Just saw the first showing of An American Carol; was expecting it to be pretty funny. Actually it was laugh out loud hilarious! And a good positive message, too! I urge you to see it.
As you could tell from the ads, Kevin Farley plays a Michael Moore-like director, Michael Malone. He is recruited by some terrorists to make a training film. He is haunted by ghosts such as JFK, Gen. Patton (Kelsey Grammer), the Angel of Death (Trace Adkins), and George Washington (Jon Voight). Washington shows him the church he used to pray at when New York City was the nation's capitol. Across the street...Ground Zero.
JFK shows him how we should "pay any price, bear any burden" for freedom. Patton shows him war is sometimes necessary--if we hadn't fought the Civil War, we might still have slavery!
The film shows us "the Real America" and the price we have to pay for freedom. There are tons of sight gags and physical humor (think Three Stooges, or the "Airplane" films director David Zucker gave us). The film spoofs A Christmas Carol and shows the folly of Malone trying to ban July 4th. Can he learn the error of his ways?
Anyone who enjoys "Airplane"-like humor will surely like it. (And stop calling me Shirley.) I wonder if libs will attend (after all, that evil Bill O'Reilly is in this...one scene shows Malone and comic "Rosie O'Connell" appearing on O'Reilly's show--and "O'Connell" unleashes a hilarious bit about Christian terrorists. Yes, we wouldn't have to go through airport security if those priests hadn't hijacked those planes!
I am thinking about bringing some of my kids this weekend to see it, but I am very careful about what they are exposed to in movies and TV. Can you tell me why the movie carries a PG-13? Was there any swearing? How about sex/nudity? (I assume that there is no violence to speak of. If there is and it happens to the Michael Moore character, that would be ok.)
Oh, and there’s the protest rally where Malone can’t stop the protesters from chanting insipid slogans! Chanting insipid
slogans! Chanting...or the Col. Univ speech where Malone is
to speak, only he’s upstaged by professors who reveal why they spread their lefty politics to their students: so they can relive their glory days of “1968”! (Think “Hair”...)
I was going to ask the very same thing. Love to take my daughter with me.
My guys are camping with the scouts this weekend...and I’m going to see this! Thanks for the review!
GO SEE THIS MOVIE, HOLLYWOOD REVIEWERS ON RT DID NOT EVEN RATE IT ON THEIR SITE....THEY ARE TRYING TO SQUASH US.
What makes this movie PG-13? Is it just cussing? Or is it sex stuff? I’ve got an 11 and 14 year old daughters I’d like to take. I don’t trust the rating systwm.
Thanks for the review. My wife and I are planning to see it this Sunday. Freepers, if you want to see more conservative-themed movies coming out of Hollywood, buy a ticket for An American Carol, and hopefully it will be a big success.
Going in about an hour and twenty minutes. I’ll buy ten tickets, if there’s any left :-)
Thanks! I really, really need a good giggle :)
Going with the whole family on Saturday. Thanks for the review.
Rush was talking about this movie in the first hour of his show today. He urged people to go see it because a lot of people have their necks stuck out on this movie. Should it flop, some conservative people in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera might have trouble working in the future.
Needs to get on Pay Per View. In the boonies, we won’t get it in our theaters til 2010.
—the S-word and the A-hole word do pop up (the latter
by a kid, actually)
—one scene has two terrorists—who are afraid of getting blown up themselves—in a men’s room stall and the noises they make are mistaken for 2 gay men having sex. (”You have to pull it, here...”)
other than that fairly clean —cleaner than most movies—
and it’s worth it for the message. Take your kids and, well,
“parental guidance is suggested”.
Go to Movietickets.com and buy the tickets whether you can go or not.

This site shows the first 10 minutes of the movie:
Wait for the very end of the ten minutes. The language is a little rough but is a riot anyway.
hopefully you will get it—I think it was supposed to be in 2,000 theatres or so. I saw it in Blue Country, Danvers MA
(though I will admit here on the North Shore of Boston I do
see some McCain/Palin stickers, lawn signs..._you never know)
...they’re trying to defuse a bomb...
A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion pictures single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.
Hey, I’m in Elko, Nevada, and it’s on the marquee this morning.
Nope. No conspiracy here. The director, Zucker, didn't release an advance copy to reviewers. He knew it would be a pointless exercise!
An American Carol
1 hr. 23 min.
(PG-13), for rude and irreverent content, and for language and brief drug material
I’m going to see this tonight...can’t wait.
Going tonight just to p*** off the libs...might even buy a couple extra tickets I don’t need. Hope it has a great box office weekend and drowns the “W” and Bill Mars’ piece of cinematic crap!
Hey liberals: The truth hurts.
Oh sure! Not as much as jumping onto a bicycle with the seat missing, but it hurts!

This movie is anti-american
Wow, so the guy that wanted americans to have better health care is evil
Wanting decent health care is anti-american?
My goodness! They really tapped into the B + C-list pile of crap actors
Michael Moore films will always have a greater impact than this.
This actually is propaganda
.....but patriotism is as dumb as religion.
This Will Be Awesome
(HOW DID HE GET IN THERE?)
Review: ‘Easily one of the worst films of the year.’
Do republicans really think this looks funny?
TALENTLESS NEOCON HACKS MAKE A MOVIE
this is going to be the worst film in history
Yeah, I think there isn’t a review yet in the (mostly
conservative) Boston Herald. Jim Verniere, one of their
reviewers, is probably gonna hate it anyway. He loves
It’s been a long time since I was a cub scout but I think they can handle the first ten minutes I saw. They’re not babies.
Here's a really good reference site for movie and tv ratings. Gives you a detailed analysis of potentially offensive scenes in categories such as sex/nudity, violence, religious etc.
Since there was no advanced screening they don't have a review for "An American Carol" yet, but they said it will be up shortly. Still, if you're concerned about what your kids are seeing it's a great reference site to bookmark.

Just came back from American Carol. Good movie. On the way there saw a group from “Rolling Thunder” on the road. Fine Americans.
I’m taking my gf’s sons and my LITTLE BROTHER (Big Brother volunteer here) to it tonight. It looks funny!!
hopefully will be approved and will stay up but at least there will be some positive remarks, etc.
In the past I’ve gone onto amazon.com and given good reviews to books like “Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man”
It’s really funny. I was laughing so hard. It’s just as good as the first Airplane Movie and the first Naked Gun film. I went with about 10 people here and they all loved it.

Yes Jay Severin is 3-7 pm on WTKK FM 96.9 and they streamcast
Glad you asked about kids. I want to support this movie by taking the whole clan Sat night. I know the little one won’t get much out of it but the popcorn, but he’s easy. I wanted to make sure it’s OK for older elementary age too. I rented that animated one once (can’t think of the name but the one with Kim Jong Il “me so ronery”) and was shocked at the language, etc.
Can’t wait to see it! I LOOOOOVE Kelsey Grammar.
yeah that one was from the south park guys, “Team America
We got a babysitter (another mom from our special needs catechism class), and we’re going. It’ll be the first time we’ve gone to the theater in years.
Saw the flick and it was AWESOME!!!
It was very un-politcally correct, so the far-left will be all sorts of crying and whining about it!!!
Definitely, a must see movie!!!!!
yeah they’re going nuts about it—condemning it as unfunny
and propaganda—at IMDB.com. My positive review, and a lib’s negative review, had shown up but for some reason reviews
are not showing up on the site at all now(though messageboard posts are there)
I am jealous.
I am going to see it tonight, then tomorrow will go see FIREPROOF, another Conservative choice for us to see.
Oh no, the guys (hubs and kiddo) are off to scouts. This is going to be MAMA’S NIGHT OUT!!!!
haven’t had one of those in a while!
Must see this over the weekend
