Analysis: Fact-Checkers Fall Short in Criticizing NRA's Anti-Obama Ads (John Lott)
Fox News ^ | September 24, 2008 | John Lott

Posted on 09/24/2008 3:47:33 PM PDT by Stoat

Guns have become an important issue for Barack Obama’s campaign. Starting around the Pennsylvania primary, Obama and his campaign surrogates began strenuously assuring gun owners that he supports gun ownership, and it appears to be paying off. A poll in August showed that John McCain led Obama among hunters by only 14 percentage points, just about half the 27-point lead that President Bush held over John Kerry in 2004. If McCain had a similar lead, he would be ahead in most polls, particularly in many battleground states.

This past weekend, Joe Biden, campaigning in southwest Virginia, called any notion that Obama wanted to take away people’s guns “malarkey.” Montana's Democratic governor, Brian Schweitzer, previously told reporters that Obama "Ain't ever going to take your gun away." Obama regularly makes similar statements -- at least about rifles and shotguns.

Yet, the NRA, which has given the voting records of both Obama and Biden an “F” rating, has a quite different view, and has started a $15 million ad campaign to warn people about what it regards as Obama’s and Biden’s records. One mailer from the NRA says, "Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history."

The proposed 2nd presidential debate will be another YouTube style debate.
Someone needs to send in the question to 0bama: Have you ever fired a gun?

This is a lose-lose question for 0bama.

I’ve seen all four of the ads on the internet. They are hard-hitting pieces.

From NationalReviewOnline:

Obama on a Handgun Ban and Their Use

Obama said tonight that he never supported a ban on handguns. Gibson mentioned a questionnaire, and once again, Obama said he wasn't the one who filled it out.

I presume this is the questionnaire he's referring to: "That 1996 questionnaire asked whether he supported banning the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns in Illinois. The campaign's answer was straightforward: "Yes."

I now see that Obama has been saying for a while that some unnamed aide filled out that form without consulting him. (The Politico noted his handwriting appears on the questionnaire, the one he said he never saw.)

Also note:

llinois resident Hale DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette for using a handgun to defend his home in 2003. Wilmette had imposed a ban on the possession of handguns, in effect making the town a gun-free zone.

To correct the situation, several Illinois state legislators introduced SB 2165 to protect the right of self-defense for residents like DeMar. Obama voted against the bill.

That self-defense bill protecting the right to bear arms for law-abiding citizens such as DeMar passed the Illinois state Senate and was enacted into law over the governor's veto (and Obama's opposition).

So he wouldn't ban handguns, he would just ban using them.

Do you suppose that the 'moderators' would even allow such an essential and entirely relevant question to be put to The Anointed 0ne?

My great hope is that the majority of the current polling data is entirely media-manufactured BS, because if it's not and there ACTUALLY are so very many Americans supporting this Marxist empty suit...well, that's very depressing news for America and America's future.

Have you found a link that people can go to where they can see all of them?

I think that many readers would appreciate the opportunity to see the ads for themselves.

An excellent point. The RKBA is clearly a very important issue this campaign season, yet it is exceedingly unlikely that any questions, much less tough questions, will be asked of Senator "Coke-head" Obama.

Obama is against guns, like Castro, Stalin and Hitler - so that freedom fighters cannot defend themselves.

Your gun is your ultimate voting lever.

There’s been a Obama ad playing like clockwork on the radio...I know it’s a lie, but it plays...some ex redskin football player...says he’s part of some hunting org...says, ‘both McCain and Obama will protect our right to own guns’...which is the message they want to get out—most households in the area have guns, and more than one—then he talks about something else, economy...something...I imagine if Kerry or Gore had played an ad like that for two months before the election, the results would have been different.

I’d write a letter to the local paper...most the of the letters have been anti-McCain...but since the neighbor lady has imposed economic sanctions on me for piling my snow too close to her house (I’m self-employed in a small town.) and since the greater portion of the population here are blue bloods, I prefer to maintain a sleeper status and keep the ammo handy.

In the end, the people will get what they deserve.

I had occasional difficulty getting the "gunbanobama" link in post # 14 to load (probably an EXTREMELY popular site right now) and if you have similar difficulty you might try this:

YouTube - NRAVideos's Channel

YouTube 'may' have more bandwidth available ( I didn't have any difficulty in loading or playing the videos) and the great thing about bookmarking the NRA's channel  is that you can see not only these four recent ones but ALL of the NRA YouTube videos from one convenient spot.
