As election day comes ever nearer, Democrats and open-government advocates are pressing for the GOP vice presidential candidate to release her tax filings, a campaign tradition that extends at least to the post-Watergate era.

Instead, Palin has to date declined to share the documents, becoming part of an ever-more-select historical group of candidates who waited until this late in a campaign year to release their tax filings.

Since 1976, every major-party presidential and vice-presidential candidate has provided that information to the public, according to an analysis by ABC News. Until Palin, only three hopefuls have held onto their tax returns this late:

This is a smoke screen designed exactly to misdirect us from pressing for the missing "Obama papers", and other "prominent" liberals background material.

The quest of the MSM is to have something in the news everyday that - to the casual and uneducated ear - seems like an impropriety.

Please note that they are not making any specific implications toward the Governor, only acting like her not serving them up on a silver platter is some sort of crime.

It occurs to most of us that the Governor is a pretty smart cookie - surrounded by smart advisors. Are the media trying to make us believe that she somehow didn't know that she was going to have to reveal all this information, and would be prepared for it?

If I were her, I'd withhold and even be a bit coy about revealing all of this until the media has worked itself up into a frothing frenzy, and then hand them over. Rope-a-dope time.

But the media knows she has them, and they are ok...probably a lot better than Biden's 1% to charity, etc.

The media should know that obsession is defined as doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

If you look at the Obama's tax returns, note that their charitable contributions jumped starting in 2005, while in previous years they ranged from 0.5% to 1.4% of adjusted gross income. Obama and Biden are from the same niggardly mold. Of my God! Am I a racist for using that word, niggardly?

The only one I would quibble about is the U. of Chicago scholarly writings. Lecturers are normally there to only teach and not perform research and analysis. However, a good lecturer or adjunct professor will be an expert in his or her field and can be invaluable to a university. Imagine taking an organizational behavior course from Jack Welsch or learning IT structure from someone at Sun or Microsoft, etc.

Sooo, there should be some cases or even friend of the court briefs from his time as a community organizer that would show the type of work he did (if indeed that is part of the job of a lawyer trying to help the poor).

McCain and Palin do need to demand the right to record their own 'protection' footage of any interviews they give and use it in any manner they see fit. Provided they do that, giving interviews to the enemy is an essential part of the campaign because those are the only interviews a lot of swing voters are going to see.
