Dems worry Bush could pardon Rove, Miers By Susan Crabtree Posted: 10/03/08 12:55 PM [ET]

Democrats are worried that President Bush may pardon Karl Rove, Harriet Miers and other key administration officials alleged to have played a role in the firing of nine U.S. attorneys.

Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), who chairs a Judiciary Committee subcommittee, expressed concern Friday that Bush pardons on the final day of his tenure in the Oval Office could cut off any chance of former White House officials being forced to testify before Congress about their role in the U.S. attorneys' removal in 2006.

The Department of Justice (DoJ) Office of Inspector General (IG) issued a report Monday that found substantial evidence that the federal prosecutors were fired for improper political reasons. Attorney General Michael Mukasey subsequently appointed Connecticut federal prosecutor Nora Dannehy to investigate the IG’s findings.

Earlier this year, Democrats filed a lawsuit challenging the Bush administration’s assertion of executive privilege to shield current and former White House officials from congressional subpoenas related to the firings.

Well, pardon me, but Obama will certainly pardon Raines and Johnson if elected. To insure that his administration gets off to a fresh start. And the media will applaud his decision, as a means of putting the past behind us so we can have a better future.

“And pardon the border patrol agents as well!”

That assumes he didn’t push their prosecution which Clinton did not.

As a message to the Border Patrol to underenforce.

Texas plutocrats understand an open border decreases wages and increases their short term profit margins.

Neither was Nixon, but he was under investigation. A pardon couldn't have stopped impeachment, but resignation did that.

Democrats don't need evidence to convict someone they don't agree with. In their minds Rove is guilty because Bush beat them twice.

Have any of the Democrat charges and investigations of the Bush Administration resulted in a conviction of anyone other than Libby? And that was for not pulling a Clinton by claiming he couldn't recall.

Bush the worst POTUS since the founding of the republic.

Except for Clinton, Bush I, Carter, Ford, Nixon, and Johnson, he is the worst president of my lifetime.

And maybe Eisenhower... I don't really remember him.

He is a better president than either Kerry or Gore would have been.

I'm not happy with a lot of what Bush has done, but the positive things that have happened with the response to 9/11, the tax cuts, the two conservative SC justices, etc., can't be denied. That kind of hyperbole is absurd.

Would some Dem please at some point say what the crime in this situation could possibly be? I mean, where does this investigation lead? Let’s say they find a smoking gun, a video tape where Bush looks into the camera and says “I’m sick of these guys not pursuing the cases I want them to and doing their own thing! Alberto and Harriet, I want you to fire them all for totally political reasons! Okay everyone, go do it!” what crime do they purport was committed?

This is the darkest day in the history of our republic.

And if you supported this bill and have a complete undwrstanding of it than you are no better than Bush.

Make no mistake, we have all just been made slaves to the government. We are no longer a free people. Soon we will be paying taxes to the UN.

Bush is a worthless POS.

Agreed--even when Pres. Bush screws things up, he's doing a better job than Gore or Kerry would have, or Obama will if he gets elected.

I'd also rate GWB more highly than Kennedy, who was a pretty mediocre President who made errors that cost us dearly after he was dead...but he did give some inspiring speeches.

Like the immortal "I am a jelly donut" speech...

And maybe Eisenhower... I don't really remember him.

Eisenhower was a highly skilled executive who, like Ronald Reagan, made it look easy; and who for reasons of his own was content to let the media portray him as a 'do-nothing' president.

Later biographies told the real story, that he was wide awake at the wheel and had his hand firmly on the throttle the entire time.

-- XX-Pres Clinton fired every U.S. Attorney there was and not a peep out of the MSM. --

To compare the number of United States Attorneys replaced by Presidents Clinton and Bush when they took office, one can use the nominations search tool, searching for the string "United States Attorney" (exact match only), and limiting the search to cases where the legislative action was "Confirmed by Senate." Here is a summary of the raw number of US Attorneys confirmed in the last eight Congresses:

The funny thing is, the MSM noticed when Clinton (AG Reno) fired all the US Attorneys shortly after Clinton took office, but they DIDN'T notice when President Bush (AG Ashcroft) did exactly the same thing!

Linda Sanchez hasn’t been in Congress long enough to have gotten a Judiciary Committee position.

She cheated to get voted into office with illegal intruders voting. It took Bob Dornan over 2 years to prove ballots were cast that were from illegal voters, but he couldn’t get her “victory” overturned.
Sanchez is on thin ice to be hollerin at anyone over what may or may not be wrongdoing, IMO.....
