Obama Campaign Gives Up on North Dakota
Sunday, September 21, 2008 | Kristinn

The presidential campaign of Democrat Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois has shrunk its original 18 battleground states strategy to 16 today with word that it is pulling staff from the 11 campaign offices in North Dakota and sending them to other states.

Just this week, Obama campaign manager released a map of Obama's battleground states that included North Dakota's 3 electoral college votes as still being contested by the campaign.

However, a recent poll by the American Research Group showed Obama's Republican rival Sen. John McCain of Arizona leading 52 to 43 percent. A recent Rasmussen poll has the race in North Dakota 55 to 41 in favor of McCain.

The Associated Press quoted Obama spokewoman Amy Brundage confirming the abandonment of North Dakota by Obama.

The other battleground state Obama gave up on was Alaska after McCain chose that state's popular governor, Sarah Palin, as his running mate.

I never could understand North Dakota being part of any Battleground strategy by the Dems. But then the Obama campaign opened two offices in Oklahoma where he is behind by 41 points so what do I know? :)

Obama did very well in North Dakota in the Democratic Primary.

He should have spent more time and money in N.D. /sarc

He's in Charlotte today:

SNIP

The nominee said infrastructure would be an important tenant of his policy in The White House. He said investment in new roads, more broadband in rural areas, and an new electricity grid would be vital to the country's economic future.

"If we can rebuild Baghdad, we can rebuild Charlotte, we can rebuild North Carolina," he told the crowd.

He briefly mentioned making teacher salaries more competitive and making college more affordable.

Early in the speech, Obama saluted his "body man", Reggie Love. Love is a Charlotte native, and Providence Day School graduate, who has been the candidate's right-hand man during the campaign.

"This young man loves Charlotte, all he talks about is Charlotte," Obama said.

By the end, Obama encouraged the crowd to become active in the campaign and encourage their friends and neighbors to do the same.

"Charlotte at this defining moment we finally have the chance to say enough is enough," he said.

LOL!!! I am all for him spending more in ND where he had zero chance.

Some people forget that the American Indian tribes have had a friend with Senator McCain while zero with Obama. Any states will a large tribal population I would think would be slamdunks for the McCain/Palin campaign.

I grew up in Charlotte. I can believe Obama would stop there. Being the largest city, many have lost touch with their middle class roots. The city is mostly haves- and have-nots. The middle class was basically squeezed out of the nice neighborhoods, and fled when the remainder went downhill.

When I graduated from NCSU in 1992, I already knew I wasn’t going back.

Providence Day School is a private school. I graduated from East Mecklenburg HS.

Plus Palin would bring a small tribe of Native Americans to the Vice Presidents house, six when Track is visiting.

1 down. 56 to go.

Eventually we can all hope that he will be down to just seven states.

Among those states are the State of Confusion, the State of Denial, the State of Depression, the State of Anger, the State of Audacity, the State of Hopelessness, and the State of Shock.

I don’t see how they ever thought they could win in either North Dakota or South Dakota. Obama just doesn’t fit with those demographics.

The Obama campaign is a make work program. All it does is make work for do nothing leeches. That's why he has to raise so much money but he's too stupid to know it.
