Vanity: Senator McCain, Please Take Tucker Bounds Off the Air
Moi ^ | 09/16/2008 | Vanity

Senator McCain,

I'm sure Tucker Bounds is a nice guy, but he makes a simply dreadful spokesperson. He stutters. He stammers. He seems unsure of himself. He is unable to stay on message. He ad-libs in ways that make news, which is not helpful to the coherence of your campaign.

His performance with Campbell Brown should have been the end in and of itself. Instead, you canceled your Larry King appearance in protest. Ms. Brown was not the problem. Mr. Bounds was. Does anyone think Nicole Wallace would have allowed Campbell Brown to walk all over her like Bounds did? Never. She is far more effective. As is Nancy Pfotenauer.

I'm sure there is plenty of work for Mr. Bounds to do elsewhere. Please Mr. McCain--take him off the air.

Sincerely,
Montag813
Your humble FReeper supporter

Agreed.

and please PLEASE have his replacement memorize this simple Troopergate comeback:

“If my state trooper brother-n-law threatened to kill my father, I think I’d tell his boss too”

Simple, to the point, frames the argument. Much better than your usual spokespeople who get a dear in the headlights look when asked about it.

And two other points McCain NEEDS to jump on.

A) This Obama/Iraq story. We need ads!!

B) This Rangel story. When this happens to a Republican.. you would be seeing the perp with our candidate 24/7.

It’s time for some pictures of Rangel and Obama to make it into ads!!!!

When Norah ODonnell was beating him up, DNCNBC literally dropped his feed when he tried to respond. But yeah, the two chicks McCain has are much better spokespersons that Tucker. Tucker is better inside the office writing the talking points than delivering them.

How about these talking points?

1. Obama supports ethanol subsidies which has raised the price of every food item in the grocery store. If you are paying more for groceries, thank Barack Obama. And tell him to kill the ethanol subsidies!

2. Tell Sen Obama that I will email him as soon as my injuries heal from the Hanoi Hilton. If he is upset that I don’t carry a blackberry, maybe it’s because he has never carried a weapon.

3. It’s interesting that the Obama campaign never talks about Iraq anymore. Apparently, he no longer cares about it now that we are winning. But when he thought he we might be losing, his opposition was his primary qualification for office and enabled him to beat Hillary.

4. How does Sen Obama explain why Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac donated more to him than any other sitting Senator save one? Is it because those bloated government bureaucracies expect that Obama will be more likely to bail them out and avoid punishing them for their failures and corruption? And why did Lehman employees give three times as much to Sen Obama? Goldman Sachs too?

5. If Sen Obama and his surrogates are so concerned about my health, why won’t he release his ACTUAL medical records instead of just talking points from some doctor? Sen McCain has been BEYOND transparent to assure voters what they are getting but Sen Obama appears to be hiding something.

I’d recommend Rudy as a replacement — quick, decisive and not afraid to stick it to that phony Obama

I totally agree with your letter and have been discussing the lightwieghtedness of Bounds for some time. There are several more effective communicators working for McCain. I believe the one you mentioned was the woman that I’ve seen do a very good job.

It was a terrible mistake for President Bush to keep Scott McLellan on as long as he did. Tucker Bounds is not AS bad as Scotty, but he isn’t very good at this and it is damaging.

I guess Nancy Pfotenhauer can’t be everywhere :)

THat would be a lie.

He was fired for going behind her back to push through funding projects she had already vetoed. He held press conference detailing how he was going to defy her.
He was fired for insubordination.

Wasn’t stating why he was fired. Was stating what any normal person would do if this happed to them (in reference to the claims of “illegal contacts”. GOP mouthpieces have seconds to reply on these talkshows. They need a quick answer that frames the debate.

Heck yeah! Take this guy off. He reminds me of Scott McClellan, former press secretary of the White House. The guy just sounds and comes off incompetent.

Everyone please email the McCain campaign with your feelings regarding Tucker Bounds. Let’s have a modest goal of having him off the airwaves by the end of the week. Thank you.

This clown came out yesterday and said Palin would “not cooperate” with the Troopergate investigator. There are a 100 ways to say Palin won’t talk to the guy besides “won’t cooperate”.

One Scott McCellan was one too many.

Email the campaign. Call them. Let's get this done. The Senator is loyal, but loyalty can not come at the expense of competence.
