Letterman keeps up McCain tirade (Unbelievable Arrogance!!!!)
CNN ^ | 9/26/2008 | Staff

Posted on 09/26/2008 7:43:46 AM PDT by Red in Blue PA

David Letterman kept up his verbal assault on John McCain, commiserating with Paris Hilton and saying he felt like an "ugly date" because the GOP presidential candidate backed out of an appearance on the "Late Show."

David Letterman described Paris Hilton as John McCain's first choice for a running mate.

The late-night CBS comedian was upset Wednesday when McCain canceled an appearance to deal with the economic crisis.

After backing out of the Letterman show, McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric, then didn't leave New York until Thursday, further angering Letterman.

At first, Letterman said, he felt like a "patriot" to let McCain off.

"Now I'm feeling like an ugly date," Letterman said. "I feel used. I feel cheap. I feel sullied."

****************

"Here's how it works: You don't come to see me? You don't come to see me? Well, we might not see you on Inauguration Day," Letterman said.

Shows what a piece of garbage he really is. I have not watched his show for over a decade but read about how he would not even tell O’Reilly he wanted America to “win” in Iraq. How low can you go. And to think when I was a big fan in the 1980s I would defend Dave against people who said he was obnoxious!

McCain even called him personally to apologize. Dave refers to McCain as a hero. Yet this stupid pettiness goes on. I’m glad he is #3 in the ratings.

Letterman’s 15 minutes have been up for so long - he was funny like back in the 80s or maybe early 90s. He should get out - nobody watches, nobody cares.

Don’t remind me. I said about a week ago that the only way USC could lose was to beat itself. They accomplished that. Couldn’t believe they couldn’t tackle a 5’7” 170 lb running back. Every year USC starts out with the best talent and somewhere along the way they manage to lose to an opponent that they should dominate. Sanchez sure didn’t impress.

Letterman deserves an Emmy ... for having the best toupee in the world.

He didn’t make the mistake most toupee wearers make of getting a “full” head of phony hair. It looks natural, like the real hair of a normal 50-something guy, complete with a smallish bald spot.

Of course outside of this one saving grace he’s a bag of excrement particularly over the McCain matter. An ordinary, decent, intelligent person would recognize that McC had to concentrate (confer with staff, think) about the emergency and preparing for an appearance on a talk show would interfere with all of that. But Dave is an egocentric cry baby and a leftwinger.

And yet McCain chose Letterman’s show to announce he was running for the presidency. He’s been on the show any number of times. He obviously thought that appearing on Letterman’s show was useful. But he’s kind of burned his bridges with Letterman now.

Apparently appearing on Katie Couric's was. At the same time he was supposed to be appearing on Letterman, he was in a nearby studio with Couric doing an interview with her.

Apparently appearing on Katie Couric's was. At the same time he was supposed to be appearing on Letterman, he was in a nearby studio with Couric doing an interview with her.
And if he had left for Washington right after that, his urgency to fix the economy might seem credible, but instead he stayed in New York and gave a speech for Bill Clinton's organization the next morning.

He spoke to Katie Couric for what, three minutes? He could have done both shows. I think Letterman has been in the tank for Obama despite occasional attempts to appear otherwise. I've spoken to a lot of people who think Letterman's take on this is great. Letterman may be a jackass, but he is being a jackass at McCain's expense and McCain could have handled that situation better.

I'd like to believe that the rantings of a late-night talk-show host will have no effect on the election, but I can't muster that kind of optimism anymore.

Well put yourself in Letterman's shoes. How would you feel to be stood up for the likes of Katie Couric?

But I agree that Letterman is milking this for all it's worth and at McCain's expense. And should McCain ever be foolish enough to sound out Letterman about possibly appearing again, I predict that Dave will say 'no' and then spend a show or two crowing about it.

And the speech to Clinton's Global Initiative on Thursday? Where did that fit in with the suspended campaign?

McCain could have handled it better. He lied to get out of his commitment to Letterman and now Letterman is getting even. That's all there is to it. Petty, I know. But there it is.
