The “laaahd” will flow as Michelle Obama joins genteel food maven Paula Deen on an episode of “Paula’s Party,” Sept. 20 on the Food Network.

On the show, “Grease is the Word,” the wife of the Democratic presidential candidate meets up with Deen “on the campaign trail” to make the TV chef’s famous fried shrimp and Creole french fries.

According to the network’s press release: “Michelle gives Paula a taste of her family life on the road to the White House and shares fun facts, including the first meal she made for Barack, what kinds of local foods the family seeks out on the road and that Barack makes a mean chili!”

Paula should invite Barack to appear with Michelle, they could fix this mean chili and serve it to members of the audience for a taste test. Then invite John and Cindy to do the same with some ribs. It could be interesting.

Deen has also invited Republican John McCain’s wife, Cindy, and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to spend equal time in her kitchen.

I hope they accept. Let Sarah whip up a little bit of the best Alaska has to offer and then Cindy can take Paula out drifting in her Vette. I'd watch that show!

if she doesn’t get a Wild Game Segment with Sarah she’d be nuts, much more interesting than Michelle tossing Arugula.

Politics and food do not go well together.

I remember a cartoon with two people dressed as Eskimos. One was holging a platter and saying “I hope you like it! It’s the new fat-free blubber!”

Gee Michelle is sure able to make time for fluff SOUTH voters...but NO time to visit the 9/11 memorial. Oh yeah that’s right she was busy caring for her kids that day....just NOT the day that she is on Paul Deens cooking show.

You are right. The food network should not have either Democrat or Republican candidates, or their spouses, or former presidents as guests. There are certainly enough other interesting people out there to feature. I am so sad to see this happening - this was one network where I thought I could actually just enjoy and learn something worthwhile, without having to sift through what is true and what is not.

As to Michelle being featured on Deen's show...gee, I thought the Obama's only ate arugula! Paula, honey child, quit with the political mixins and just whip up something we can swallow without choking.

She has not been allowed to vent her considerable spleen. But the rodeo isn’t over yet...

I agree with you — I’m a Paula-watcher and turned to her for comfort after 9/11, like so many Americans did. She cooks dishes that my grandma made for Sunday dinner when I was growing up.

I really hope Paula invites Cindy or Sarah. In Sarah’s case it would be fascinating if she brought some Alaskan specialties and see them incorporate her ingredients into Paula’s dishes.

Moose lard? Does that work?

I’m through watching Paula Deen. I don’t watch these so-called celebrities to get political propaganda. Paula’s history just like all the brain-washing celebrities. If I can find a contact email address for Food Network, I will let them know I’m finished with Paula Deen.

I turned to my own family on 9-11 for comfort.

I cook the foods I learned from my MOTHER...not Paula.

The food shows are fun and nice but let’s face it...theya re NOT reality.

Rachel makes 30 minutes meals.

Who answers the phone?
Who stops to put a bandaid on the child who fell?
Who cleans up an egg that dropped on the floor?

The Food Network kitchen staff does all of that. That 30 minute meal thing is OK if they showed me a real woman/mother fixing it in her own home and kitchen and having to do all the prep work herself and still be there to watch the kids etc.

Also Semi Homemade. She’s beautiful true. However, how many times do we decorate our kitchens and wear the same color clothing as we prepare meals for our families...semi homemade or from scratch.

Paula pours it on pretty thick and talks about all the meals and the rest of it. I know she pulled herself by the bootstraps and raised two nice sons and she is to be commended for that. However, the diamonds on her fingers sort of take away from all of that when she is cooking. As Giada said once in judging one of the next food network stars who was glitzed up...”I like a clean look when cooking.”

I think these “stars” start out being like you and me and yada, yada, yada then when they get “big” out comes their political leanings....that’s when I call it quits. I like them for what they do on TV but don’t use your show to ram your leanings down my throat.

We’ve actually quit watching it all. Too much of a waste of time so we exercised our right which everyone should do who doesn’t like something.... Turn it off. :)

Have a happy week everyone and Happy eating. :)

I turned to her RECIPIES after 9/11..my bad for wording it the wrong way. Her ingredients never called for an itty bitty $15 jar of saffron I’d use once, or imported fruit my local Meijer would never carry. My mother didn’t like to cook (mostly because of my father’s love of overcooked hamburger and shoe-leather steak) so I had to learn on my own.

Still, I hope Paula plays fair and invites Cindy and/or Sarah. I’m not a fan of her “Party” show but I’ll still watch “Home Cooking.”

That Michelle Obama actually gets her hands dirty in the kitchen takes a stretch of imagination. Who do you think is more likely to have made her kids mac & cheese or hamburger hot dish..Michelle or Sarah Palin?
