RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A suspect was shot and killed during a robbery attempt near NC State Thursday night. Eyewitnesses say the owner of a local store opened fire as he was being held up around 9 p.m. Thursday The incident happened at Tienda Hispana Mi Barrio II on Western Boulevard near Clanton Street . Jose Jimenez, the owner's nephew, says his uncle shot a suspect who was trying to rob his store. Two other suspects fled the scene. According to the owner, he observed three Hispanic males enter the store. He said they appeared suspicious so he watched them closely. A female employee was also in the store at the time, but there were no customers. At least two of the suspects had guns and one of them pointed a handgun towards the clerk. The clerk and one of the suspects fired at least one shot each. One suspect was struck and died at the scene.

Over time I can’t help but notice that these stories come from red states - usually the Southeast, South and Southwest (excluding Kalifornia of course).

The Northeast Corridor either has no cases of guns being used for justifiable reasons or the media squelches most/all stories. I wonder....

Several effects come into play here.

First, many of the Northeast Corridor states have horrible gun control laws in place that make it very difficult to have a firearm when you need it to defend yourself. Massachusetts passed a highly restrictive law a few years ago, and the number of people with firearm permits dropped by 75%! New Jersey and New York are even more restrictive.

Second, The “Justice” systems in those states is often hostile to self defense. The person who shoots in self defense can easily end up in jail or lose their entire life savings in defending themselves in court. This has a “chilling effect” on people using a gun to defend themselves.

Third, We still see stories of armed self defense from those areas, but, as you observed, the local media is often very hostile. A self defense shooting may be described as “Teenager shot, mother grieves”, instead of “Home Owner Defends Family, Shoots Intruder”.

New Jersey and New York are even more restrictive.

Case in point....

NEW YORK STATE Gun Laws - SLINGSHOTS

Upstate needs its own state.

Banditos! The reporter in the video reminds me of Cher. Thieves, thieves, tramps and thieves.

Why, oh why, do reporters use the phrase, " A robbery gone wrong " ?

WTH ? If they had robbed and killed the store owner, would they have said it was a robbery that went right?

I guess the dead perp will be sent back to Mexico or whatever hellhole country he came from.

Wait, where is the quote from the robber’s family member, where we are told how he was just starting college and had decided to turn his life around??

Third time's a charm. I recently posted a similar story about a shop owner out in California.

He'd been beaten in one robbery, shot at in another. The third time, he shot and killed a robber.
