Meifert says Republican vice presidential candidate is a pawn chosen to be manipulated
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCains controversial choice to be his running mate on the Republican ticket this year, will be in Dallas on Oct. 3 for a fundraiser, and Dallas activist Dawn Meifert is organizing a protest outside the hotel..
A day after the vice presidential candidate debate with Sen. Joe Biden, Democratic nominee Barack Obamas running mate, Palin is scheduled to speak at a $1,000-a-plate lunchtime fundraiser at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Dallas. Dallas County Republican Party Chair Jonathan Neerman told The Dallas Morning News he hopes Palin will also agree to appear at a public event while she is in town.
Palin is known as a staunch conservative and pro-life advocate. And her record on LGBT rights puts her at odds with the LGBT equality movement.
Although she vetoed a bill that would have kept the state from offering domestic partner benefits to its gay and lesbian employees, she did so only because the Alaska Supreme Court had already ruled the bill measure unconstitutional. She later supported an effort to amend the states constitution to prohibit those benefits.
Palin has also said she opposes same-sex marriage and passage of hate crimes legislation. And her former church, Wasilla Bible Church, recently sponsored an ex-gay program designed to help people overcome homosexuality, although Palin has not said publicly where she stands on such programs.
Meifert said this week that the protest she is organizing would focus on Palins anti-gay and anti-choice stances.
I am just on fire over this election, Meifert said, explaining why she had decided to organize the protest. It just appalls me that people would be willing to have four more years of the same...

Palin is perceived as a threat again, since they didn’t succeed in destroying her. The left is despicable.
Kinda funny, really. Like it’s going to do Sarah any harm in Texas.
Yet another good use for duct tape. Covering Dawn Meifert’s yap.
I love when they whine her “former church”. I wonder what’s going on over at Barack’s “former church”?
This person has obviously, for some unexplainable reason, mistaken HER for presidential candidate B. Hussein Obama.
Are there any Dallas freepers who can do this? We really do need to hold a protest against these "protesters".
According to last night, so does Biden. But then who knows what he position will be today.
ooops he - his
Oh yeh..the North Tx Freedom Rally Freepers are there today!
Dang it! I don’t even get the Dallas Voice.
I never heard of the Dallas Voice.
Well, it can’t be MUCH worse than the Dallas Morning News.
I’m in Irving and not in good enough shape to take down a big lesbian girl so I guess I won’t make it over there.
Altura, I just posted on another thread how I wish I could be there to counter-protest, but I am about 30 miles north of downtown today. Oh, and the Dallas Voice is the queer paper.
Better go get a culture taken......
“Sarah only PWN in game of life.”
It would be better to join them as agit-prop!
People and candidates are judged not only by their supporters, but by their enemies.
The left has no ideas that decent people support.
To defeat them, simply expose who they really are.
Not everyone waiting outside was friendly.
A group opposed to Ms. Palin's tough stance against abortion was on hand to protest.
One of them, Dawn Meifert, a Barack Obama supporter, said sarcastically that she was there because "we thought it was our duty to give her a nice Southern welcome."
She added: "I'm a polite lady. I thought the Democrats of Dallas should let her know just how welcome she is here."
Ms. Meifert didn't share the buoyant assessment of many Republicans regarding Ms. Plain's performance in Wednesday's debate.
"She looked good," she said, "but she never answered any of the questions, did she? Biden did really well. America got to see a real emotional side of Joe Biden."
At Love Field, the Republican dignitaries who greeted Ms. Palin were in a festive mood.
Some expressed relief that the vice presidential nominee was a "hit" at Thursday night's debate with Mr. Biden.
"If she fell on her face, we would have had a wake in this room," said Jonathan Neerman, chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party.
"Instead, she's renewed the energy we had coming out of our convention."
