Theres no denying Barack Obamas gifts, at least when it comes to a classic Democratic constituency teetering away from him Americas Jews, who, as I noted yesterday, are showing signs of giving John McCain the largest share of their vote since Ronald Reagan in 1980. In a brilliant effort to shore up his support and stanch the bleeding, Obama held a conference call this morning with 900 rabbis to wish them a Happy New Year. The High Holy Days of the Jewish faith begin on the evening of the 29th of September with Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the new year, and end 10 days later with Yom Kippur. These are the only days in the year in which one can expect American Jews to attempt, at least, to attend synagogue and listen to a sermon and in an election year, Obama was offering these rabbis plenty of grist for their mills in convincing their parishioners to vote for him, at least implicitly.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Obama has almost all avenues covered:
He has the homosexual vote: rumors he is a homosexual.
White vote: he is half-white.
Black vote: he is half-black
Sports vote: he plays basketball
Angry vote: he is angry
Male vote: he is married to his wife.
“Happy new year.”
Obama is a complete theological idiot.
Maybe “easy fast” or the like, but “Happy New Year?#?@
Obama might want to look up what the -— real -— new year is about before he says that again.
You forgot the Idiot Vote.
“You forgot the Idiot Vote”
Ron Paul and Barr have that vote rapped up.
“Shanah Tovah” = “Have a Good Year”
I don’t have a problem with folks wishing me a “Happy New Year.”
L’shanah tovah tikatevi v’taihatemi”
“May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.”
Little different concept that “Happy new year” -— future tense not that the PRESENT occassion is happy, but a wish (prayer, really) that the FUTURE year be good.
I don’t get offended, mind you. But talking to Rabbis? Come on.
We can't expect Obama to know that as fluently as he knows the Shahada.
They have a funny way of showing it. Some Jewish Leadership folk "disinvited" Sarah Palin from a rally against Iran at Baracks say so.
