Posted on 09/30/2008 5:15:13 PM PDT by Maelstorm
Nothing would make my day more than to see Durbin, Murtha tossed out on their fats asses in Nov
Does he have a real chance ? Duh !!!
Is he pro-life?
He has an uphill battle. The ice has been breaking a bit and Senator Tom Coburn just did a fundraiser for Steve. He also received the endorsement of the Illinois right to life for his work in crises pregnancy centers. One thing is certain is if he isn’t on air with ads he has no chance to win. He will be having two big debates with Durbin so if there is a chance it will be through them and having the money to let people know who he is through election day. I don’t have a lot left to give but I’m going to give $10.00 till I have more. I’ve been giving as much as I can to our Senate race here in Virginia. We can’t give up.
Thanks for posting this reminder for Steve and all candidates taking the fight to the America bashers. Tonight is the FEC deadline. Fundraising numbers will then be gauged to decide which races going forward will get resources, visits, etc.
Sauerberg: A sound byte? There is no sound byte...If you want a sound byte, its 'Im pro-baby, pro-mother and pro-family.'
Long answer: here
I just donated.
I know it must feel pretty lonely, but whatever it’s worth I appreciate all your hard work and dedication to advancing conservative causes.
Before the primary, Sauerberg said that he was pro-choice, and, in Dec., the Illinois Federation for Right to Life endorsed one of his primary opponents, Mike Psak. During a debate, in Jan., Sauerberg said that he opposes overturning Roe vs. Wade.
Sauerberg is also pro-gun control and pro-Hillarycare. Since Sauerberg can’t win, I’ll probably vote for Chad Koppie, the Constitution Party candidate. Koppie is pro-life, pro-gun rights, and anti-illegal alien. His site is www.koppieforsenate.com.
LEARN WHERE THE CANDIDATES STAND HERE:
Steve Sauerberg is a career medical doctor who has no experience or political record for the nations highest legislative office. On the issues, he supports keeping abortion legal, favors gun control measures like the assault weapons ban, pro-gay rights, pro-UN, supports federal involvement in health care, welcomes free trade (even with communist nations), supports tax cuts, favors off shore drilling, is pro-WOT, believe in global warming, opposes the bailout, is vaguely against blanket amnesty, supports the department of education and NOLB, and is open to confirming just about anyone, regardless of ideology.
Chad Koppie is a retired senior jumbo jet captain and farmer who has long been active in politics -- having held both elected and appointed office -- and is well qualified to be U.S. Senator, with a record of proven leadership. On the issues, he is unabashedly 100% pro-life, strongly supports 2nd amendment rights, opposes the gay agenda, strongly believes in U.S. sovereignty, opposes the feds being involved in health care and education, is strongly in favor of tax cuts and spending reductions, favors off shore drilling and ANWR, is pro-WOT, opposes the cult of global warming, opposes the bailout, is clearly against amnesty, and has promised to vote to confirm ONLY originalist and strict constructionist judges.
Which one would you want replacing Durbin and representing us in the U.S. Senate?
Well, they got their wish!
Nearly EVERY stauch hardcore Republican who showed up on Tuesday voted for RINO Steve Sauerberg INSTEAD of voting third party. The (far more qualified and far more conservative) Constitution Party nominee received only 0.5% of the vote. So now that the ILGOP SUCCESSFULLY shoved Sauerberg down our throats, let's see how well he did...
I may be a liberal douchebag who is totally unqualified for the Senate and would vote like Durbin 80% of the time, but it's ALL okay because...
I'M NOT DICK DURBIN!!!!!!!!"
Everyone blindly get behind Dr. Sauerberg, he's ELECTABLE!!! He can BEAT DICK DURBIN!! He's WITHIN striking distance (nevermind the fact there's NO evidence to support this...)
Vote for RINOs, they can WIN!!!
AND THE U.S. SENATE RESULTS ARE IN...
Peter Fitzgerald (R) 1,709,041 votes 50.35% Counties won: 97 out of 102.
Jim Durbin (R) 38.02%. Counties won: 26 out of 102
Alan Keyes (R) 1,476,083 votes 27.94% Counties won: 10 out of 102
Steve Sauerberg (RINO) 1,390,690 votes 27.05%. Counties won: 3 out of 102. (Woodruff, Wayne & Edwards)
See here for proof: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/county/#ILS01map
Yep, thanks to all the freepers who voted for the "electable" RINO, looks like Durbin will be packing his bags any minute now.
Congrats, Illinois freepers. Those of you who voted RINO "sent a message" that having the GOP run pro-abortion, gun-grabbing, activist judge rubber stamper is just FINE with the conservative base. The ILGOP now has nothing to fear from annointing another RINO for statewide office next time. The CP certainly isn't a threat, they got only 0.5%! The ILGOP can run ANY unqualified socialist joke they want and the base will go along with it. Perhaps if the ILGOP runs a candidate even further left than Sauerberg, he'll be more "electable" in the future.
Good thing Illinois Republicans all voted RINO, eh?
Considering all the OTHER polls showed Sauerberg didn't have a prayer against Durbin, I don't suppose it's possible you Sauerberg supportered LIED about Sauerberg's numbers to con freepers into donating to him? Nah.
The really tragic thing is we lost some really CLOSE, competitive races in Illinois because you were diverting attention away from them and talking conservatives into throwing money and time away to help the hapness liberal Steve Sauerberg. Ray Wardingley, with almost NO money, got over 48% against Emil Jones III in the Cook County suburbs (seems there was a backlash from Senate President Emil Jones deciding to install his son into the seat for life). David McAloon really was within striking distance of Careen Gordon, but he struggled for volunteers because you were busy posting vanities to divert conservative resources to proping up the clueless RINO Sauerberg. All those donations to Sauerberg went down the toilet.
I hope you're proud of yourself for wasting valuable Conservatives time promoting this clueless unelectable RINO. Mike Madigan should send you a certificate for helping waste conservative resources in 2008.
Sauerberg won people who are going to vote Republican anyway. Where he failed miserably was getting independants and Reagan Democrats. They voted against him in droves. As I predicted would happen.
Being an unqualified empty suit with no platform tends to do that to candidates.
Turban Durbin would have defeated any of the candidates who ran against him this year. The fact that Sauerberg was the nominee was incidental.
The GOP needed someone who was well-known, with name ID and a fundraising base.
True, but six years ago, the nominee was little known State Rep. Jim Durkin (who was an actual conservative), and the guy ran a shoestring campaign — not even having the funds to run TV ads. He got 38% against Durbin and won 26 counties. Sauerberg ran almost 10 points BEHIND that (getting 29% of the vote) and won a whopping 3 counties.
The bleeding was really incredible. Remember, Alan Keyes was imported from Maryland at the 11th hour and ran a lousy campaign, and he even HE carried 10 counties (and he polled better than Sauerberg in the three counties Sauerberg won) back in 2004.
Just shows you how pathetic a clueless RINO like Sauerberg is, IMO. A decent candidate could have polled at least 40% against Durbin.
ILLINOIS U.S. SENATE RACE RESULTS
2002: Durkin (R) won 26 of 102 counties
2004: Keyes (R) won 10 of 102 counties
2008: Sauerberg (RINO) won 3 out of 102 counties
2002: Durkin (R) 56.12% - WON
2004 Keyes (R) 50.52% - WON
2008: Sauerberg (RINO) 47% - LOST
2002: Durkin (R) 53.49% - WON
2004: Keyes (R) 50.01% - WON
2008: Sauerberg (RINO) 45% - LOST
2002: Durkin (R) 58.47% - WON
2004 Keyes (R) 56.51% - WON
2008: Sauerberg (RINO) 52% - WON
Durkin (R) 62.79% - WON
Keyes (R) 59.96% - WON
Sauerberg (RINO) 54% - WON
Durkin (R) 55.82% - WON
Keyes (R) 54.26% - WON
Sauerberg (RINO) 47% - LOST
Voters didn’t know jack about Sauerberg or Koppie.
As you no doubt know, Illinois has changed demographically over the past 15-20 years. Chicago now dominates the state, as downstate Illinois has declined both economically and demographically. A lot of Chicago liberals have moved into the suburbs to escape the consequences of the policies they helped install. Illinois has attracted a lot more leftist types. Many conservative Republicans in Illinois have moved away or died.
There are similar trends in New York and California.
Voted for Chad Koppie. Thanks BillyBoy, for making me wise toward the Sauerberg campaign's caginess. While I wouldn't breach this during the campaign, it's time to air out the dirty laundry.
What really ticked me off, I agreed to conduct veterans outreach on behalf of the campaign. After all, I'm a life member of Veterans organizations. and held many positions of responsibility in veterans organizations.
After coordinating with the appointment book keeper at the Lombard office in early July, we booked Dr. Sauerberg as a VIP speaker for the American Legion Department of Illinois Convention.
Surprisingly, Neal Sauerberg calls me back, not to thank me, but yells at me for booking Dr. Sauerberg without Neal's permission. Then abruptly cancels Dr. Sauerberg’s speaking engagement.
Cancels the most important speaking engagement of the campaign season! Reaching thousands of Illinois Veterans, who might influence many more in their community, in both writing and casual conversations and in one shot?
From that point on, I believed the Sauerberg for Senate campaign was simply a reelect Durbin sideshow.
I know you switched sides during the campaign, and I'm glad you saw the light. I believe Dr. Sauerberg was token "opposition" and was slated to give Durbin an opportunity to coast to re-election without breaking a sweat. It's no secret in Illinois that the state Republican Party chairman, Andy McKenna, is a longtime friend of Senator Durbin and his family has had a personal history of donating to Durbin. For Andy McKenna to personally endorsed a completely unknown candidate (who has never held office) before the primary, and use all the party resources to ensure Sauerberg won the GOP primary, was simply unprecedented. Sauerberg lost my vote back in Feb. when he refused to meet with any conservative groups to answer questions about where he stood on the issues and arrogantly referred to himself as "The Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate" (before he had won the nomination) as if the other Republicans who filed didn't exist.
I'll also go one step further and mention that I do believe some paid Sauerberg staffers (not you obviously) were specifically working to con conservatives and divert their money and resources towards Sauerberg's campaign (knowing it was not viable) to take attention AWAY from staunch conservatives in COMPETATIVE racs who needed help. As I noted, Ray Wardingley ran neck-and-neck with Illinois Senate President Emil Jones (D) in the suburbs, after Jones announced he was retiring and was going to install his unqualified son to his seat for life. Ray was the first challenger Jones had in about 20 years, and got around 48% (running in heavily DEM suburbs) with a shoestring campaign and no volunteers. That was a race where we could have gotten the upper-hand, if Ray got as much attention as Sauerberg got.
Durbin had a decent opponent 6 years ago, State Rep. Jim Durkin, who had no money and got 38% of the vote statewide, winnning 26 counties. No one would give him the time of day in trying to promote his candidacy online. Compare that to Sauerberg who had "volunteers" working day and night to post endless vanities about how he was "within striking distance of Durbin" (even though every poll showed the opposite, that he was 30 points behind), and then begged conservatives to send him money with no questions asked about who he is or where he stands on the issues. Chad had a look at Sauerberg's campaign and concluded Sauerberg was a disaster who would lose every county in Illinois (close prediction: Sauerberg won 3 out of 102, which is 7 less than Keyes got in his 2004 campaign for U.S. Senate in Illinois that had been cobbled together a month before the election). It also speaks volumes that Maelstorm is nowhere to be seen on this forum to answer these allegations, after hyping Sauerberg for monthes.
Also, now that the election is over, I will point out how it's unfortunate that Chad only got 23,000 votes statewide after he got nearly 20% against George Ryan a decade ago. I was a volunteer for Chad and sadly, only about 4 of us on the campaign did our job. Chad's webmaster let his website sit for months without an update, after Chad and everyone else on the campaign called endlessly about what material needed to go on the webpage. Chad's vote total of 0.5% will just embolden the combine to run more RINOs. The 1.4 million Republicans who voted for Sauerberg may have thought their vote would help "beat Durbin", but all it did was tell the IL GOP that it's fine to run liberals and the party base will rubber stamp them.
Greetings Billy Boy:
At this point, it’s time to begin organizing for a conservative to re-take the Senate seat left vacant by anointing the Zerobama.
Correct me if I’m wrong here. It is time to start recruiting a genuine conservative GOP candidate to seek the Illinois Senate seat, for a 2010 Senate victory. An ardent base organized early. Model the RonPaul organization strategy without a kook message; and our conservative wins the primary despite whoever the Country Club RINOs pick as their next token GOP challenger.
This Illinois seat is ours to lose should we nominate another RINO. Frankly, we can almost count upon Governor Blow-dry-bitch’s appointment of a pro-abort fill-in-the-blank that at least 1/2 of the Illinois ‘Rats are guaranteed to dislike.
