Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform at halftime during Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa.
The NFL and NBC made the announcement Sunday night.

Springsteen is a socialist wank.
Springsteen is hated by every patriotic American which means most NFL fans.
I have never understood the swooning for this guy. He always looks like he’s passing a kidney stone when he sings.
I think the last 3 have been Rolling Stones, Prince, and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
Funny thing is, I can’t imagine what Grunter Springsteen would sing - most of his crap is whiny. Dancing in the Dark? Born to Run?
What I don’t get is the amount of attention paid to the Super Bowl halftime show. Between that and the ads it’s as if everyone forgets the point of the event: to play football.
Wait....don't change it. Someone might show a boob.
Oops - in this case the boob is Springsteen.
The game being in Florida, I would have thought Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band would have been a no-brainer, and a lot more popular choice across the board.
I imagine Bruce’ll keep the politics out of it, though. Those Super Bowl halftimes are way too tightly-paced for ranting.
As always, the second NBC football goes to the halftime show I turn the channel. EVERYBODY I know does the same thing. Nothing will change this Super Bowl.
I love football but hate the super bowl.....
I love football but not so fond of the super bowl.....
That’s a pretty big contradiction.
“Between that and the ads, its as if everyone forgets the point of the event: to play football.”
I really think that every music concert should be interrupted by an NFL game. I have no idea why they allow the trashy music industry to garbage up the field at halftime with those gaudy and time consuming spectacles with thousands of participants.
And besides, isn’t Springstein that jackass who hid in Canada during the Vietnam War? What a jerk!
Ha, Ha, you’re original thought came through, we can read your mind, you are a HATER!!!!!!!!!!! Like all Republicans, full of HATE ; )
So is he going to start a lecture on socialism before he starts singing?
I think I go out to store get more snacks LOL!
I haven’t watched the haltime crap for many years. It’s a tradition!
He’s the type that might spit out something political, being NBC I doubt they would put anything in his contract to stop him.
Bring back, “Up with People!”
Second and third rounds of the playoffs are decent. The rest usually suck eggs.
There’s always room for jello...
I know..... I grow weary of the hype that surrounds the game....and when the Super Bowl is done it seems I have to wait forever for next season....
“springsteen is hated by every patriotic American which means most NFL fans.”
With him on — it just means I don’t have to fight with anyone to change the channel during half time...which come to think of it...I haven’t seen a half time show in a long, long, long time.
As a matter of fact the last time I remember anyone singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl was 1993 in Pasadena. Garth Brooks sang the National Anthem. It was the Cowboys vs Bills. What a great game — couldn’t even tell you who the half time show was — went to the bathroom. But by God, I do remember Garth Brooks — made me cry and made me proud to be an American.
Shouldn’t they really be doing something to honor our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen that fight for our freedom — and give us the freedom to watch a game and let American hating singers spew their hatred for America in front of a live audience — I forget, “is it the singer that gives us the freedom, or the Soldier.” Hhhhhuuuuummmm....
The high point of the season for me is the draft. The games are fun, but the draft is high-stakes poker.
Lol! I can’t believe someone remembers THAT!
It’s a running joke between my brother and I.
Since the Lions will take it all the way this year, a good halftime show would be Kwame Kilpatrick breakdancing. He should be out of jail by then.
Yeah, that'll go over real well with the NFL crowd. What's next, the Dixie Chix at a NASCAR rally in Georgia on the 4th of July?
... and sounds like it, too!
Going for that crucial over 50 demographic. Probably see a lot of Cialis ads to compliment the music.
If all they had to play were pre-season games they'd be a dynasty.
Way more entertaining than Springsteen.
The Super Bowl is way bigger than just the NFL crowd. It's basically anyone with a TV. I probably watch maybe one entire NFL game per season, but I usually tune in at least for a little of the Super Bowl.
If you're over 50 and still a liberal you need more in life than Cialis.
Springsteen’s name came up a month ago, and the reports were the NFL shot it down because they were concerned that he would use it as a chance to pontificate on his politics. Since the Super Bowl is the first Sunday in February, we will be treated either to (1) smart aleck remarks on how great we are to have elected Obama or (2) smart aleck remarks on why AMerica is a dank and terrible place for having elected McCain. Either way, something must have happened for the NFL to flip a decision like this. Dumb decision.
Separated at birth?
He's a professional and I strongly doubt he's going to pontificate on politics during his halftime show. The NFL has been playing it safe ever since the Janet Jackson fiasco. Springsteen is a prudent choice.
Don’t be so sure. Lots of Republicans still think Born In the USA was a proud American anthem.
“If you’re over 50 and still a liberal you need more in life than Cialis.”
I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right there”
Petty and Prince were actually pretty good. Of course both have actual talent rather than being famous for being “musical poets”.
It's not a matter of liberalism. Springsteen is for old, uptight dorks who think they're still cool because they put on their denim jacket and go have a couple of beers at a Springsteen concert. Lameness for the lame. Politics really has very little to do with it.
