Liberal PACs Ready Attack Ad on McCain’s Health
New York Times "The Caucus" ^ | September 25, 2008 | Jim Rutenberg

Posted on 09/25/2008 9:57:19 AM PDT by South Hawthorne

Two liberal groups – one of them directed by a brother of the Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean – will begin running a graphic attack advertisement Thursday morning raising questions about Senator John McCain’s health. Showing vivid and unflattering images of the fresh scar that appeared on Senator McCain’s face immediately after his last operation for melanoma skin cancer eight years ago, the commercial ends with a screen headline that reads, “Why won’t John McCain release his medical records?” (Mr. McCain, 72, did invite a limited group of reporters to inspect more than 1,100 pages of his medical records in May, though he gave them only a three-hour window in which to review the documents.)

The commercial is among the harshest to run against Mr. McCain yet, seeking to exploit the sensitive issues of health and age. Officials with the groups running the ad, Brave New PAC and Democracy for America, said they were only showing the spot initially on MSNBC over the next few days, a limited run intended to draw news media attention on a network that has increasingly catered to liberal tastes.

Well, that's pretty retarded.

Why would you run an ad when the only people who are going to see it already agree with you in a fevered, rabid way?

Owl_Eagle

There are people who are surrounded by bigots
and know it is wrong, but are afraid to be vocal against it.
These people are going to pull the lever for Obama
and they are not being polled.

A team of doctors from the Mayo Clinic declared Friday that there appears to be no physical reason why Sen. John McCain, the 71-year-old presumed Republican presidential candidate, could not carry out the duties of the office.

“Sen. McCain enjoys excellent health and displays extraordinary energy, and, while it is impossible to predict any person’s future health, I and my colleagues can find no medical reason or problem that would preclude Sen. McCain from fulfilling all of the duties or obligations of the president of the United States,” said Dr. John D. Eckstein, an internist who has been overseeing McCain’s treatment for 16 years at the famed research center’s campus in Scottsdale, Arizona.

McCain has been undergoing periodic examinations there since the 1990s and annual examinations since 2000, Eckstein said. His most recent comprehensive examination took place in March, with follow-up tests this month.

The doctors described a number of health issues faced by McCain, many of them typical for a man of his age but at least one of them potentially serious.

McCain's mother is still going strong at age 96.

Barack Obama is 47, but he smokes and his father died at 46 and his mother died at 52.

Average age of decease of McCain's parents: 83 and counting.

Average age of decease of Barack Obama's parents: 49.

This is pretty low. And it comes from the side that screams about ending negative campaigning. Only if it comes from the right I guess.

I’d leave out the “GO AHEAD MAKE MY DAY!!” (Too much like a Bush thing!) (Ha!)

BUT - I’d certainly tell them LOUD and clear:

“....you want to talk about scars?”

A GREAT one!!

This is an excellent idea. Barack Obama should show that he’s on top of the issue by releasing his medical records, and his birth certificate, and his college transcripts, and his thesis paper, and all documentation related to his work as a community organizer in Chicago. And as a state Senator.

(1) This line of reasoning didn't work for Mondale.

(2) Seniors vote - and commercials saying that a man who is their age shouldn't be elected because he is liable to drop dead at any moment? Not the way to their hearts.

Scars are tattoos with better stories!

Most of McCain’s he can wear with pride, because he has been to battle and WON! Take that, Dr. Dean!
