NRA Begins Push To Tarnish Obama On Guns
CBS News ^ | 9-24-08 | Brian Montopoli

The defining moment in the National Rifle Association's eight-figure advertising offensive against Barack Obama takes place about 15 seconds into a new spot featuring Karl Rusch, a white, middle aged Virginian clad in hunting gear.

After claiming that Obama supports "a huge new tax on my guns and ammo," Rusch closes the door of his truck and turns directly to the camera.

"Where is this guy from?" he asks. "He's probably never been hunting a day in his life."

The spot, the Washington Post points out, is a "huge stretch" - the claim that Obama wants to institute a large tax on guns and ammo, for instance, rests on a few words in an essentially irrelevant and vaguely-worded newspaper article from nine years ago.

But the point is clear: If you're a hunter, Barack Obama is not anything like you. And if he doesn't understand your concerns, he sure doesn't deserve your vote.

a few words in an essentially irrelevant and vaguely-worded newspaper article from nine years ago

In fact Obama supported banning ammunition, in a "vague" declaration completed for the Independent Voters of Illinois Independent Precinct Organization in which Obama declared his positions on a number of topics, including

35. Do you support legislation to ban the manufacture, sale and possession of

a. handguns?

While a complete ban on handguns is not politically practicable , I believe reasonable restrictions on the sale and possession of handguns are necessary to protect the public safety. In the Illinois Senate last year, I supported a package of bills to limit individual Illinoisans to purchasing one handgun a month; require all promoters and sellers at firearms shows to carry a state license; allow civil liability for death or injuries caused by handguns ; and require FOID applicants to apply in person. I would support similar efforts at the federal level , including retaining the Brady Law.

b. assault weapons?

Yes.

c. ammunition for handguns and assault weapons?

I would support banning the sale of ammunition for assault weapons and limiting the sale of ammunition for handguns

Among other goodies from his IVI-IPO 2004 US SENATE QUESTIONNAIRE

"But the point is clear: If you're a hunter, Barack Obama is not anything like you. And if he doesn't understand your concerns, he sure doesn't deserve your vote."

That's about right. Let me change one word or two and make it perfectly clear.

But the point is clear: If you're an American, Barack Obama is not anything like you. And if he doesn't understand your concerns, he sure doesn't deserve your vote.

That is more like it.

"Where is this guy from?" he asks. "He's probably never been hunting a day in his life."

Here in the belly of the liberal beast we have Devil Patrick, Obama’s buddy. I can only imagine Obama will be just as bad if not worse than him on guns. We got lucky this time when the legislators surprisingly stood up for us by shooting down his fee increases. Next time we might not be so lucky.

The best thing about big ears is not hunting in the woods, but hunting with your spouse.

Was it during Devil's watch that Mass banned mail order of reloading components? Last year I ordered some from Midway, and the sale would not go through because of it. Empty brass.

It worked out fine, in the end. I had a suplus of stainless stock from a discontinued item, so went to the local scrap yard to cash it in...and what did I see but BARRELLS of once-fired brass from some range.

So I bought brass scrap.
