The 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees list was just released this morning and the nominees are:
Metallica Jeff Beck The Stooges Run DMC War Bobby Womack Wanda Jackson Little Anthony and The Imperials
Skipped over again:
Rush Boston Kiss Journey Yes Chicago Genesis Phil Collins The Moody Blues Kansas Alice Cooper Deep Purple Abba Neil Diamond Styx Thin Lizzy Heart Hall and Oates Cheap Trick
ETC....ETC...
Run DMC? Seriously?
I could say this about a lot of bands, but how does a band with the track record of Chicago not get nominated?
Needs to be changed to the Pop Hall of Fame. Even Rock bands with significantly more success are being passed over for less successful poptart acts.
Run DMC? I can’t wait until Snoop Dogg gets nominated.

:^)
The members of most rock bands are sniviling guilt-ridden libs who can’t think much beyond their fingertips. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Oscars, Emmys...they’re all the same to me. But if you want to talk Cooperstown.....
Where’s Stevie Ray Vaughan? He’s eligible this year.
What is their "track record" exactly?
30+ albums of the same formulaic stuff?
Take a Cream-style blues rock rhythm section and dial down the intensity, add a Blood Sweat And Tears-style horn section and rip all the funk out of it, throw in some sappy love ballads and call it an album.
Very safe, very consistent, very boring.
Their collaboration on "Walk This Way" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AKaV911uJA) with Aerosmith literally kicked down the wall between rock and rap. They influenced the genre in many more ways.
Rock music would not sound the same today if not for Run DMC.
Cooper and Simmons are both die-hard conservatives but I’m sure that doesn’t have anything to do with the snubs.
/sarcasm
[frankly, I am mortified to find out that Alice isn’t ~already~ in the HOF...the man is the grandfather of a number a rock genres]
Metallica probably bought the trademark for the phrase “Rock’N Roll Hall of Fame”
and then threatened to sue to get the nomination.
I'd say up to Chicago V, they were pretty good, then started going downhill when they gave more of the singing duties to Peter Cetera, and then after Terry Kath's death, it really went downhill after that.
Exactly. Of course, that also means that Run DMC are to blame for Linkin Park. With great freshness comes great responsibility.
He’s dead, Jim ;-)
Beck goes back a long ways, and has put out a lot of good tunes.

p.s...Pick up “Along Came A Spider” yet? He’s -still- got it...:)
No Butthole Surfers?
Not suprising, that hall of fame is getting a little bit too picky for its own good.
Are they still miffed that Jethro Tull beat them out at the Grammys?
:))
Wow that is a huge list, and some of my favorites are on that list too for shame ;-{
Rock and roll has long been dead, Guns and Roses was the last true band, it’s over people.
Chicago and Kansas has a similar slide...an over-commitment to sappy ballads.
Didn’t make the cut...also...RUN DMC got in first year of eligibility (this is a sign of things to come with pop/hip hop/rap), Metallica got in on second year eligible, The Stooges were expected to get in because of them being tight with Jann Wenner and they did the tribute t Madonna last year.
I was shocked they left out The Beastie Boys to be honest. I thought they would go in on first shot as well.
You say that like it's a good thing.
One of the greatest Rock albums of all time.
....Or even Springfield, MA, home of the Basketball Hall of Fame, which has got now a state-of-the-art building I will talk. :-)
It’s beyond disgraceful...it’s like Jann Wenner goes out of his way to snub the biggest acts of the 70s and 80s because he enjoys sticking it to them year in and year out.
Steven Colbert had Rush on his show about 2 months ago and they performed on his show...first live TV appearance for them since 1975...he asked them about not being in the hall of fame yet and said “So is your next album going to be called “That’s Bullshit”?
Metallica, The Stooges, Run DMC.. cool, may be fun to watch..
Sure. They were big for a few months about 16 or 17 years ago.
I believe that this "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" is basically an ego trip for the goofball homosexual who made his fortune with 'Rolling Stone' (remember that?) and he tries to balance classic rock-and-roll inductions with rap, hip-hop, and rhythm-and-blues inductions.
So this year he pulled Run DMC out of the hat. People remember Run DMC because they're on that Very Special Christmas CD, the one with the Pretenders truly great version of 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'.
Don't worry - - nobody over the age of 17 actually takes this "induction" crap seriously. The old rockers show up to schmooze and party. That said, I have been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and it really is pretty cool. There's lots of interesting stuff to see. You can make a day of it. I recommend the trip.
Awesome, the Stooges and Run DMC! Metallica kind of lost me after And Justice, but their new record is pretty solid. Sounds like a mixture of Puppets and Justice with maybe a little black album thrown in on some choruses. Lars’ drumming is stellar on the record.
I was looking for them too.
The Rock & Roll HOF seems to have the same problem as many rock critics - they prefer quantity sold over quality. The critics might not like a popular band, but they’ll waste a lot of ink on them, neglecting a better band which is less known.
In the name of all that is holy do not allow Styx into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The ultimate wuss band.
No kidding
geesh
Run DMC’s history was back when rap was good. They almost invented the genre of the rap/rock fusion. They are considered the pioneers of rap, IMHO, a well deserved nomination. It may be good to have folks reminded what good rap was instead of the gangsta crap.
I saw a “documentary” on TV that mentioned Tolstoy almost named “War & Peace” as “War, what is it good for?”
Metallica, Pop? You have got to be kidding.

Is that a young Benny Hill sitting in front of Chris Cornell?
