Oxymoron alert!

I honestly don’t think it’s *that important. Quayle was horrible. There’s 2 presidential debates after this one and when Nov. comes, People vote for the #1.

Take a deep breath. These so-called experts are as clueless about Governor Palin as they were about another politician that they dismissed as just a second-rate actor, Ronald Reagan. Those who live in liberal bastions like NY and DC have no idea what the real world is about. Time and again they have proven themselves the laughingstock of the country. Remember the 1972 campaign when some Upper West Side liberal professed absolute shock that Nixon had won re-election in such a landslide? Remember how the pundits all said the 1980 election would be so close? Every 4 years they pull out the same old tricks in hopes of elevating a liberal dimwit to the presidency, and every 4 years the American people are right there to slap them silly.

But, I really hope the cadre of advisers helping her on debate prep will turn out an incredible candidate.

The problem is, as Chet99 has pointed out, that Governor Palin's handlers and prep team are "over coaching" her and bombarding her with too much information and too many talking points. It really showed in the Couric interview.

They're so worried about the potential gotcha questions (i.e. Bush not knowing who Musharraf was in 2000) that they are severely cramping her style. They just need to give the governor what she needs, step back, and let her be herself and do her work.

Kathyrn, you got some esplainin to do.

Kathryn (who I recall was a strong Romney supporter) explained that the McCain campaign needs to loosen up and let Sarah be Sarah, including giving her more spotaneous access to reporters. I think most of us agree with that.

I have now seen three TV Palin interviews. The Gibson interview was good the first night, great the second night. The Hannity interview on FNC was a grand slam -- that was the real Sarah Palin, the same ones you can find on YouTube by C-Span, CNBC, and local Alaskan media. The Couric interview....I have mixed feelings. When I am actually watching it, I think she does fine, but when I then wait a few minutes my impression is that she did okay but not great. She could have been better prepared, or given tighter, crisper answers. Then I watch the interview again and think she did just fine again.

None of this matters if she does well in the debate against Biden. I have watched some of her debates from the Alaskan governor's race. If that Sarah Palin, or the one that we saw in the Hannity interview, shows up on Thursday, she'll do just fine. Better than fine, even.

Politico as a spin off of Washington Post reporters about to be laid off.

They didn’t lose their Post sentiments and stupidity when they went to Politico. You are just reading the online version of the Washington Post.

I don’t think we are falling for the spin it just makes us mad as heck that these liberals keep putting out there all this stupid stuff when we all know what a great choice McCain made..I can tell you this I was about to give up all together before McCain chose Sarah I just though he would choose one of the good old RINOEs in washington..I was not going to vote..And when I saw her and heard her speak it changed me and I said hey I would love to have her for my president..she thinks just like we do..She will have to start off as VP but I have no doubt she could win any election..

Some of her answers were pretty bad. We got to be honest. But, she hasn’t had to do many of those interviews. I think she will get better, and her speech was incredible. But, I really hope the cadre of advisers helping her on debate prep will turn out an incredible candidate.

Honest my a**. Her answers were just fine, it was the editing that makes them look bad. Palin is twice the man either BozObama and Biden are. As far as "she will get better", she isn't the problem, the problem is the hostile people asking the questions. She has taken questions that BozObama won't even let be asked and as for Biden, what a total waste of oxygen that guy is! She has totally destroyed the disgraceful Republicans in Alaska and I am sure she needs no help with her debate, but I am equally sure she will get plenty. I really get tired of people like you seeing only the negative and never assigning the blame where it belongs, on the Left Stream Media.

The only thing Sarah has done wrong so far is to actually let the campaign force her into doing interviews with an extremely hostile press.

I watched her on C-Span in the AK Gov debates. She did fine and had a great command of the issues. I think she will be able to handle herself against Biden.

It is important for those of us who love Sarah. she is our voice. I am 22 years old and I have never had a voice in the White House that knows who I am and where I come from. I grew up in a town of 5000 people. I feel like I know Sarah because I saw hundreds of Sarahs at the high school football game last night. She knows us. She is one of us.

Like Harry Truman before her. what you see is what you get. shes genuine and real.

That is why we love her.

GO SARAH !

” Palin is a plain-spoken person, not a member of the media-savvy elite.”

Indeed.

But I don’t think those so-called “elites” are particularly intelligent or media-savvy. When they talk to the LeftMedia they know they are among close friends. With a true conservative such as Sarah Palin, it is like going to war; specifically like trying to navigate a carefully pre-prepared minefield.

I must say, I am very disappointed with some of the unfair comments on this thread regarding Governor Palin’s media “performances”. It is not what I would expect from conservativies who ought to know better. But then we do have more than a few deep-cover LeftIdiots playing infantile reindeer games here on FR.

Personally, I would completely circumvent the Democrat-run old media, continually and overtly state my specific reasons why (gross and despicable LeftPropaganda bias), and talk to the public directly.

wonder who these einsteins would have instead. Romney? Huckleberry? Thompson? Giuliani? Obama would be ahead by twenty points. Palin is the only reason there is still a race this year.

In this group, only Guliani would have had almost as much an impact, and even then because he is ideal for the attack dog role of VP nominee. And I don't know that Guliani would have energized the GOP base the way Palin has.

Obviously her debate with Biden will be more closely watched than the usual VP debate. If she does well, she can give the McCain campaign yet another shot in the arm. We all need to remember that she was a high risk, high reward pick. She did very well in her Alaska debates (which are available on YouTube), where she showed herself to be poised, clear, and well-prepared.

She will also benefit from low expectations. I really hate to say that because I think many people grossly and unfairly underestimate this woman. But precisely because of this gross and unfair underestimation of her abilities, she is going to benefit from low expectations.

Tony Fabrizio shows up every election cycle to bad mouth Republicans. In 2004, he kept saying Bush was going to lose big.

“But she ain’t Dick Cheney, nor Joe Biden and definitely not Hillary Clinton.”

OK, I must be living in an alternative universe. Biden says one horrendous gaffe after another, draws crowds in the single digits, is rumored to be dumped any day now, is probably the worst national candidate in history, yet our Sarah keeps taking the heat!!! AAAARRGHHH

Great Caesar's Ghost!!! I must agree. Biden is intent on proving if he had a brain he would take it out and play with it! As for Hillary, she isn't quite as bad as Obama if she has no script, but she is close!!!

As for Kathleen Parker I can only conclude she didn't actually write that article. If she did, she must have recently bumped her head...HARD.

All I can say is, "Wow!"

If Palin does poorly in the debate, she may find herself in Quayle territory. She has clearly been overly coached and overly loaded with sound bites. I hope the handlers cut her loose for the debate. I’ve seen her Alaska debates and know she can shine. These McCain handlers are killin’ her!
