The Greatest Media Bias Scandal Ever?
10/2/08 | The Fop

Posted on 10/02/2008 6:59:38 AM PDT by The Fop

I've been an FR reader since 2002.This is my first vanity post.

For months, conservatives have been complaining about the unprecedented favoritism that the media has been showing Obama, which goes well beyond the normal amount of favoritism that the media shows towards Democrats during an election year. But we need to take a step back and realize that the media's reluctance to pin the blame for this financial crisis squaurely on the shoulders of the culprits who are responsible for it is not just part and parcel of the their desire to help Obama get elected. It is a scandal unto itself that makes Rathergate look like small potatoes. And it's time for popular and respected conservative pundits to go way beyond making snarky comments about media bias and frame it as such.

People can argue about whether or not we're on the verge of another Great Depression. But the consesus amongst economists across the political spectrum is that this is the most serious financial crisis that the country has faced in a long, long time. The fact that people are being forced to tune into YouTube, FoxNews, conservative talk radio and the blogosphere in order to hear the truth is criminal.

This is an issue that is much more serious than John Edward's affair or John Kerry's purple heart medals. This is an issue that affects the whole country. We're talking about people's assets, their homes, their life savings. If Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Chuck Schumer, Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson were Republicans, they'd already be as infamous as Joe McCarthy, G. Gordon Liddy, and Kenneth Lay. The American people deserve to know the names of the people and the details that are responsible for this crisis.

I know that conservatives are disheartened by current election polls. But we've got a full month until the election. Instead of flailing away at all the different stories that the media is ignoring in regards to Obama, we need to put some serious focus on this particular issue.

Conservative pundits and bloggers need to hammer away at the fact that this is potentially the greatest media bias scandal ever. If we do this, we could not only succeed in defeating Obama, but we could bring down the Old Media once and for all. That would be quite a two-fer. The media's credibility is already at an all time low. Let's finish them off for good.

Who's with me?

Take it up with the FCC if you think that their broadcast licenses could be harmed by their actions. I most certainly think that the CBS affiliates should have been severely repremanded over the airing of the forged national guard memos and the continued insistance (even to this day) that they may have been fake but portrayed an accurate account of Bush’s activity.

There are two factors in the media bias argument. One, the Karaoke Media Machine is fully in the tank for Barry. The second issues is he paucity of reporters who will whether death threats to speak out on the embargoed story of Larry Sinclair and the persecution by authorities to protect a presidential candidate. Can’t have it both ways.

Yellow Journalism has existed in past elections. And the press had a role in seeing that Nixon was brought down. They never went after LBJ for his thuggish actions as President. The man even bought off the Houston Chronicle’s editors by permitting a bank merger to go through (and held a signed letter as insurance).

We’re all with you.

Problem: How do you correct this?

TV stations, by attacking their broadcast licenses. Get them shut down for violating the terms of their licenses.

Newspapers. Not much you can do short of boycotts of the paper and their advertisers.

This is much more systemic than just this election. The communists have over-run our institutions, just as Gramsci suggested.

BIG Ping here. I believe the people involved wanted to deliberately bring down our economy to crush us politically. We could be seeing the beginning of the “Liberal Fascism” government of which Jonah Goldberg speaks in his book of the same name. These people will stop at nothing. I was scared witless the other day when Chuck Schumer was saying he wants to eliminate all term limits. Parenthesis - including the presidential term limits. They want to appoint a president for life. I have always suspected as much since Gore tried to tie up the elections in court.

Mccain is now the face of the party he either raises to that level or he does not, he for all practical purposes has the bully pulpit, he has two remaining debates, if he cannot hammer (or is unwilling to play hard ball politics) the facts as they are not being reported by the left leaning media will remain unreported.

this is more about Mccain than anyone else.

How we correct this NOW is by volunteering to work for McCain and Palin.

This will be harder than sitting in front of our computers and arguing and waiting for TV ads to appear or signs to sprout up.

We must do this. We cannot rely on others, and we are the best line of defense against the disinformation being spewed by the media.

Us.

I'm with you. I propose this as a strategy. Each day, take one issue, make a snappy little blog post out of it, go to the local newspaper blogs in several swing states, and plaster it all over the place.

If it gets out there enough, the MSM will be forced to play defense on the issue.

Newspapers have blog sections under practically every article these days which get as many or more readers than their print editions. What's stopping you from going there and making some noise?

There is something that can be done:

The big money from the right needs to use their capital to purchase a news media outlet (print and television). Since the business model for radio is so good, then it should bleed over to the others. Rush and company (Hannity, Coulter, Beck and Ingraham) should take their money and offer to buy whichever network (I can’t remember which one) that is owned by GE - their stock is in the tank. That purchase would allow GE to focus on their core business and improve their bottom line. True capitaliam at work, but I know that will never happen.

Excellent point.

I've been studying media bias since the Carter Administration. Being a quick study, it only took me a year back then to internalize the lesson of the AIM report that in fact the media are biased. And to begin my quest for an understanding of exactly why. It has taken me another three decades to reach the point where I think I can make a pretty strong analytical case for why we should have expected that, and should never have considered any other possibility to be serious.

The Right to Know presents my explanation.

"And it's time for popular and respected conservative pundits to go way beyond making snarky comments about media bias and frame it as such."

M. Savage does this all the time. Rush talks about the media bias but I wonder if he sees it as more than just blatant bias? Bias is one thing, but the media have been throroughly infiltrated with people who literally detest Christianity and traditional American family values, as well as traditional government. Those who would become career politicians are of course profoundly aware of this phenomenon and hence run for office on an anti-American platform; this is what gives them credibility in the media, which tranlates to VOTES. In other words, the Marixists whom Joe McCarthy era Americans saw "behind every bush", really were behind every bush. They own the media, and in general they own both public and private educational institutions. That's all they needed to capture America from within, just as Marx wrote. So it's not media 'bias', the media are literally a Trojan Horse for the enemies of America.

I watched Obama give his talk on the Senate floor last night. I also watched older Senators that were listening and it entered my mind that they, basically, had to be ashamed that this young punk, with only 144 days on the Senate floor, was telling them that he had all the answers. Especially to those that had 10, 20, 30 years in the Senate. Have they no pride at all?

This sounds very negative, but...should Obama win, the extreme left will own everything with no checks at all. That's the danger we're facing. Regardless of what a new Socialist Regime does, the media will report it in a positive manner, doing what they're told.

Two things I would like to see talk radio do.

*Start broadcasting on FM.

*Start offering an hour or more of their show as free podcasts.

Right now they are too loyal to AM, which cant reach through many walls, and almost require you to be in front of the radio at the time of their show, in order to hear it without having to get multiple paid subscriptions.

And yes, a broadcast news program is a MUST.

I recall reading here that Matt Drudge felt that the larger story on the Clinton/Lewinsky affair was not the affair itself, but that the media had the ironclad story and chose to spike it, initially.

Not until Drudge reported it and it spread like wildfire on the internet was the MSM forced to address it.

Drudge wanted, but didn’t get, the Lewinsky scandal to be about the spiking of stories. That story, unfortunately, got spiked.

What a great first posting of a topic! Well written and full of good common sense.

You bet I will help hammer this issue every chance I get....the failure of the media to point out HOW this has happened has led to a genuine lack of knowledge and a lack of a frame of reference for many of the folks in our nation.

Media bias, the failure of the MSM to investigate and share with America the roll congress played in this horrific failure (and the benefits some congressmen made, ie MONEY, by failing to regulate fannie mae and freddie mac is JUST AWFUL!

Americans deserve to know the full truth NOW-not later! ...

TO UNDERSTAND a problem fully, especially a huge problem that can impact each and every American on very personal level- we must lay out the facts that are known so the this can be avoided in the future and THOSE RESPONSIBLE must be HELD ACCOUNTABLE!!

Our press corp is keepiong us in the same limbo the propaganda of HITLER kept his nation in...by OMMISSION they keep the folks they like safe and keep their fellow Americans IN THE DARK!

It is up to us to open the window and let in the light! Ane we are under a time crunch to do it.

Problem with the blog sections is that they take down anything that has criticized them directly.

I have placed posts in the blog sections of many newspapers where I criticize the premise of the argument, the sloppy reportage and bias. They last for a few minutes before they get taken down. I am polite and articulate, but firm and direct, and use citation for support of argument. My posts last five minutes, or less. All it takes is a liberal knucklehead to flag as inappropriate, and it’s gone. My account gets banned.

its really quite simple

1) get some paint that washes off with a little effort.

2) remove the license plates from your car.

3) Paint the word “NO” on the sides of the car, the trunk, the hood, and the top of the cab...in very large white letters.

4) Drive it onto a very busy part of the freeway in any major city to a location visible from the opposing traffic, and between two overpasses that are close enought for cars to see.

5) Get in a center lane (ie lane 2 of a 3 lane freeway) put on the emergency flashers and gradually slow down and then park as indicated.

6) Roll up the windows, paint the inside so no one can see into the car.

7) curl up on the front seat, read a book and wait.

8) refuse to co-operate with any efforts to leave the car or move it.

9) Shut down the economy for real.

I’ve read it before, I just read it again, and I’ll say it again-that is the most commonsensical explanation of what is happening, of the convergence of what has and is occurring with the left and journalism, and now the entire media, that I have seen. Exactly on point. What’s bad is that I see no way of stopping it. They know they’re in control now more than ever, they can afford to be more blatant and openly biassed now more than ever because they know their agendas are coming to fruition.

Do the same thing Perot did in ‘92...info-mercials.
Only 55% of eligible voters cast ballots that year. Perot got 17% of them! Even though he had proven himself to be a raving lunatic!
Let McCain read 28 minutes worth of verifiable items, connecting all the dots. Let him teach the electorate on any number of issues, without the constraints of moderators, opponents...whatever.
Have the Republicans take their case directly to America. Then, in the next debate, he will have set the agenda. Anytime he faces the press, they will be forced to bring up these issues.

Yes, exactly right. It's not bias anymore, it's open cooperation. They infiltrated media, academia, government on the local and national levels, and more. I believe finance was one of the few bastions left they haven't openly and completely controlled, and they're getting close on that.
