure he really was a Sociology major as Economics is a major within Dept. of Social Science at that College. That said, he certainly knew BOTH PEOPLE AND ECONOMICS :) I personally miss his wisdome & wish he was still here!
