Obama Heads to Hollywood for Fund Raisers
Wall Street Journal ^ | 9/15/2008 | Nick TImiraos

While his own celebrity status has been a topic of great debate, Barack Obama is heading to Los Angeles to enlist big donors — celebrities included — to contribute to his campaign.

Obama attends two events Tuesday in Beverly Hills, Calif., including a $2,500-a-head event at the Beverly Wilshire that includes a performance by Barbra Streisand. She had initially endorsed Hillary Clinton after Obama won the backing of Oprah Winfrey last year.

Hollywood strongly supported Bill Clinton during his two election campaigns, and while many Clinton backers faithfully lined up behind his wife, there were a handful of high-profile defections — most notably when longtime Clinton supporter David Geffen endorsed Obama and had harsh words for the Clintons.

The Illinois senator will also attend an early evening $28,500-a-plate dinner at Greystone Mansion, which was originally part of the estate of California oil tycoon Edward Doheny. The home, now owned by the city of Beverly Hills, is a popular filming location and was featured most recently in “There Will Be Blood,” whose main character is modeled after Doheny.

Obama reported a $66 million fundraising haul in August, compared to $47 million for John McCain. McCain, who has accepted $84 million in federal funds, won’t be able to solicit contributions for his campaign but can have donations instead made to the Republican National Committee. Obama’s decision to opt out of public financing for the general election means that he’ll take time off the campaign trail Tuesday to keep his campaign coffers brimming.

See...there you go. A real man of the people. Only $28.5K per plate. An elitist would charge $29K per plate, after all.

The dumb @ss refuses public funding so he now has to campaign to raise money, where he again will say what he needs to say to get the money. Look for this to be a closed event with no reporters.

I can just see all the hollywood elite there, writing checks to a guy they all know now is the worst candidate ever put on a national ticket. I couldn’t believe that the democrats could do worse than Kerry or Gore or even Dukakis but they did... Clinton won for one reason, because of that long eared Texan’s third party canidacy..

This country and the world for that matter, cannot survive another Carter presidency...

I asked one of his supporters this, and he replied to me in a reverent tone, “His house has many mansions...”

Hopefully a busboy or a member of the kitchen staff will have their cell phone w/them...(remember, that is how we all found out about the ‘bitter and clinging Pennsylvanians’ from Barry’s evening with the beautiful people of San Francisco).

How I wish the McCain campaign would go to Peoria and hold a $2.80 a plate function to “hang with a hero”.
