"...then the Nut Roots are going to take down this site, and take it down hard, for the next two months."

I am afraid I agree completely. The left cannot allow a McCain-Palin win--the Left's long knives are out...the need to refute all lies by the hour is imperative...using FR and your e-mail lists as well. Obama and his ilk have many folks still flummoxed mainly because they refuse to research his past and vet him.

The “pray for my kitty” threads are important. Seriously, those threads help posters who are energetically opposed to each on particular political points, to remember that they’re both human and have some things in common that are important to them and that they agree on. The sense of community that such threads help build, improve the cultural foundations of FR and the overall tone of the discourse here.

= = =

Have tried to warn about that for at least half a year.

I don’t think folks realize the degree of demand.

If you want to win this race, then I suggest you get your arses out to the toss-up states and volunteer. As the saying goes 'run to the sound of the canons because that is where the battle is'. Let these OBAMATARDS blather endlessly on the phones but this battle will be won on the ground LIKE MOST BATTLES....

Do not allow yourselves to be distracted by all the noise on the internet, MSM and the internet....

Here are several solid sites that give a snapshot of the battleground. This is an electoral college race NEVER forget this fact

Please be proactive in protecting Free Republic from left wing attacks. If this means a special FReepathon to buy equipment or pay for colos, then so be it.

Comment:

I am aware of through a close personal contact that the planning for shutting down anti Obama web sites like FRee Republic has been discussed and will be implemented if Obama falls much further behind in their internal polling.

Right now as I write this, new trolls are being recruited to disrupt Conservative web sites.

My very high level source laughingly said that these people mean business and they do have the financial backing to cause havoc with anyone who crosses Senator Obama.

As for those polls people ask us to FReep, well these are being manipulated to Obama’s advantage.

Also be aware that these folks are trying to figure out who is making adverse comments and seeking to identify their true identity.

Just some interesting information from a high level source.

AGREED:

This is no ordinary election. Anyone can see we are moving towards some kind of cold civil war. As the battle escalates, removing the voices of the ‘enemy’ from the public discourse will become an important priority (primarily for the left. Conservatives are not afraid of the nut roots’ blather). If you think that talk radio and Free Republic are forever, think again. The enemy, if he wins, will spare nothing to shut down opposing voices, the Constitution be dammed.

We need to be praying that these Bolsheviks don't take over in January.

These people are stark-raving, bloodthirsty, marxist kooks - if you think your d*mned kitty is of any importance in the greater scheme of things, then you had d*mned better be prepared to be enslaved by the government you deserve, because you're about to get it.

Bill, I have always admired your posts, but I think this one itself is rude.

The problem is real, pervasive and will only get worse.

No one is suggesting the Robinsons are inept, it may be simply that they are doing the best they can with resources they have.
If additional funds are necessary to protect the smooth functioning of the site for the next two months, most of us FR diehards are more than willing to fund the creation of additional backup. There are even helpers lining up to volunteer.

Desperate times, etc....

"Here, here. How about all the "new" people who apparently have signed up years ago who are now posting and come out only during national election time. Honestly, I don't know half these people who are suddenly appearing who have a sign up date of years ago. New people, or casual posters are fine - and welcome - but I too question whether or not we have a whole boatload of sleeper trolls around here."

You might want to be careful and speak a bit more gently about people you don't know. There are many reasons people who have been signed up for years might not have been on for a while. The site could have had, for a time, an over run of rudely arrogant posters that drove them off for a while. People could have experienced illness and/or deaths of loved ones and didn't have the heart to participate for a while. Some could have lost their computer and couldn't afford to replace it for a while. Take your choice of any or all of the above...until you know for sure, you should remember that the strength of FReepers is their community and support of one another.

If you're suggesting that they stick with the relational nonsense, then I'd question your sanity.

There is no known entity in all of computer science which is faster than a flat file structure, especially once it's been cached in RAM [and, better yet, cached at local ISP caching infrastructures throughout the nation].

Relational databases are death to efficiency.

Oh, you and I are in complete agreement on the matter. I do apologize if I seemed annoyed, but it was partially a geek's answer - I run a group of SQL servers that are back-ends for a web presence for a living and this particular demand made at this particular time is a little impractical. It isn't just money, it's re-architecting and concomitant downtime that would make the current 500 series errors seem like a walk in the park.

More to the point this sort of technical design discussion cannot be made in public lest you tip the bad guys off. A nice private note to JimRob, maybe. That's what FReepmail is for. IMHO, of course.
