McCain turns irritable, sarcastic in interview
AP via SFGate ^ | 10/10/8 | MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer

Des Moines, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate John McCain, once renowned for his jocular sessions with journalists, appeared irritable and at times sarcastic in an interview in which he defended running mate Sarah Palin's experience and campaign ads critical of rival Barack Obama.

Meeting Tuesday with the editorial board of The Des Moines Register, McCain was asked why he picked the Alaska governor, someone "who doesn't have a lot of experience."

"Thank you, but I disagree with your fundamental principal that she doesn't have the experience," McCain replied before citing Palin's work as a PTA member, city council member, mayor and governor. "You and I just have a fundamental disagreement, and I am so happy the American people seem to be siding with me."

When it was suggested that Palin's lack of experience worried voters, McCain turned sarcastic.

"Really? I haven't detected that in the polls, I haven't detected that among the base," he said. "If there's a Georgetown cocktail party person who, quote, calls himself a conservative who doesn't like her, good luck. I don't dismiss him. I think the American people have overwhelmingly shown their approval."

I don’t see anything sarcastic about McCain’s responses. This little nancy-boy leftist “reporter” is just a little too sensitive.

AP’s nose is out of joint.

Apparently they think they can attack McCain and Palin every day and still get “jovial” interviews out of their former friend.

“Just shut up and take it, McCain. With a smile!”

McCain would be better off refusing to answer questions based on logical fallacies. Liberals can’t do anything but emote, so it follows that they’re constantly begging the question.

McCain planned to return to Washington to vote on the bill...

Let's hope he lives up to his reputation as The Maverick and votes NO!

This is getting completely deranged.

The Dems have a candidate that has virtually no executive experience at all and the idiots nominated him as their presidential candidate.

This is nothing but bald faced sexism and the barking pressholes think they get a pass at it because they are liberals.

This is the old "when did you stop beating your wife" gottcha question the idiots in the press think passes for "smart" journalism.

"Senator, can you explain why you chose someone utterly unqualified to be president?." If McCain took the question at face value, then the asshat in the press would writeup the story as "Today, Senator McCain defended the choice of his unqualified V.P. pick, Gov. Palin."

He should make a commercial putting it to the public that questions why the press questions Palin’s experience level and never questions the 127 day wonders level of experience. He should tell them to ask bama that question.

I guess a community organizers experience is considered higher than a sitting governors. (gang members are community organizers too!)

Actually I've been waiting for Mr. McCain to release his ‘inner cranky old guy’ self. Enough of the nice-guy uncle routine. Admittedly this is probably the best route to go to win over the squishy middle - since the left and right have already entrenched their positions - but I'd still like to see him flame some of these mediatards...

Each and every time the "experience" issue is brought up about Sarah Palin, the response should be, "She's got a lot more experience than Senator Obama."

No explanation is needed beyond that.

The facts don’t fit the quote. This reminds me of the AP’s story about the execution of Jose Medellin about a month back and how if you read their take on events, Jose was a victim who didn’t deserve to die and had an aunt who said, “he was a good boy.”

Then I wiki’d the crime’s actual details and wish that skinning someone alive was a legal punishment in the US.

You can’t trust the media to tell you the truth anymore. Their ranks are infested.

I think the press is trying to keep McCain from going on the attack mode by calling him irritable, etc. He is most effective in attack mode, but the press knows he is most ineffective in the nice mode, so they want to try to punish him for going into attack mode to make him think he is doing something wrong. Hopefully, he does not fall for this trick.

My running mate, Governor Palin, has more executive experience then the top of the opposition's ticket

Why is that so hard?

Neil Boortz had McCain’s econmomic adviser on this morning and he said that after this vote today that the McCain camp was going full on after Obama and the dems roll in this mess. I only hope it’s true. People will soon forget about this vote and the things that come out closer to election day will stick.

McCain just needs to say that Palin has more experience than Obama. Say this over, and over, and over.

Then if pressed by what he means, say “Obama starting running for President after only 100 days in the Senate. Sarah Palin on the other hand had already accomplished leadership work in a variety of fields including the governorship of the largest state in the union.”

McCain needs to give more interviews like this.

He needs to slam the press every chance he gets, and slam them hard.

He needs to make Spiro Agnew's attacks on the press look like the work of a Boy Scout in Sunday-school.

Look at the fast one they just pulled by putting Gwen Ifill in as the moderator of the VP debate, even though she's got an ObamaSlober book coming out in November, and didn't bother to tell the McCain campaign about the blatant conflict of interest.

The press is a disgrace, and Americans are angry.

McCain needs to tap into that anger and let rip.
