While Barack Obama tries to call John McCain a “liar” for saying Obama will raise taxes on a wide swath of Americans, Joe Biden tells America that paying higher taxes is … patriotic? The Democratic VP told Good Morning America today that “it’s time to be patriotic” and start allowing Uncle Sam to take even more of your paycheck:

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says that paying higher taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans. …

Biden told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday that, in his words, “it’s time to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”

“Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not
bound to choose that pattern which best pays the treasury. There is not even a patriotic
duty to increase one’s taxes. Over and over again the Courts have said that there is
nothing sinister in
so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it,
rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay
more than the law demands.”

(US Appeals Court Justice the Honourable Learned Hand)

Basically, the Brainless One is saying that giving up your freedom is being patriotic.

The truth is that we are going to wind up paying higher taxes. Bailouts, wars, government programs and debt service without revenues means we are running up the credit card.

In that case, the so called rich, who pay 90% of the taxes already, are superpatriots. So is Exxon Mobil.

The poor would be traitors.

Joe is an absolute idiot. Let him talk. He improves the odds of McCain/Palin winning.

At least he was honest for a change about the way that liberals DEFINE PATRIOTISM!!!

I guess the ultimate version of that patriotism---would be giving 100% of what you earn to the government. I guess that would be what democrats consider 'giving your life for your country'! /s>

Maybe they can make some kind of medal for that kind of patriotism.

The true patriotic thing to do would be to call on everyone to pay higher taxes, except the truly poor.

And, for the public sector unions to give up some of their enormous retirement benefits which WILL drive state and local taxes to astronomical levels if pensions aren’t modernized.

Like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. No-one wants to discuss the REAL ISSUES and how to fix them.

This is the central issue in this campaign. What role does government play in the lives of ordinary people (not citizens because the denotes a required relationship). Obama and Biden view government as the objective. And they view their role at the top of that objective to be their prize, birth right, crown etc.

The founders viewed government as a necessary evil for administrative functions, to raise an army, to regulate inter-state commerce, to allow the nation which was a confederation, to speak abroad with one voice imbued with common and universal interest. Beyond that, the founders believed (with the exception of late-comer and imperialist Hamilton), that goverment that was best was government that was least.

Now, we are engaged in a battle to determine who has the right to divide our family’s purse. Obama and Biden believe they should be able to take every dollar we make and decide where it goes. Essentially, Barack Obama, who never had anything, received everything on affirmative action handout will have routed the system and then control 300 million take home pay checks. Why should we let this happen? Will those who actually work hard and create value benefit?

The answer is no. Obama says things like, “Relax, you can afford it.” and “It’s neighborly.”. Folks, we are on the verge of the largest stick up in world history. As if giving all of our money to the Arabs, Foreign Policy Welfare and foreign wars weren’t enough for the past 30 years, now they are coming to essentially turn us all into latter day sharecroppers on Obama’s plantation. His goal? To bring the welfare queens into the big house and put us in the share cropper shacks.

I hope you like social revolutions matey, ‘cause yer in one.

...except the truly poor.

There are no "truly poor" in America. Anyone who claims otherwise has either never been to a third-world country, or they are deceiving you.

The great majority of Americans wouldn't even know what "truly poor" means.

Unfortunately this sounds not that much different than the Maverick sneering about greed and those making a profit instead of serving for patriotism .

A few questions for Joe...

1)This implies (since the party platform is that taxes on the wealthy are too low) that if you are wealthy and did not write an amount in the “would you like to pay more taxes” box that you are unpatriotic. Can we have a look at your and BHO’s recent tax returns again?

2) Knowing the answer to 1), did you just question the patriotism of BHO, yourself and John McCain?... I thought you guys said that was out of bounds???

3) Shouldn’t we all strive to be patriotic? Isn’t this a call for higher taxes for all? Or is this just veiled propaganda for wealth redistribution? Don’t answer that... rhetorical question.

4) Hmmm... if it is increased federal revenue that is the lofty goal being pursued here, is it not unpatriotic to be wealthy and on the federal payroll at the same time? Do I have your and BHO’s pledge to forgo your federal salary whether elected or not (assuming you will still be senators... ad still be wealthy)?

What a dolt.
