...Granholm was asked how to get the public on board the push to more alternative energies. She said some members of the state Legislature aren't enamored with government mandates on environmental issues. If you can't woo them with wind turbines, she said, point to all the jobs that are being created by pushing for alternative energy.
Granholm covered numerous other topics:
She said there needs to be a "carbon tax'' on coal, oil and gas to help reduce carbon emissions. "That's a good thing,'' the governor said.
Granholm said she was in Japan and saw high-speed rail service. "Why don't we have that?'' she asked. She said a high-speed rail service could go from Detroit to Chicago and New York.
Granholm pointed to a $25 billion loan the House of Representatives approved for the auto companies. She said that money would only be authorized if it were used to increase fuel efficiencies.
She said that utility companies need to be provided incentives so they make money when less energy is used. She said the current system rewards utilities for more energy consumption.
Granholm said the U.S. should have used its position as the most powerful country in the world to leverage with its international trading powers a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
She said "feed-in tariffs,'' which require utilities to buy renewable electricity from sources such as solar or wind power, can help offset the higher cost of installing alternative energy. She proposed that as a way to spur installation of solar panels in residences, which can cost as much as $40,000.

I didn't vote for her, and I still have my DeVos sticker on my truck.

The woman really is an idiot. After having taken a wrecking ball to Michigan's economy with a massive tax hike and new spending, she thinks its a wonderful idea to increase the dosage!

Worst governor ever Ping.

The only good thing good about this woman is that she will be gone in 2 years. Hopefully, Michigan has learned its lesson and will finally vote someone in that will actually help our state. If everyone wants to see what the country will look like under Obama, just look at us. No better example.

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Get to Michigan for free foodstamps before they run out. No need to bring your own lawyer to scam the system for generous workmen’s comp benefits, for we have thousands of shysters here who will connect you up with a crooked quack to qualify you.

They could make it like the Auto Train only optimized for moving vans.

:') The goof-bag governor, like everyone from that side of the aisle who wish to herd us all around in boxcars as they enjoy their limos on the empty streets, ignores the extremely high population density in Japan, and for that matter, in Europe, and in damned few places in the US.
Despite what maglev train advocate (and ex-FReeper) Willie Green used to regurgitate around here, the price of fuel economy (passengers per mile per gallon) is loss of efficiency, not a gain, because the only productivity gained is in how many people get moved by one vehicle.
Carpooling can work, but a carpool is personalized service, and the loss of efficiency is much smaller.
Again, in a few heavily populated places in the US (LA, NY) some time can be saved (how much is saved in practice is probably exaggerated by mass transit advos), but by and large, mass transit is just another pork barrel / earmark / subsidized boondoggle, and the costs start to rise early, and continue to rise until they're unsustainable. The
Washington DC train system works nicely, and thanks to the taxpayer, will continue to sprawl.
Of course, I'm just sore because we never got the moving sidewalks we were promised.

I’ve always looked upon mass transit with a jaundiced eye as an insidious form of people control. Get everyone using mass transit to the point where they don’t keep their own vehicles and then one can easily control how freely and easily they are allowed to get around.
Maybe I’m just paranoid.
