DFL U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken has moved into his first solid lead over incumbent Republican Norm Coleman, according to a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll.
The survey, conducted Tuesday through Thursday by Princeton Survey Research Associates International among 1,084 likely Minnesota voters, shows Franken leading Coleman 43 to 34 percent. Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley is supported by 18 percent of respondents.
Frankens lead is outside the polls margin of sampling error, plus or minus 3.7 points.
For Coleman, there is little good news in the poll. The number of voters who view him unfavorably continues to grow, the number who see him favorably is falling, and his job-approval rating has slipped to 38 percent his lowest ever in the Minnesota Poll.
Coleman led Franken by four points in last months Minnesota Poll.
The new results stand in contrast to the findings of a SurveyUSA poll, commissioned by KSTP-TV and also conducted this week, that shows Coleman with a 10-point lead over Franken, 43 to 33 percent.

This is not good news. If we get Obama in the White House and the likes of Franken in the Senate, it won’t be long before laws are passed criminalizing conservative speech. Not long after that they’ll start setting up the gulags.
I can’t believe that Minnesota could accept the like of Franken in any elected position, not even dog catcher.
Al Franken. Proof positive that democrats really are stupid and Americans don’t really take politics seriously anymore.
Unbelievable. Minnesotans don’t even want a moderate-liberal like Coleman as their senator, they would rather have a socialist novice. Folks, the Republican brand name has been soiled by the neocons. We need to regroup and kick the charlatons out. The Republicans need to be the conservative choice, not merely an echo of the Dems.
Disregard this poll. Take a look at the Survey USA Poll that has Coleman up by 10.
Hear is a creaton who could not even be a good comedian running for elected office, I think many in Minnisota need an enema!
Minnesota proved their seriousness when they gave the world Jesse Ventura.
Did Coleman vote for the Bailout Bill?
...Just one of those things that make you go "Hmmmmmmmmmmm"
I thought I remembered seeing this poll.
Yeah, exactly!!! And it was just a day or so ago, IIRC.
Doc: did I read that the strib is considering bankruptcy? This sure sounds like they are turning tabloid to amp up sales.
I believe we are going to get a chance for just such a purge. As of yesterday, I have given up hope that Osama is going to be defeated. Let the bloodletting begin.
This poll is absolute crap, garbage, Coleman is up in every recent survey, including Survey USA which has him up 10 during the same period. Didn’t this same newspaper publish a poll around this time in 2002 showing Fritz Mondale with a 10 - 15 point lead over Coleman? I think it did.
If Al Franken gets elected to the SEnate, I will DESPISE the people for being too stupid to care about whatever happens to them.
Never surrender, Marine!
Then, as of yesterday, I have given up being interested in your defeatist drivel.
Let the bladderletting begin.
Unbelievable!!! What the hell is in the water in Minnesota?
It’s a bunch of bs.
You beat me to it.
Every other poll has Coleman up by around 8-10.
No wonder the Minneapolis Star and Sickle is losing readers and is flailing financially.
Maybe a better way to put it would have been “I have come to believe...”
