McCain Likes Democrat Andrew Cuomo for SEC Chief Monday, September 22, 2008 By Susan Jones, Senior Editor
(CNSNews.com) - If he's elected president, Republican Sen. John McCain says he would want Democrat Andrew Cuomo to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission.
McCain, who has called for Republican SEC chief Chris Cox to resign, made the comment on the CBS program "60 Minutes" Sunday night.
"I'm curious," CBS Correspondent Scott Pelley told McCain. "If you want to fire Chris Cox, the chairman of the SEC, who would you replace him with?"
McCain responded: "This may sound a little unusual, but I've admired Andrew Cuomo. I think he is somebody who could restore some credibility, lend some bipartisanship to this effort.
Pelley: He's a Democrat.

Cuomo has managed to rehabilitate his image - but his past with HUD cannot be erased, and considering the nature of the present crisis this would be a really really dumb mistake.
Basically he wants the fox in charge of the henhouse.
Why not Baines or Gorelick?!
Possibly.....WTF??????
Oh, please. Somebody tell McCain what time it is.
What the where my thoughts exactly.
Not cool John. A leftist New York democrat who will use it on his resume when he runs for something? Wise the F up John.

Forget he's Democrat ... Senator, are you really unaware of what he was doing as HUD Secretary??
I hate this bipartisan, reach across the aisle crap! John McCain is always willing to throw a Republican under the bus.
Maybe he’s doing it to get him out of the NY Atty General spot. I think as AG he would be in more of a position to cover up a Wall Street investigation.
The word 'bipartisan' means that some larger-than-usual deception is being carried out. - George Carlin

Get ready for an Obama White House if this fool keeps it up. He finally got his base back with Palin and could easily hang this whole financial crises on the Dems with Cuomos idiocy in the 90’s. This kind of talk makes me want to take my “McCain/Palin” sign out of my yard.
I haven’t changed my thinking about McCain, and this silliness is why. I’m voting for Sarah Palin, even if it means going through McCain to do it.
“Basically he wants the fox in charge of the henhouse.”P>McCain is STILL off his rocker. The USA is SO screwed.
“Maybe hes doing it to get him out of the NY Atty General spot. I think as AG he would be in more of a position to cover up a Wall Street investigation”.
...that’s a possiblity but it’s piss poor timing with 6 weeks until the election.
Why are we all supporting this man, McCain, again?
Cuomo was one of the architects of the current financial crisis. While in charge of HUD he spent his time funding bogus studies to “prove” redlining. This in turn was used as the lever to force the new lending rules into the 1999 banking bill which Clinton signed into law. That bill included a requirement that banks make loans to “historically underserved communities”. And of course it allowed the sub-prime loans created to be collateralized for the first time.
Another Cuomo greatest hit, as head of HUD, was suing gun manufacterers based on the fact that his tennants (the gang bangers who live in the FedGov housing projects that HUD runs) get shot a lot.
Among the results of this bogus lawsuit was the agreement by Smith & Wesson to put little locks into all their revolvers.
If there is a more useless, hateful, far-left idiot than Andrew Cuomo in national politics you’d pretty much have to go to the Congress to find them. (Conyers, Barney Frank, et.al) The fact that his entire career is due to nepotism is a nice touch too.
This is proof we have no GOOD candidate in this fight. I’ll vote for Palin, but understand that McCain is an appalling candidate for the Republican party...I’m under no illusion that McCain is either a conservative, or even a reasonably bright adult.
And yet, on his bad days, he’s still a lot better than Obama.
We are so screwed.
Have you considered putting a red “X” thru the McCain part of your sign?
Has McCain lost his mind? Credibility? Bipartisanship? Prestige & respect as Secretary of HUD?
Someone wake up McCain before he loses his base. This is beyond belief!
He can make Rangel Sec. of Treasury while he’s at it.
(1) Friends close, enemies closer.
(2) By example -- FDR appoints Joe Kennedy, others to positions of trust. A thief to guard thieves.
(3) Ruin Cuomo and associates by putting him in the spotlight. Not quite "Damn by faint praise", more like taking the target off his back and putting it on Cuomo.
John. You're not helping the not senile case.
No friend of conservatives...
It would take a real extreme leftist opponent for a conservative to even remotely consider pushing the button for McCain (a problem that Palin can't counter).
Oh...wait a minute.
It’s politics at work. Make some Bi-partisan moves 4 or 5 weeks before the election. McCain does not have to sway your opinion but he does have to sway some Democrats to vote for him.
McCain has attacked Obama about never crossing the aisle and working in a Bi-Partsan manner. Cuomo name was thrown out there to attract some NEW YORK VOTES! The name Cuomo is popular in New York and McCain new that it was a shot to get some Anti-Obama New Yorkers fired up to cross the line and vote for him.
Nothing here other then a good political move by McCain.
BINGO.
We need to find out who is putting this garbage in McCain’s head and why? Do they want him to lose the election? Given McCain’s history of sticking his finger in our eyes, it might be his ‘big idea’....but he has to be getting advice on this matter from someone in his camp at this point. WHO?
He does not have to make good on the appointment if he is elected. This is purely for New York State votes. He will never appoint the Rat!
I believe you are correct. His entire theme is that he and Palin are going to Washington as "Mavericks". He's got to show that Obama is a liberal partisan who won't be able to bring change.
“he’s not a Marxist. “
Prove it.
Somebody needs to tell him to SHUT - UP. He can still very much loose this thing. He needs to smile at the cameras and talk about his accomplishments which will further agitate the high holy one.
Yep, sure...
Like McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy and the gang of 14.
Just political moves.
No sale.
If McCain had done any research, he would have realized Cuomo’s involvement with the Fanny and Freddie fiasco and would have stayed far away from him. Now all it’s going to do is get the MSM to come out with it, and destroy Cuomo even with the lefties. So any gains McCain could have made would be nullified.
Tuesday, December 6 (evening) -- BIRTHDAY BASH for CANDIDATE ANDREW M. CUOMO
The STONEWALL Veterans' Association was thoughtfully and generously invited to be represented at this fun-filled, pre-holiday event celebrating former H.U.D. Secretary Andrew Cuomo's 48th birthday and, of course, his imminent New York statewide campaign for Attorney General. Among the many confirmed luminaries are: former N.Y.S. Governor Mario Cuomo (who knows the S.V.A. for nearly three decades), former N.Y.S. First Lady Matilda Cuomo, sister Maria Cuomo-Cole, brother and ABC-TV entertainment reporter Chris Cuomo, many former Clinton Administration staffers such as Secretary of Defense Madeleine Albright, former Suffolk County Executive Patrick Halpern, N.Y.S. Senators such as Carl Andrews, N.Y.S. Assemblymembers such as Keith Wright, N.Y.S. Mayors such as Byron Brown (Buffalo), N.Y.S. Commissioners such as Evan Davis, N.Y.C. Councilmembers such as David Weprin, Councilmembers-Elect such as Melissa Viverito and many other public officials. Labor leaders include Dennis Rivera and Jennifer Cunningham. Business leaders include Kenneth Cole and Dan Kloris. Community leaders include Ken Sunshine and Yasmin Cornelius. Also look for Bella Abzug's old Press Secretary Harold Holzer! GLBT political groups with tables include the Stonewall Democratic Club ("SDC", no relation to the S.V.A.). Entertainment stars the legendary Tony Bennett with confirmed songs such as "The Best Is Yet To Come", "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" and "Fly Me To The Moon". Attending on behalf of the S.V.A. is President Williamson Henderson and assistant Andre Christie. The S.V.A.'s coordinator is Secretary Dianne Yodice (as also in I-talian and ga-ga over Tony). The venue is the beautiful and huge Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18 Street off Avenue of the Americas in Chelsea, New York. Social hour starts @ 6:30 p.m.; sit-down dinner and speeches @ 7:30 p.m.; desserts @ 9 p.m. For the S.V.A., this event is like a reunion with a lot of longtime friends and supporters. Special thanks to Mr. Joe, Lady Ashley and Miss Andrea!
Besides, wasn’t having Lieberman at the Republican convention enough?
The reactions to this announcement by the McCainiacs is pretty funny. I think the Conservative movement has lost its mind. Populism rears its ugly head.
Wasilla, Alaska was named 2003 Honorary Duct Tape Capital of the World. Sarah Palin should apply some to McCain’s mouth before he destroys his campaign!
"Read my lips..."
"Read my lips..."
Isn’t Cuomo the pantload who went on a city-by-city Santa Claus tour at the end of Clinton’s run, passing out “homeless” money by the hundreds of $million$? McCain’s handlers better grab their candidate and slap him awake.
Our choices in this election are between a liar and an idiot and that just on the GOP side.
