Lots of paper is flying connected with Troopergate today. Now:
> Five Republican lawmakers went to court asking a judge to issue an emergency order blocking the legislature's investigation. Earlier blog post here.
> House Speaker John Harris sent a letter this morning to Sen. Kim Elton, chairman of the Legislative Council, demanding that the body convene within a week "for the purpose of discussing the status of the investigation currently underway by Stephen Branchflower...The political landscape certainly has changed since this investigation was authorized by the Legislative Council on July 28, 2008. What started as a bipartisan and impartial effort is becoming overshadowed by public comments from individuals at boths ends of the political spectrum."
> A group of Fairbanks and North Pole citizens filed a lawsuit against Branchflower today. They claim the investigation is unconstitutional and want a judge to stop the investigation.

Here’s a copy of the Speaker’s letter:

The AK House Speaker is an anti-Palin Republican, but I think he’s beginning to get with the program here and is looking to pull the plug. Will see...
Palin could fire this guy for any reason whatsoever.
It's worth the few minutes to read it. If you have been following this saga, there's really no new information. But, it's a good summary of what has happened up until this point.
Sounds like he’s thinking about ending this “investigation” or maybe he’ll postpone it until AFTER the election.
That would a good compromise.
The plug should have been pulled on this travesty the moment that Democrat clown promised to produce a damaging “October Surprise” before the “investigation” had even commenced.
I agree. Another thing, how far are this fools willing to go with this? At the risk of their own political future? I’m sure the people of Alaska is not happy with them trying to take down their girl.

Maybe somebody should investigate whether they are involved in communications with the 0bama camp. That would blow the cover off the whole thing right there.
More Stupid Party, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory crap. Let the investigation play out and the chips fall. By filing suit, all it does now is give the Left more ammunition to go after Palin.
You gotta love that Alaskan independence streak.
Imagine citizens in many other states filing a lawsuit against their representative for being an partisan ass hat
Citizens of New York state, follow your brethren in Alaska and sue Chuck Schumer mouth shut !!!
I don’t agree. This is a partisan investigation run by an Obama supporter who has already promised an “October Surprise” that would be “damaging”. There’s no there there, but the media will play up the “official report” written by the Obama supporter to no end.
The best outcome is if the legislature kills this itself, rather than the court gambit.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I realize I am never going to win this argument in the public square, so if I'm stuck with it, I'd like to at least try and use it to the advantage of those who want to do good, not just smear someone with invented scandal.
We need to correct anyone we hear using the term "Troopergate" and let them know that the correct term should be "Tasergate". Help get it through peoples thick skulls that this moron had such incredibly bad judgement that he used a taser on a 10 or 11 year old child! Add to that making death threats, drinking while driving (in his patrol car) and a bunch of other stuff, and it should start to become clear to even the thickest among us that this is NOT the kind of person you want carrying a gun and wielding it behind a badge of authority.
(I'll climb down and let someone else have the soap box now.....)
“Non-story, non-”scandal” no matter how many times the AP wants to rewrite the same article on this story.
Palin could fire this guy for any reason whatsoever. “
Exactly.
1. He was at-will
2. Clear evidence they had a budget disagreement that was PUBLIC and she wanted him out from the job
3. Palin has put the concerns about trooper Wooten into the public record and they are valid and her family expressed them correctly
4. Wooten is still on the job.
Palin has been honest, upfront, and there is nothing there.
MEANWHILE THE #1 TAX BILL WRITING DEMOCRAT IN CONGRESS BROKE THE TAX LAW FOR 20 YEARS AND THE MSM IS SILENT!!!! ... so what the heck is the MSM even reporting, other than ‘lets get some dust up that makes it look bad for Palin’? ... The bias is so obvious even Mr magoo can see it.
“Im sure the people of Alaska is not happy with them trying to take down their girl.”
I think you are so very right. Their will be political heads rolling on both sides of the isle in the Alaska legislature.
As another poster has pointed out, this person served at the pleasure of the governor. She can, for any reason, and at anytime, dismiss someone in his position. Why is there even an investigation?
