House working on biased Democratic Energy Bill with Rangel Pork for NYC
CSPAN | 9-16-2008 | Vanity from watching C-SPAN

Posted on 09/16/2008 11:28:41 AM PDT by topher

The Republicans are very angry what is going on currently in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Il) is acting as speaker. He has already cut short votes -- only to be overruled.

The Democrats have put a nice chunk of PORK in the bill via Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) for money for NYC.

The Republicans are furious that they did have any Committe e meetings on this Bill and that the Bill magically appeared last night.

I am only putting this Vanity version on BREAKING until someone can either find a better article or some other vehicle to let Freepers know what is going on in the House.

The Republicans are trying evey blocking tactic they can, but they just don't have the votes.

This thread needs to be replaced by a current DRILL HERE DRILL NOW thread or something.

Good grief! Now we have to watch Jesse Jackson, Jr. lead the House... Maybe we are in the end times [/sarcasm off]

should read:

The Republicans are furious that they did have NOT any Committee meetings on this Bill and that the Bill magically appeared last night at 9:45pm -- without any input by a Republican.

Ping...

We need a better thread than this about what is going on in the House right now...

I would dare call rape of the American People, except I definitely would get in trouble with it. Most callers into C-SPAN were very, very angry...

Pork for NY, huh? Sounds like the DEMs in the House are trying to give a gift to NY in exchange for Obama votes in the fall.

The Republicans demanded the gift be removed from the bill [which is supposed to be an energy bill).

Voting was along Party lines and Republicans lost that challenge.

The Republicans also tried to adjourn the House, but that motion was voted down as well...

I have no doubt these people are taking advantage of a very busy election season to provide cover for what they hope to foist on the people of the country. They never miss a trick. If the Left did one tenth as much work for America and its people as the do lying and obfuscating about their myriad of earmarks and pork projects we’d all be better off.

There are simply no words or phrases to express the contempt I have for the ruling class in Washington.

Republicans should walk out and hold a press conference on the steps. Point out how Rangel is still sitting on Ways and Means, more wasteful spending by the Dems and how the Democrats are looking to rip off the tax payer.

That would make for a nice evening news run...

More government is never a good thing. People just don’t get it taxpayers continue to get raped by Democrats and people cheer, they get wrapped up in oratory and sound bites and won’t understand the real impact until they cant feed their kids. I wish they had the votes in the House.

We have a “Conservative” Dem in the House (Dan Boren) representing our district.

It would take a miracle to oust him at this point. He has huge name recognition, millions of dollars in the bank and a weak opponent.

In 2 years he will be running for US Senator here in Oklahoma. He’s not helping anything. I want him defeated for re-election. But without some kind of miracle it won’t happen.

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME

adam clayton powell

Ultimately, Powell used up his political currency. Members of the House, happy to find a reason to silence him, expelled him for pocketing congressional employment paychecks to his wife, and for taking junkets abroad with female staffers. The fighter in him took the case all the way to the Supreme Court. He won back his seat. Even then, he was docked $25,000 to repay the illegal kickback. But the people of Harlem grew tired of Powell's unbelievable record of roll call absences and endless litigations. In 1970, they finally voted him out. Two years later, he died of prostate cancer at the age of 63.

In January 1967, following allegations that Powell had misappropriated Committee funds for his personal use and other corruption allegations, the House Democratic Caucus stripped Powell of his committee chairmanship. The full House refused to seat him until completion of an investigation by the Judiciary Committee. In March the House voted 307 to 116 to exclude him. Powell won the special election in April to fill the vacancy caused by his exclusion, but did not take his seat.

By the mid-1960s Powell was being increasingly criticized for mismanagement of the committee budget, taking trips abroad at public expense, including travel to his retreat on the Bahamian isle of Bimini, and missing sittings of his committee. He was also under fire in his district, where his refusal to pay a slander judgment made him subject to arrest. He spent increasing amounts of time in Florida and displayed his wealth more than was wise for a Congressman representing a poor district. In June 1970 he was defeated in the Democratic primary by Charles B. Rangel , who has represented the area ever since. Powell failed to get on the ballot for the November election as an independent. He resigned as minister at the Abyssinian Baptist Church and moved to Bimini.

Rangel was picked for the slot by Percy Sutton and Basil Patterson (father of the current NYS Governor). Rangel, Patterson, Sutton and their boy David Dinkins have been the black power structure in NYC for thirty-five years.

Sutton is the brains behind the outfit. He wrote a letter to Harvard twenty plus years ago. He wrote it at the request of Khalid al-mansour, a Texas based radical Black Muslim. The letter was a recommendation of a young Barack Obama.

So this is why Bloomberg isn’t concerned about the lost revenue from Lehman.

He already had some pork to make up for the shortfall.

How very convenient.

Wonder if Obama will be forced to comment on the uncontrollable spending by Dems.

Getting to ‘yes’ on more offshore drilling? Not yet.
Congress is set to consider several energy bills this week, but hopes dim for passage of any of them.

By Gail Russell Chaddock | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

from the September 16, 2008 edition

Washington - To get to “yes” on sweeping new energy legislation, US lawmakers this week will first have to neutralize “poison pills” that both sides acknowledge could yet scuttle passage of any bill. Foremost among these are big caveats top Democrats want in return for relaxing a decades-old moratorium on offshore oil and gas drilling in most US waters, including rolling back $17 billion in tax breaks for Big Oil and cutting states out of any royalties from new lease sales off their coasts.

Is this the bill?

To advance the national security interests of the United States by reducing its dependency on oil through renewable and clean, alternative fuel technologies while building a bridge to the future through expanded access to Federal oil and natural gas resources, revising the relationship between the oil and gas industry and the consumers who own those resources and deserve a fair return from the development of publicly owned oil and gas, ending tax subsidies for large oil and gas companies, and Bill # H.R.6899

Maybe the pork for NYC is consolation for Rangel giving up his Chairmanship. If, in fact, he ever gives it up.

But what do we really expect from Congress? More pork, more stupidity at the taxpayers’ expense. Since neither party seems to have an interest in ending this gravy train, maybe we need some sort of citizens’ initiative that will serve notice on these clowns. Term limits, perhaps?

That sounds like it. However, there is nothing on the HOUSE WEB SITE about what is going on.

Republicans were objecting to adding FISCAL SPENDING to this bill (aka the money for NYC). One Republican was referring to the FISCAL SPENDING as EXPANSION OF THE SUBWAYS in NYC.

In the Senate, one can see normally what is going on via the website (www.senate.gov). For the house, the only information I could glean is that they started at 10 am... Nothing else...

They have had a number of roll call votes -- mostly Republicans calling either points of order or other delaying tactics as this bill has not been to a subcommittee for hearings...

Probably. I could try to follow from the debate on CSPAN.

The Republicans kept complaining they had very few facts about this legislation and the legislation was handed to them last night at 9;45 PM. So I don't think there is any information on the Internet yet.

Things are very PARTISAN in this debate in the HOUSE...
