Posted on 09/18/2008 5:44:59 PM PDT by RatsDawg
The campaign puts out a statement from former Fannie Mae chief Franklin Raines, disowning ties to Obama, after a McCain ad attacked him for the ties.
The Washington Post reported -- with the kind of blind sourcing that suggests the source was Raines -- that Raines had "taken calls from Barack Obama's presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters."
Raines said in the statement through the campaign, "I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters."
Obama spokesman Bill Burton added an attack:
This is another flat-out lie from a dishonorable campaign that is increasingly incapable of telling the truth. Frank Raines has never advised Senator Obama about anything -- ever. And by the way, someone whose campaign manager and top advisor worked and lobbied for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac shouldn't be throwing stones from his seven glass houses.
UPDATE: McCain spokesman Brian Rogers notes that Obama didn't contradict the claim when it first appeared in the Post.

You can tell that it hurts by how hard they are yelling.
Under the bus!!!!
Tomorrow - tell ‘em how much Raines contributed to Obama ...
A blatant, bald-faced lie by Barack Obama. Will the media call him out on it? Of course not. He has a (D) next to his name.
The louder they scream, the closer the hit on the mark.
Obama lying? Does it rain in the rain forest?
Of course Obama never took advice from Raines. Never talked to Bill Ayers or listened to a Rev Wright sermon either.
Anyone else smell something really FOUL here?
The Obama camp is full-out on dirty campaigning now.
I have no idea, but let’s be clear on this, there is no comparison between Raines position as chief of Fannie Mae and a lobbyist or advisor. Raines walked away with millions.
We need the document links now! Hannity has been on this for weeks and he never says boo without a firm paper trail on the desk before him.
I sniff Obamanic lies of gargantuan proportion, but the claim needs to be backed with the facts.
Wright, Ayers, Grandma, Raines...all under the bus.
Absolutely!! When you throw a rock into a pack of dogs, the one that yelps is the one that got hit!!
Oh, yeah, that would be the money. Of course, Obama paid no attention to that man behind the money curtain. He’s too much the community organizer and has no time for such riffraff.
It’s getting very crowded under the bus. Obama should borrow more buses from Nagen. The buses are probably still in the parking lot before and after Katrina.
There is NO denying all of these guys including Obama are as guilty as hell and they know it.
Team McCain scores a direct hit on obama!
It is my contention that actions of individuals at Fannie Mae and Freddi Mac were criminal-If Bush had any balls he’d announce that the justice dept is launching an investigation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Eventhough he’s only in office 3 more months the DoJ should put a pitbull on this investigation of criminal activity at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac-as the investigation progress over that three month period DoJ should “leak” details of the investigation.
Obama lies and seems to get away with it. All that matters is enough people hear it and believe it on Nov. 4 to not promote Obama to the highest office.
The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.
It reminds me of “I am not a crook...”
More background from the corner:
Check out Raines wikipedia entry today....suddenly Raines has been removed from any association with Obama....wow. Any guesses on the IP address involved in doing that today?
Thanks for posting. One big happy dysfunctional “family”.
‘Rat Crime Syndicate Culture of Corruption...players/enabers/co-conspirators BUMP!
Just because BHO says it doesn’t make it so. I have to laugh at all the libs on politico.com who believe his every word (well, I guess he is the Messiah). The message board was great entertainment!
I guess that right wing source doesn't count. /s
Thats how I found this article!
I went there to look up info on Raines, and found this article!
We need a screen shot of the old Wiki entry! If anyone can even do that!
McCain most certainly bring this up at the DEBATES.
I can’t link it because I am on my BlackBerry but there is a July 16 Washington Post article clearly stating that the Obama campaign solicited advice from Raines.
Sweet link! Thanks
Ahhh, so it’s Bush’s fault. How original.
SOMEBODY IS LYING HERE!!
WASHINGTON POST, July 16 2008:
“ In the four years since he stepped down as Fannie Mae’s chief executive under the shadow of a $6.3 billion accounting scandal, Franklin D. Raines has been quietly constructing a new life for himself.
He has shaved eight points off his golf handicap, taken a corner office in Steve Case’s D.C. conglomeration of finance, entertainment and health-care companies and more recently, taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.”
(Thank the morons at KOS for the link to this article!!)
How can they escape this. The proof is there in plain site.
Swiftboated again. The truth will hurt.
There will not be any investigation of Fannie Mae. PERIOD.
1) Too many Democrats
2) Too many BLACK Democrats
That’s a DOUBLE Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Media Card!
B.S. he never got "advice" from Raines. This simply doesn't pass the smell test.
“The Obama camp is full-out on dirty campaigning now.”
The nutroots has been BEGGING for a Dirty campaign to get even with those “EVIL, VILE, BASTARDLY REPUBLICANS”.
And the Obama Camp must be seeing some really horrible internals to have jettisoned the “HOPE!” mantra this early...
This article is the smoking gun. Thanks
It sees like every time obama has the slightest chance he flat out calls Sen. McCain a liar. It really is making him sound like the boy who cried wolf.
