"The $700 billion bailout for Wall Street, is driven by fear not fact. This is too much money in too a short a time going to too few people while too many questions remain unanswered.
Why aren't we having hearings on the plan we have just received? Why aren't we questioning the underlying premise of the need for a bailout with taxpayers' money? Why have we not considered any alternatives other than to give $700 billion to Wall Street? Why aren't we asking Wall Street to clean up its own mess? Why aren't we passing new laws to stop the speculation, which triggered this? Why aren't we putting up new regulatory structures to protect investors? How do we even value the $700 billion in toxic assets?

This is one of the first times I've ever agreed with this guy. He opposes it for entirely different reasons but sometimes the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

We have been HAD! This plan will not work. Run the banks before it is too late. Are you trying to be sarcastic, or to make a joke? I can't really tell from your post. But, there's been a silent run going on for months, now, online. Withdrawals of $16 billion over the two weeks prior is what finally did WaMu in, even though they'd been in bad shape for most of this year. Others will follow in short order, if things aren't stabilized, or at least perceived to have been stabilized.
To: Maelstorm
I find myself asking sooooo many questions. I still think something needs to be done to stabilize our economy-like it or not. The breadth of what is happening is mind boggeling. This comes down to urgency first. We fear what we do not know. We can deal with passing laws soon, but this money is needed to stabilize our economy. It bothers me that this came without “warning”—I do believe there are other ways to provide relief. I am just asking myself—who or what is being protected by the bailout?
To: Maelstorm
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with Dennis Kucinich!

I suspect he has heard from his constituents. They can only tick off so many voters and this is so public, I think everyone should be contacting their congresscritters. I just sent faxes to both of my senators and my worthless rep (Wexler). If ENOUGH people scream they WILL hear us. I sincerely doubt they are getting lots of contact from people saying, hey yeah, do it.
