I watched TV earlier, getting to be more of a rarity every day for me. This actress (?) was on a late night talk show. She said to the host "I just came back from Costa Rica. You know, they have no Army. How cool is that? (and what sounded like) At least they won't follow the bullying tactics of this country." What the hell is that?!?! Who is this twit? "How cool is that?"

I believe she was the mother in “Spy Kids” with Antonio Banderas. She also played Wayne’s girlfriend in an episode of “The Wonder Years”. I’m sure she’s done more than that, but that’s what I remember her for.

Having said that, her comment has to rank right up there as one of the all time championship stupids.
I think Costa Rica is pretty safe without an army as long as the rest of the world is unable to locate it on a globe or map. Besides, why would anyone in their right mind want to take over Costa Rica anyway? I can’t remember any country ever attacking another country to gain control of their beaches. How cool is that?

She was the main star of a series called “Threshold” which was very underappreciated. Gorgeous. Too bad she’s drunk the koolaid.
A few years ago she starred in the short-lived ‘Karen Sisco’ TV show, around the turn of the century she was featured on ‘Chicago Hope’.
They have no army, and guess what phone would ring if Costa Rica were invaded at 3 am.

Coasta Rica is beautiful. I love the country and ignore this twit. I never heard of her. If Coasta Rica ever needs our help, they will certainly have a different attitude than this women.
This is SOP for a Hollywood newcomer, dim star or A-list wanna-be...one feels a sense of ‘belonging’ to moviedom’s elite if they bashed America.
That's right, they have no army, but they do have a small "National Guard." Good luck invading it, lots of narrow roads across mountains. It'd be like taking Switzerland.
There's a good deal of property crime. If you have a middle-class house, it's built like a fort, iron bars everywhere. Also, lots of Nicaraguans coming across the border to do the jobs Costa Ricans don't want to do and from what I hear they add to the crime problem a lot and put pressure on the social services.
Their #1 export it microchips (Intel plant, I believe) and #2 is coffee.
Decent hospitals. Medical tourism is a big business there for those who want a procedure and a recuperative vacation. I think they get a lot of European traffic for those who want better care than the socialized hospitals provide.
They do seem to have a decent school system, one of the best in any Latin country.
Depending on which expat you talk to, the CR government is either hopelessly corrupt or better than the rest of Latin America. I expect it's kinda both.

The reason Costa Rica doesn’t have an army is because the United States has been protecting them for all of these years. They sat between Nicaragua and Panama—two dictatorships for most of the 80s/90s. You really think they’d have made it otherwise?
They used to call Costa Rica “the Switzerland of the Americas” and when you ask why, they say because they have no standing army. Obviously USA protected/s them.
As to Carla - she is gorgeous. Very mesmerizing eyes, etc. But she is a basic valley girl. Does not mean anything. Harmless. She’d be shocked to learn that steaks come from animals.

Honestly? It was a good afternoon movie. Amusing...good acting. Even Clooney didn’t drive me to illness (too much!).
At least Hollywood has some exceptions to the “most lib women are butt ugly” rule.
