I got this email from my school district (I'm on their listserv for school closings etc.) proudly announcing the appearance of Senator Obama at the high school stadium tomorrow.
The entire senior high is invited along with the public.
Isn't this highly inappropriate to alter the regular school schedule so students and teachers can attend a political campaign event?
And why was I notified using the usual conveyence of "real" school news and information to parent? Why was I notified at all?
I think the school district is overstepping its bounds and acting like a shill for the democrat candidate.
I've already express my displeasure with the school superintendent and have informed my commissioner as well.
What else can I do?
call your local school board and ask.
No need to read the release...the answer is yes.
Sounds like an endorsement letter to me. Call your local McCain campaign office, or GOP headquarters and see if they care. If they do, they should have the legal resources to officially complain.
Also if there is a popular local conservative radio station, they may be interested.
Does a bear do his business in the woods?.............
I think it is disgusting. Are they (YOU?) paying for it? What poop. I’d call Talk Radio in the area and the Republican Headquarters, etc. Surely, legally, this is inappropriate.
Wait, did that ever stop O?
Call the Superintendent. Have the Republicans call the Superintendent. Boy, I’d be FRIED.
Does your local school district show partisanship toward Obama?
There's not one that doesn't.
.
McCain and Palin were supposed to hold a rally at a high school in Fairfax, VA last month but some lefty NoVA parents and the media had a hissy fit that a “public” school was being used for a campaign. They ended up holding the rally at a park instead. Needless to say, Obama has made numerous appearances at schools and nobody has said a word. You should definitely raise hell over this.
get in touch with the school board and the republican office nearest to you
They are interrupting school lessons, they are suing kids as a back drop to get bigger crowds.
If nothing comes of it then tell the school you are taking your child out at the time it is due to start and also tell other parents about what you are doing so many more kids can leave the school
no way should your children be used as a backdrop and no way should the school be used as a political forum
THIS CRAP HAS TO STOP, brainwashing kids , the teachers union telling teachers to wear blue and get their message out.
GOOD LUCK AND DO NOT GIVE UP AT THE FIRST PHONE CALL
School means teachers, which means Teacher’s Union....which means we SUPPORT LIBS!!!
“The event is free and open to the public.” Open to the public during normal school hours! Even though they ‘extend’ an invitation to McCain, this sounds like something that shouldn’t be allowed.
8 years ago Algore came to Grand Rapids speaking at the exact same location that the Messiah did today. At the end of the speech, I counted 50 that is right 50 school buses driving by me with kids.
I have no problem allowing the HS Seniors that are graduating be allowed to go, IF they choose to. They maybe voting next month, so they would deserve an opportunity to hear The Messiah or McCain if they were in their local town.
Freshmen to seniors are invited.
I think this stinks to high heaven.
Is this Abington, PA??? If so, that’s my old alma mater of 50+ years ago. Sheesh. I remember when Penna was solid Republican. What a shame.
Go to it and protest! Do what you can to show your viewpoint, just make sure you do not break any laws.
Definitely call talk radio! I’d be raisin’ a sh!t storm!
Thier CYA is at the bottom of the announcement:
“Please understand that the Abington School District Board Policy permits use of district facilities for political events in a presidential election as long as the event
includes a candidate or a family member, and expenses are paid by the campaign. Senator McCains campaign has been extended an invitation to use the facilities, as well. This event complies with the Board Policy and the use of district facilities does not constitute endorsement of either candidate by the Board of School Directors.”
At the end it says that Senator McCain’s team has been extended an invitation to use the facilities as well. Now, whether that’s true is hard to tell. Just two-three weeks ago, McCain’s team was asked to move their venue from a school because they’d gotten too many complaints from parents that a political event was going to interrupt the school day. I can’t remember if it was a school district in Virginia, or which exact state it was in. The McCain team moved the event to a larger facility.
Register your complaint with the school board, pull your kids from school that day, and have them protest with you on the sidewalk. Get any like minded friends to do the same. Make sure local TV and radio know you are there and why. That’s about all you can do.
Oh, and remind the school board that you and your friends know how to vote when they come up for election.
