I am proud of so many of my fellow Republicans. This bailout as written isn’t the bill to pass. The American people are overwhelmingly against it, and this bill isn’t the answer. The Democrats are the majority, and have been since 2006 – at which time we started seeing the first signs of our bad economy – they failed to act, they continued spending, big government, no answers, and actually doing NOTHING, and I blame Barney Frank and company et all for where we are today and why. This wasn’t the bill, this wasn’t the answer, and I thank those Republicans who voted against it. The Democrats are the problem, the answer to this is real change. The answer to this is a Republican majority in Congress, and the answer is to have the Republicans write the bill en total, the Democrats are incompetent to solve this and even though the Republicans have a lot to be desired, they are the only ones to write a bill that will even work if at all. So, this will require a Republican sweep in November – the Presidency and the Congress. Then we will start seeing solutions again. I blame the Democrats squarely, and they are the ones pointing fingers but they are the ones who are ruining our nation. They are do nothing, they are failures, Barney and company need to be fired, and the “moderates” in the Bush Administration are seeing the last days, it is now time for a conservative Republican Palin type majority. That is the answer. Thank you Republicans. And now it's time for John McCain to step up and tell America why this bill was bad, and that this wasn't the bill, we need the right answers for America, this wasn't it, and he needs to point the finger right back at the Democrats and tell America how and why the politicians have failed us, and we don't need the same people who have failed us to write the bill to save us. We need to fire them, we need reform, we need a Republican majority.

That's the key phrase right there : Bipartisan OPPOSITION to the bill!. Finally, something both sides can agree upon. Too bad the socialists and those with their hands in the cookie jar aren't on the same page.

I write as someone who favored passage of this bill, but who nonetheless admires and respects the Republicans who held their ground. I’m not sure I’ve ever personally witnessed such cajones. Wow!

And so now I believe that this will result in a far better outcome. Two thirds of House Republicans have proven that they will let the markets go to hell before they sign on to something horrible. And Pelosi has proven that she can’t even command the allegiance of more than 60% of her own MAJORITY party, on legislation that her party wrote. Meanwhile, Obama took credit for making it happen before it actually happened; and so now he must make sure it happens, even if doing so means ceding more ground to the Republicans. Negotiating power has shifted significantly, and the Dems must get legislation through before the end of the week or a true disaster looms. I believe that House Republicans will finally have their say, and get much of what they want. And I am confident that having shown their mettle, they will not give much ground going forward.

The Republicans have said some dumb things, including the statement that Pelosi’s rant caused many Republicans to change their minds. But my sense is that nearly all of the Republicans were opposed from the get go, and that at most a handful of votes changed. Truly, Republicans have exercised extraordinary restraint in this blame game, and I respect them for it.

They need to hold their powder for a bit longer, and then we can assign accountability after the fact. Reserved but resolute!!!!
