Five chaplains lose jobs for praying ‘In Jesus’ Name’
http://theapostolicreport.wordpress.com ^ | Sept, 27, 2009 | Christian Newswire

Posted on 09/28/2008 4:51:35 PM PDT by Maelstorm

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine is defending why his administration forced the sudden resignation of five Virginia State Police Chaplains because they prayed publicly “in Jesus’ name.” Police Superintendent Col. W. Steven Flaherty single-handedly created then enforced a strict “non-sectarian” prayer policy at all public gatherings, censoring and excluding Christian prayers, then accepted the resignation of five chaplains who refused to deny Jesus or violate their conscience by watering down their prayers.

House Republican Leader Morgan Griffith and Delegate Charles W. Carrico, (R-Grayson) both issued public statements defending the chaplains, questioning Governor Kaine’s role in terminating the chaplains, and vowing to introduce legislation protecting police chaplains’ right to pray according to their own conscience.

Defending Flaherty’s persecution of Christian Chaplains, Governor Kaine pretended he himself was being persecuted, saying through his spokesman: “It is disappointing that Del. Griffith would make such a political attack on Gov. Kaine about his faith.”

Former Navy Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt, who was also fired in 2007 for praying “in Jesus name” in uniform (but won the victory in the U.S. Congress for other military chaplains), weighed in:

“Governor Kaine campaigned like a Christian to get our votes. But now, instead of governing like a Christian, or respecting his own chaplains’ First Amendment rights, his administration forced the resignation of five police chaplains, simply because they prayed publicly ‘in Jesus’ name.’ These five chaplains lost their jobs for honoring Christ. They’re heroes of the faith, because they refused to deny Jesus when ordered to by the Kaine administration. If they contact me, they will be honored through my web-site: www.PrayInJesusName.org. And now Governor Kaine pretends he’s the martyr, because we question why his administration forced them to resign for praying to Jesus? He’s still got a job, they don’t. Governor Kaine isn’t the martyr, he’s the persecutor.”

Citizens are urged to call Governor Kaine’s office at 804-786-2211, to insist the chaplains be reinstated and the policy reversed, and also email him through his web-site:

Silly Chaplains, don’t they know that there is one god and Liberalisim is it’s name. And on the first day god created abortion and said “It is good”. On the second day, god created taxes, on the third day god created more taxes and said “I like taxes”. On the fourth day god created hand outs, requiring the creation of more taxes. On the fifth, sixth and seventh day the god liberalisim rested, because in liberal heaven, they have a four day work week, just like France.

I guess the next question is if you’re allowed to mention “God” in prayers. If not, what would be the point of having a chaplain? Who and/or what are we praying to? The State? Governor Kaine?

Here’s how the chaplains can fight back. Instead of saying the name of Jesus in english pray the name in a different language like spanish or hebrew! Thats right...introduce the name of Jesus across a multi-cultural diversity spectrum. Let the marxist censors get in a tizzy over that!
I’m not kidding either!

A friend of mine who claims to be agnostic has seen the way government goons and loons act toward people who name the name of Jesus.

That's starting to convince him that Christianity may be true after all.

Persecution got the church moving and growing 2000 years ago and it may do the same thing now.

The Church prays regularly for all who govern, “That we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” The Church prays only in Jesus Name because without Jesus there is no life, liberty, or pursuit of happiness (temporary as these are in this world), but only fakery.

Virgina has been blessed with an ignorant Governor. He's not the first and certainly will not be the last.

I just e mailed Gov. Kaine with this message...

Gov. Kaine, How dare you deny chaplains the right to pray in the name of Jesus. The founders of this nation fled religious tyranny of England. This is government interfering with the free practice of religion. This is not Red China, USSR, Cuba or N. Korea. You sir and the rest of your liberal comrades in government are denying the rights of both chaplains and citizens who want to hear the name of Jesus in a prayer. You can deny Jesus as your right but you have no right to deny others praying in his name. You are an elitist and out of touch politician....true Americans are disgusted with pols like you.

Dear Gov. Kaine: If you think using "Jesus'" name while praying anywhere, by anyone is so wrong, please send me all your money with the words "In God we trust" printed thereon. I will be happy to spend it as you seem to have no need for believing in one of the reasons our country was founded - Freedom of Religion (and the outward practice, thereof).

Therefore, you should not dirty your hands with our currency, nor should you spend the money paid to you by us if you do not believe in honoring what our forefathers' deigned for our country. That is, that we are governed by democratic principles. Democrat rule is the rule of the MAJORITY - in case you have forgotten - and not the minority of today's whining, cry-baby, our-feelings-are-being-hurt, namby-pamby far-left wing liberals who want to take away our freedoms under the guise of being politically correct. You are another misguided Democrat who won't be able to argue or excuse your PC position at the Pearly Gates on judgment day.

His faith is a delusion, Governor Kaine is deceiving himself.

This is interesting. Did Tim Kane just do something outrageous enough to send voters into the arms of the Republicans and hand the state to John McCain? It’ll be interesting to see if the citizens of the Virginia Commonwealth become outraged about this.

Absolutely. If I had to pray aloud in public in Virginia, I would end the prayer with, "In the Name above all Names, Amen." We all know WHO that is! See what they do with that response. Such a sad time in our nation's history---I hardly recognize my country anymore.

One would love to believe such things, but there are so many who go to “Christian churches” who appear ready to vote for 0bama. There is a form of godliness out there (while denying the power thereof) that is willing to look at this and conclude that Kane was correct and these “pretentious” Christians should have had greater respect for the state’s laws.

Delegate Carrico launches website petition calling on Kaine Administration to reverse ban on mention of Jesus Christ by chaplains

Petition at InJesusNameIPray.org becomes available for signatures

Galax, Virginia, 26 September 2008: Delegate Charles W. “Bill” Carrico, Sr. (R-Grayson) today announced the launch of an Internet-based petition calling on Virginia State Police Superintendent W. Steven Flaherty to reverse his directive prohibiting the Virginia State troopers who also serve as voluntary chaplains from referencing Jesus Christ in public prayers. The petition, available at www.injesusnameipray.org, is intended to garner support for those troopers who resigned their duties as chaplains over the directive.

“With the launch of this website, the public can join the chaplains in their cause and urge Colonel Flaherty and the Kaine Administration to reconsider their decision and reverse this directive,” Delegate Carrico declared. “A lot of people have contacted me asking how they can help. This petition provides those who share my concern about the plight of the chaplains an avenue for action.”

A former Virginia State trooper first elected to the House of Delegates in 2001, Delegate Carrico represents the 5th District, which is comprised of Grayson County, the City of Galax, and portions of Carroll, Smyth, and Wythe Counties.

Do cops really say “in the name of the law” when they arrest someone or do they just do it?

If they are acting within their charter and commission then they are acting in the name of the law.

When Christians act within their charter and commission, they too act in Jesus name without having to say it.

Are there times to say it? Sure. But not tacked onto the end of ever prayer, ‘inthenameofjesuschristamen’ type of thing.
