Eduardo Verastegui Talks about Obama, Saving Babies Outside L.A. Abortion Clinic
LifeSiteNews ^ | 10/1/08 | Anita Crane

Posted on 10/01/2008 3:56:17 PM PDT by wagglebee

Los Angeles, October 1, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Saturday, September 27, the Mexican superstar of Latin America, Eduardo Verastegui, and several of his friends joined the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign outside Family Planning Associates, an abortion business at 601 S. Westmoreland Avenue. He went there for two reasons: to help mothers and their unborn children, and warn people about the number-one abortion celebrity, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).

Verastegui is cofounder of L.A.-based Metanoia Films and lead actor in the company's first feature film, Bella (http://www.amazon.com/Bella-Eduardo-Ver%C3%A1stegui/dp/B0014...), which premiered in American movie theaters last October.

Until November 2, citizens of 179 cities in 47 of the United States and the District of Columbia are participating in 40 Days for Life (http://www.40daysforlife.com), peacefully praying outside abortion locations to end the holocaust. In the Canadian cities of Ottawa and Halifax, pro-lifers are publicly praying as well.

Armed with a rosary, Miraculous Medals and DVD copies of his latest production, Dura Realidad (Hard Truth), Verastegui and his friends approached seven women as they stood in line to enter the aforementioned abortion office.

John Anthony Hernandez, coordinator of 40 Days for Life Los Angeles, witnessed Verastegui's talent and skill. He said, "The words just seemed to flow from Eduardo and his companions who showed them the pro-life film, Dura Realidad, and directed the mothers to the LAPS [Los Angeles Pregnancy Services] center for help. He also handed everyone a Miraculous Medal and told them the beautiful story behind the medal and God's great love for us."

Verastegui told the women that he did not judge them. He said he knew they were suffering and he cared about them, but they were not alone. Verastegui warned that abortion causes sterility, and breast and uterine cancers. He said, "Now you're making that decision, so let me just share with you what they don't share with you inside. For example, I was at an abortion clinic that in the last three years more than 12 women - young ladies - have died. They don't tell you that."

Verastegui explained, "I was counting all the women lined up for an abortion. It was all Latinas and African Americans. And I said all I want to do here is to share with you a video on the hard truth about what is going on inside [that place]. And ya know what? By the grace of God, four babies were saved this morning."

At http://www.DuraRealidad.com, Verastegui appeals to his people in Spanish. He inquires, "Did you know that minority children are being aborted at more than double rate of white children?" He tells why abortionists target Hispanics. Then, introducing the segment showing abortion victims, Verastegui says, "Perhaps you question whether it is necessary to show a video like this, and my answer is the same that they give in schools about showing movies of the Nazi holocaust … [Teachers] show them because the Nazi holocaust represents a terrible evil that words alone cannot describe." In conclusion, Verastegui discusses how Barack Obama's "inhuman" policies would endanger everyone if Obama is elected president.

CNA TV provided English subtitles and posted the video on YouTube.com, minus the victims segment. Soon Verastegui will release an English-language version of this video.

He said, "Most of the registered Latinos who are voting are voting for Obama. Why is that? He doesn't represent our values: respect for life, traditional marriage or even immigration reform.

"Americans and people around the world need to know about Obama," Verastegui continued. "If he is not going to defend the most innocent, then who is he going to defend? If someone is not willing to take a risk for the most innocent, which is babies, what can I expect from that person? He will not defend me. He will not defend you. That's what inspired me to put something together.

"I want people to know the truth about Obama," said Verastegui. "And I pray to God and I don't judge anyone, but there is objective truth on this issue: It is wrong and we need to make sure that everyone knows [abortion] is not a subjective thing. It's never okay to kill an innocent person."

As Americans say, Verastegui puts his money where his mouth is. His foundation Manto de Guadalupe builds homes for the poor in Latin America, and helps mothers in crisis there and in the U.S. Verastegui is alarmed that nine abortion centers exist along just one mile of L.A., so he will open a pregnancy resource center among them.

He said, "You wanna hear something really, really funny? Here's what happened at the end. All the nurses from the clinic - some were African Americans, some were Latinas - came outside." The next thing Eduardo Verastegui knew, eight nurses wanted someone to take pictures of them with him. Instead, he gave each nurse a Miraculous Medal and his DVD. They didn't want to watch his DVD, but promised to do so simply because he requested it. He told them, "I'm going to be here next Saturday and we'll take a picture next Saturday." Then the security guard confronted him, asking, "What are you doing here?" Verastegui countered, "What are you doing here, my friend?"

After our conversation, Verastegui left for Bella premiers in Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama. Bella is also scheduled for release in Brazil, Hong Kong and Spain.

On Saturday, October 4, look for Eduardo Verastegui with the Los Angeles contingent of 40 Days for Life.

But Waite, there's more. FV, on most accounts she looks just fine, except that she somehow got the situation with Terri bass ackwards.

............................

Just days before the Aug. 26 primaries, her husband of 30 years, Harvey Waite, died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

~Snip~

"I am not a rabid Republican who never deviates from party philosophy, and that is why I get independents voting for me ... because I am voting for what has to be done," she said in August.

She broke with the Bush administration on the Terri Schiavo case, saying the removal of feeding tubes was a decision to be made by the family not the federal government.

She broke ranks with her party to support a minimum wage increase and other issues. She still has an 88 percent voting record by the American Conservative Union....

Our friends and neighbors up north face the same grim adversary as we do. Thanks, FV, for the tip. It comes at a time when the Saint Andreas fault inter alia may split off the entire left coast into an island of death. From Arnold living out his role as Terminator in Kalifornia to the northern tips of Washington State, people are dying to make it a reality. If the election cycle runs wrong, they will get plenty of help from the Obamunists and add obamacide to their bag of tricks. Mercifully Halloween ends before voting day.

Speaking of "obamacide," this creature from the dark recesses of death loving adds amplified meaning to the word, "infanticide." And, recall, he publicly called a survivor of an abortion despicable. Presumably the poor person had a duty to die under the watch of his new crews of brownshirts. Gee, do I sound like I don't like BO?

........................................

Such is the case with the issue of Barack Obama's position on legal protections for infants while an Illinois state senator. In a nutshell, the controversy comes down to a claim from Senator Obama that he would have favored the bill in the U.S. Senate that he opposed while he was an Illinois state senator. More specifically, at issue is the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (BAIPA), which gave "human" legal status to infants born alive accidentally following an abortion. The federal version of the bill passed the U.S. Congress easily, with abortion-rights supporters like Hillary Clinton in the Senate and Jerald Nadler in the House voting in favor. After Obama left the Illinois Senate to run for the U.S. Senate, the Illinois version of the bill flew through that body 52-0. The bill, both the federal and state version, passed unanimously in the U.S. Senate and Illinois Senate, both in Obama's absence........

Following on to the upthread post on the left coast, is a report from Washington State before it gets St. Helened again. To the death loving lefties, "Death with Dignity" means this:

George Felos saw beauty in such horror as Terri Schiavo suffered the prolonged and painful "death with dignity". Thread by wagglebee.

.............................

The "death with dignity" measure, Initiative 1000, sets up a way for a terminally ill person to order a lethal dose of drugs. Make no mistake: This is assisted suicide. It is a grim decision, and many may think it a wrong one, but we believe it should be the right of the terminally ill to decide for themselves....

In this thread by markomalley, we see how profound can be the effect of an election cycle gone bad. Underwhelmed as I was at the prospect of a feeble McCain facing this menace, the light got much brighter with the unintended consequence of Sarah Palin emerging. Yet the menace looms and as the mask peels back each day, we see this greatest of threats to our America growing with support of an insane wad of media jumping up and down in glee, praying for the downfall of the country they hate.

If we really think we could keep this incipient dictator in check, we would lose at the first instance in the appointments to the Supremes. Thanks, narses, for the ping.

Again on the Supremes... a thread by Daffynition, with thanks to narses for the ping.

..........................

WASHINGTON — The next president will tip the courts, one way or another. Supreme Court openings are all but guaranteed, and that's just the start: 44 trial and appellate federal judicial vacancies already await filling. There will be more.

Consider this: President Bush has placed 316 judges on the bench during his two terms. One out of three federal judges now owes a lifetime-tenured job to the current president. Whoever replaces Bush will be likewise recasting courthouses, top to bottom.

"The proper role of the judiciary has become one of the defining issues of this presidential election," Republican presidential candidate John McCain said in May. "It will fall to the next president to nominate hundreds — hundreds — of qualified men and women to the federal courts, and the choices we make will reach far, far into the future."

In truth, many polls suggest, relatively few voters consider the federal judiciary a defining issue. But those who do care, care a lot.......

Next president will reshape U.S. courts from top to bottom

CINO evil:

Another example of CINO's look like...

....................................

PITTSBURGH, October 6, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Franciscan University has emphatically disowned the views of Dr. Nicholas Cafardi, a prominent, avowedly pro-life Catholic legal scholar and Franciscan University of Steubenville trustee who recently justified supporting Obama saying, "We have lost the abortion battle." According to Cafardi, the next president of the United States would "not be able to affect abortion very much."

Cafardi, a law professor and the former dean of the Duquesne University Law School, is considered an expert on canon law, has spent thirteen years as the general counsel for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, and three years on the board of the Canon Law Society of America. According to the InsideCatholic.com blog, Cafardi is the second high-profile Catholic jurist to endorse Obama - the first being Prof. Doug Kmiec, the former Dean and St. Thomas More Professor of The Catholic University of America's law school.

Last week, Dr. Cafardi published an editorial in the National Catholic Reporter (NCR) saying that although he is "staunchly anti-abortion," he supports pro-abortion presidential candidate Barack Obama.  "I do not support him because he is pro-choice, but in spite of it. Is that a proper moral choice for a committed Catholic?" asked Cafardi rhetorically.

"I answer with a resounding yes."

The editorial argues that Cafardi's choice is justified because the "list of what the church calls 'intrinsically evil acts' does not begin and end with abortion," and Catholics have room to consider the candidates' respective policies on such issues as torture and racism.

Cafardi said he firmly believes that "we have lost the abortion battle permanently," and since electing Sen. McCain to office could not completely eradicate abortion, voting pro-life is a lost cause.  Cafardi also stated that overturning Roe v. Wade would make no difference in the number of abortions that take place.

Further, Dr. Cafardi claimed that "there is a difference between being pro-choice and pro-abortion," and that Obama is simply the former.  Obama "supports government action that would reduce the number of abortions," he said.

Cafardi does not mention Obama's avowed support of the "Freedom of Choice Act," which would eliminate all legal restrictions on abortion. Instead, Cafardi cites Obama's dedication to "avoid unwanted pregnancies" as proof that he is not pro-abortion. Obama's support for contraception, however, is also considered intrinsically evil by the Catholic Church.

"I have used my prudential judgment," wrote Cafardi, "And I conclude that it is a proper moral choice for this Catholic to support Barack Obama's candidacy."

Franciscan University of Steubenville's office of public relations released a statement soon after the publication of Cafardi's article, rejecting any affiliation with the personal views of Dr. Cafardi, who is a member of the University's Board of Trustees.

"Franciscan University stands with the Catholic Church in its opposition to abortion as an intrinsic evil and violation of the sanctity of human life. The University does not believe the abortion battle is lost, but that the tide is decidedly turning in favor of life," wrote the University.

"In keeping with the Church's guidelines, Franciscan University does not endorse any particular political party or candidate. It does, however, strongly encourage its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other constituents to view the life issues - such as abortion, euthanasia, and the protection of marriage and the family - as foundational, and as issues that do not lend themselves to the prudential judgment of the voter." (To see Franciscan's full statement: http://insidecatholic.com/Joomla/index.php?option=com_myblog...)

Last Wednesday, Franciscan students criticized Cafardi's views when they attended a "Catholics for Obama" event at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, where the Sisters of Mercy read a paper defending Obama that Dr. Cafardi had intended to deliver.

About fifteen sisters and three priests were at the event, and one witness told InsideCatholic.com blogger Deal Hudson that at one point a priest "urged everyone in the crowd to report any priest to the IRS and to the diocese of Pittsburgh who preaches from the pulpit that you must vote based on one issue."

After one Sister of Mercy finished reading Cafardi's paper and opened the floor to questions, several audience members openly challenged the message.  As it turned out, at least half the attendees were pro-life McCain supporters, including the thirteen Franciscan University students.

The Inside Catholic blog related the story of one student who insisted on speaking, despite being ignored by the nun taking questions. "He insisted on asking her what she thought about Obama saying his biggest political regret was trying to save Terri Schiavo's life," reports the blog.

"The sister dismissed the question saying she didn't know what he was talking about. He responded by saying, 'Well ,sister, it certainly surprised me because I would have thought he could have used the opportunity to say that supporting infanticide in Illinois was his biggest regret.'  That clearly infuriated her, and she said that not only did Obama not support infanticide, but also that he was being brainwashed by propaganda.

"This same nun also grabbed him by the arm immediately after the talk and said very sarcastically, 'Have a nice drive back to Steubenville!'"

This Wright is right. I hope it all spills out.

Thread by wagglebee.

.....................................

Wright indicated she has heard rumblings about the possibility of Senator McCain criticizing Obama for his votes against the bills for medical care for babies who survive abortions -- which have earned him the ire of pro-life voters.

"The most obvious example that we expect to come up in Tuesday’s debate is the Born Alive Infant Protection Act," she said. "John McCain should explain in clear terms why he voted for this federal law, and Barack Obama should explain why he voted against a state law that was identical to the federal law.".........

SPRINGFIELD – Catholic Communications interviewed Springfield Bishop Timothy A. McDonnell recently about why Catholics are called to be pro-life. Bishop McDonnell has made the respect life issue a priority in the diocese. He said he hopes to inspire people to get involved to help save the lives of the unborn, and to reach out to mothers, fathers and families affected by the tragedy of abortion. He also emphasized there are other components to the pro-life debate...........

......................................

In recent weeks Catholic politicians have wrongly asserted the nature and history of Catholic teaching on abortion, confusing it with philosophical theories based on pre-modern biology. In various statements Catholic bishops and theologians have refuted these claims that Catholic teaching regarding the evil of abortion has evolved (it has been the same since the first century), AND, that life's beginning depends on when ensoulment takes place (modern embryology and genetics knows exactly when every human life begins, at conception). Below are statements and resources on this controversy, so that Catholics are not deceived about Catholic teaching on abortion, or, when human life begins....
