I posted this so you could get a feel for what's going on in China. Some people compare China with India, but going by what I see here - China is WAY ahead.
China is a threat of a different magnitude than the Soviet Union. China has a rapidly growing middle class and is making serious investments in infrastructure:

I've did a couple of biz trips over to Dalian and its growth is amazing.
Of course this thread is going to pi** quite a few folks off.
But thanks for the pictures...;)

Why would it be amazing when you get more freedom, you get more prosperity?
The Chinese just approved short selling in their stock markets as market discipline measure.
China is more free market than the US.
Every time something has gone wrong in China, they did themselves out by going even more free market.
The opposite in the US.
Slaves, socialists, serfs do not produce efficiently.

Oh yeah, China is a regular old bastion of freedom. Forced abortion, toxic waste dumping into products both edible and inedible, slaughter of any opposition.

I didn’t say they were. I just said that every year, for the last thirty, at least, they have been getting more free, or less un-free. Unlike us, which was my real concern.

I think we’re becoming more similar but what’s good for them isn’t good for us.

One thing's for certain, China's communist in name only. Communism never produced that kind of prosperity and it never will.
What we're looking at in China now is pure fascism.

Yes, and that is what we have.
We are allowed to have property, but it is in service of the state and the state's goals. And if you are influential in the one of the two major exploiting factions, the state's goals, can be your goals.
If you are not hooked up with one of the two factions, then they both can extract from you.

No, what we have is something different. Yes, it's a long way from the constitutional republic the framers intended for us, but it's still not the fascist police state that exists in China. It's more of an oppressive welfare state. It's a long way from being free. We no longer enjoy a real right to bear arms or to be secure in our possessions. We are taxed at a level that resembles serfdom and our lives are far too regulated by an oppressive bureaucracy, but that's still not on a par with forced abortions, imprisoning people for disagreeing with the state and being ruled by unelected thugs.
One reason I never was a supporter of a flag burning amendment is that I can easily envision a time when that flag will represent oppression and slavery and when that time comes, I will burn it too, just like our founding fathers burned their flag when they were British subjects. Of course, when that time comes, you can bet that the liberals will have banned it since come that time the flag will represent them.

Dalian is different from the other Chinese cities. Dalian is like Hong Kong and Macao. Dalian was build up by Russians 100 years ago. Then Japanese went on building up the city. So Dalian is also called “Dalny” by Russians and “Dairen” by Japanese. Of course, Dalian came back to China at last, before Hong Kong and Macao.
