The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
With Washington swamped by the crisis on Wall Street, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss and his Democratic partner have pulled the plug on their bipartisan Gang of Ten energy bill until after the November elections.
Chambliss phoned this evening with the news.
But before the Senate adjourns next week, the Georgia senator said a revised version of the bill will be unveiled one that will feature expanded territory for offshore oil drilling.
Chambliss, a Republican up for re-election, had formed an alliance with Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) this summer. Support had grown from the original 10 senators to 20.
When you look at the atmosphere thats in Washington right now all of a sudden, the focus is on the financial side rather than energy. Kent and my thought is that this issue is such a critical issue, that it deserves a lot of time, a lot of thought, a lot of debate, Chambliss said.
A House energy bill passed this week would go nowhere in the Senate, Chambliss predicted.

All they have to do is let the current moratorium expire on October 1.
That House energy bill that passed was nothing but Pelosi’s ruse to try to protect Democrat House seats.
We need to turn up the pressure even more on them. Drill here! Drill now! Pay less!!
Fire the Democrats in November!!
Yes we do need to turn up the pressure. If the GOP succeeds in letting the offshore drilling ban expire then they will reap a huge benefit. If they capitulate they will be cowering from history. I’m just glad the stupid gang of 10 is gone for now. I’m so tired of hearing about Gangs. All I want to hear is Drill.

Boehner’s bill would certainly help the economy. I hope the Repubs push that one.
Taxme Shameless had better get the message loud and clear. He is up for re-election and has ticked a bunch of people off with his position in the gang of losers.
No more Washington Gangs.
What a dufus! No credit should be given to anyone that works with a lying Rat. They will never change their ways, they'll just think of a better con job.
I will bet taxme shambles wont show his face here in Gwinette county. This guy needs to be run out of office.I am still calling his office to tell them he is still a sellout.
I have done that before and the ‘dingbats’ that answer the phone read from a script and do not have a clue of what they are saying.
Try it some time, it is kind of fun.
Let them give their canned response and then ask a very basic question about one of the ‘facts’ that they spew and then they get flustered and say that they will pass on your comments.
I just wear them out.Ask to speak to their boss and then wear his backside out. They just gotta know how bad they stepped in it this time.I live in Hoschton.I noticed your tagline.Home?
We need a bill. We can not be content with just letting the OCS ban expire! Although that would be a start. We need a bill that not only allows drilling anywhere (OCS and On Shore) but also removes the environmentalist and their lobbyists and their lawyers from the equation. Just letting the current ban expire does nothing to prevent such groups from suing every oil lease awarded. Such cases often remain tied in court for years and thus preventing drilling. Just ask Chevron about their Destin Dome lease in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
According to research presented by Rep. John Shadegg (R-Az), the Bush Administration issued 487 leases last February in the Chukchi Sea -- environmental lawyers challenged every one.
Oh and those were challenges just to the issuance of the leases - when the oil companies try do do actual exploration there will be more litigation - and when they actually want to drill for production - guess what?
Down the road from you - Dacula
I live south of Hamilton Mill Rd on 124
Did you get involved with the Commissioner’s race this summer?
What a relief! All our calls and emails worked.
I just had to comment when I saw you mention Hoschton. One of my son’s best buddies moved there last year, and though they’re only pre-teens, they keep up their friendship over the phone.
It sounds like a great place to live, though my son feels sorry for his friend because it doesn’t snow in Hoschton. Oh, to be eleven again. I’ll remind him of his comment when we get a classic Minnesota blizzard and I hand him the shovel. :)
We have had some dusting(snow on the ground for a couple of days)but nothing like you guys get up there.Y’all are just a tougher breed of cat.My bones cant take the cold or the taxes.LOL
Nothing will prevent lawsuits by green zealots seeking to forestall drilling indefinitely.
I agree with you. But eventually, they will run out of money. (At least that is how I see it.)
I recall the Russ Limbaugh show where the rumor was surfacing that McCain had “bought in” to the Gang of Ten’s plan. Rush went nuts, saying no bill was preferable. Keep the issue for the election etc. Then Saxby C. called in to his show and tried to explain how Rush had it all wrong. Rush gave him due deference, BUT told him he was wrong and better not do it. G-d save Rush, and America!
I remember it well, Taxme Shameless made a fool of himself again. It was embarrassing having him be one of my Senators.
Why do the women in the Republican party have more between their legs than the men? Very few have a spine.
Just because we have momentum does not give them the comfort in thinking we have forgotten why they lost and will continue to lose, unless they change their ways.
That was sweet.Shambliss $h!t in his mess kit on that one annnnnnnnnd knew it.Just goes to show that the polys monitor Rush very closely.Rush was right of course and shameliss looked small.
So I guess Washington Pols can’t multitask. Sen Chambliss, energy independence is just as important as fixing the financial market skullduggery. In fact, it will have a far longer term effect than the Wall Street mess if it is not fixed now. If the electorate had half a brain all sitting pols—at every governmental level—would be voted out of office.
You are right. The expiration of the ban does not remove uncertainty. Even if the ban expires now, there will be a future bill. The industry will not act until a future bill is enacted. If it was unlikely that a future bill would be enacted, the industry would make steps to act.
Regardless of any future bill, the left will attempt to stop energy exploration. The only thing that can stop the left is legislation to curtail their rights to bring third party lawsuits. The environmental left is the fifth branch of government. The ability to bring third party lawsuits is almost an absolute power to obstruct. Unfortunately, I see no prospects that third party lawsuits will be curtailed in future legislation.
The forces against energy exploration and development are very strong. The environmental left has much more power than the cover provided by the rats. If the rats cave on energy exploration legislation, the green will try everything to stop development.

Is that idiot still calling himself a Republican?
Welcome the fight. See what fighting has earned us? Standing up may be hard but the environmentalists have never really had a majority on energy issues. They are bullies and BIG GREEN is on its knees right now partially because of the wondrous work of Al Gore overplaying his hand.
He’s just trying to calm down “his” base before the election.
I will NOT be voting for this spineless jerk.
Of course, then they can really screw us.

Contact your Congress critters to let them that you know the best oil is located in the first 50-mile range, shoreline to 50-mile point.
U. S. House of Representatives
And un-elect all the dimocrats who will not support drilling EVERYWHERE!
On Augusta talk radio, trying to stem the bleeding, Shameless said that everywhere he went, Georgians were slapping him on the back and congratulating him for working across the aisle to get things done. This story proves that was a transparent lie. I know I blew the ear off of one of his local staffers as well as Isaakson’s.
What is in the water in D.C. that has our party believing the global warming hoax? BYW it was the WSJ, not Rush, who first slammed the gang.
TN Senator Bob Corker is one of the original Gang-of-10
And also one of the richest in congress...
and also an AMNESTY supporter...
He hired illegal aliens in his businesses knowingly...
and he doesnt understand about paying today’s gas prices when you are just a working American...
BTW one of Corker’s staff visited our city last week...
She said Corker is AGAINST drilling in ANWR...
The majority of the people heard about this from Rush.Kudos to both WSJ and to RUSH for hammering his sorry ass on this issue.I still wont vote for this slipknot of a senator.
Will you just skip that race or vote for Jim Martin? I’ve seen Jim’s views and he is not looking like a blue dog democrat so I plan to skip that race. I have removed myself from Taxby’s email list.
We need to find out when this sellout is at his Georgia office and then protest, protest, protest. We can do it in shifts so us conservatives can still work to pay the taxes.Re-elect nobody especially this arrogant jerk.
Is there a losertarian in the race?
