"Longtime Democrat Toby Keith is registering to vote as an independent and says the left wing's verbal attacks against Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin could lead to a win for John McCain in November, the singer-songwriter said Thursday (Oct. 2) in an interview with CMT.com."
"I've been a lifetime Democrat, and I'm re-registering this year as an independent," he said. "It's strictly [because] my party, that I've been affiliated with all these years, doesn't stand for anything that I stand for anymore. They've lost any sensibility that they had, and they've allowed all the kooks in, so I'm going independent."

Thought he came out as an Obama supporter. Is he now saying he’s changing?
Yay!!!
They've lost any sensibility that they had, and they've allowed all the kooks in, ...
“Keith also cited erroneous headlines and reports in the media indicating that he supports Democrat Barack Obama.”
LLS
My mother and step-dad are voting for McCain and they are Democrats..
Wow, common sense has hit.
Better late than never.
Ha ha ha......he’s been ditsy chited and it’s hurting his sales.
sorry Toby but it’s too late now
Toby it is about time you woke up.
I hear a ton of stories of democrats voting mccain. Where are these unwashed masses who are going to bring it home for the big ZERO? Where are they?
I think the Drive By Media needs to quit calling their own newsroom when they are doing their polling.
I can certainly believe that a lot of life-long Democrats are realizing the truth. I have several friends who are Jews and have voted Dem all their lives, and are voting for McCain - Palin this year. It’s not hard to believe that Toby might have belonged to the Democratic Party for many years, for good reasons an honest person might, and then realized that the Democratic Party has turned into something ugly and un-American.
He’s been hanging with the Nuge. Ole’Teddy finally talked some sense into the boy.
I sure hope so ...
His record sales must have dropped when it was reported that he was supporting Obama.
I thought this guy was the Anti-Dixie chick?
I always saw him defending the war and President Bush.
This is news to me.
Does anyone really give a rat’s arse who this man supports?
“Who let the kooks in... who ? who ? who ? who ? who ?”
“Who let the kooks in... who ? who ? who ? who ? who ?”
Toby did come out for Obama. Now he needs to publicly state his new position.
If I get taxed anymore,I’m going to have to reopen my whorehouse and run it by had because I can’t afford to pay the taxes.
I didn’t read the whole thing but from what I saw he was “impressed” with him.
I was impressed the VERY first time I saw Obama speak as well. However, I knew he was a Dim and that he would be exposed soon and here we are today.

I guess not. I’m just surprised because that’s not the picture I had in my head of Keith.
No I really care at all.
Okay Toby........now lower the beer prices in your bar!
This guy sounds like one of that old, dying breed of Southern Democrats that you can still find here and there. They’re for the Democrats because of FDR and LBJ and the New Deal and the Great Society, because they see the Rats as the party of the “little man” and the Republicans as the party of “the rich.” It’s a populist thing; they go for the Rats on economic issues, even though these Southerners are very socially conservative. Well, what they’re seeing is just like he said—the Democrats have become unhinged, they’re taken over by liberal urban elites and radicals. They don’t give a flying damn about small-town Tennessee or Pennsylvania or Colorado anymore, it’s all about New York and Los Angeles and Chicago and San Cramcrisco.

No he’s saying he’s not been an O supporter but that because he had some positive things to say about him, the media cherry picked his comments (is that something new!) and made it appear that he’s supporting O. To paraphrase one of my favorite Toby songs, “I love this man - he’s my kind of guy, whoa I this this man!” (For you non-lovers of country music, the true lyric is I love this bar, it’s my kind of place)
It there a Freeper discount?
Yes, and the more we openly call them what they are, the more American's will understand this problems from within.
I will say this, I am not swayed by celbrities and their opinions, but Ted Nugent is one man I truly respect. This man will tell it like it is.
sorry, celebrities.
I remember Henry “Scoop” Jackson, Hubert Humphrey, Harry Truman — I knew the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party was a friend of America. The Rat Party is no Democratic Party.
In other Breaking News: Eddie Money ran out of toilet paper yesterday.
Always loved Toby Keith, always thought he was “one of us,” even though he’s a lifelong Democrat. I guess I likened him to be a Zell Miller-type of Democrat. It’s nice to see that he has seen the light.
Also, Toby Keith supported President Bush in 2004, and donated money to the RNC in 2006.

Toby has always supported the war, and even more so the troops. I have seen Toby and Ted Nugent both in Iraq performing for the Troops, glad to hear he has changed his mind.
Somebody buy a beer for Toby and his Horses. We need all the help we can get.
“Keith said he will probably vote for McCain because Palin is his running mate.”
Toby, I gotta tell ya brother — I loved you and the music you wrote right after 9/11 and I bought all your stuff...especially when you were fighting with that little kook from the Chicks with...., I mean Dixie Chicks...but when I found out you were a Dem...I stopped buying your albums — It was that simple. I always thought your music was always more in line with what the right represented/represents than the left. It baffled me how you could possibly vote dimwit.
You show up with Governor Palin at a couple of events, sing American Soldier and Angry American — help Pete Hegseth out at Vet’s for Freedom (http://www.vetsforfreedom.org/) and I’ll buy your last two albums.
...and he does a great deal for the troops. Toby Keith is a great guy at heart, the Democrat party left him.
“they’ve allowed all the kooks in,”
Ha! Hate to tell you this, Bub, but the kooks have been there all along.
Exactly. This is SPIN....
He clearly was supporting Repubs prior to this. He played for Bush in 04. He donated to Bush in ‘04. But when backlash from Hollywood hit at him, he started with the “I’ve been a lifelong Dem” crap. And tried to play it down the middle.
Now he must be catching heat from his base which is 100% conservative.
Yes. Now if we could just get liberals Faith Hill and New Jersey Tim McGraw off the kool aid.
I think that attacking Keith at this point is really kind of cynical. I honestly don't think his music sales have much to do with his politics, but his image. Merle Haggard did fine, so did Johnny Cash without being as Super Conservative.
Unfortunately, that ain’t going to happen.. Those two are pretty hardcore lefties.
But Toby was always a conservative, just trying to play it down the middle. But the story of him supporting Obama caused so much backlash (with his 100% conservative base) he was forced to make it clearer who he’s supporting.
I have followed keith’s politics pretty close since ‘01 when he started getting heat from the left for his ‘Angry American’ anthem.
He was clearly in Bush’s tank, playing rallies for him, donating to him. Then in ‘05 or ‘06 when his Hollywood career was moving forward and the war and Bush becoming unpopular he started with the “lifelong Dem” talking point to get cover in Hollywood. This worked for a while until the sotry about him backing Obama.
That’s the only point I’m making. I am a huge Keith fan.
OH MY GOSH!!! wow!!! That pretty much nails it down tight. Good for Toby Keith. He still owns his mind and conscience.
“Ha ha ha......hes been ditsy chited and its hurting his sales. Sorry Toby but its too late now.”
Toby Keith isn’t a wingbat.
“We’re at war with the terrorists,” he said. “And that if we don’t try to do something about it, then it’s gonna keep happening here until some of our freedoms are lost.”
