NRO Article - Stop the Deregulation Canard
NRO Online ^ | KFAT

Posted on 10/04/2008 7:23:05 AM PDT by KFAT

It is essential to the future that we not let the Democrats get away with this "deregulation" canard they have pulled out post the Paulson-Pelosi bailout. The subprime mess was a direct result of an unsupervised and corrupt government program. Yes, private actors got involved, and yes regulators were not as effective cops on the beat as they could have been, but core of the problem was fannie and freddie, not "deregulation". We must win this argument for the American people.

Do you think you could post the actual article and title, instead of using it as a platform for a vanity post? The vanities are getting way out of hand.

You can’t win the argument when the leaders of “our” side don’t argue for our side. The president is nothing but a big government get along.

It's pathetic the way the Republicans handled this golden opportunity to:
1. paint the Dems as the corrupt thieves that they are
2. expose them as being a big-boy club taking millions and covering up for one another
3. expose the failure of regulation and oversight and to show how it can never be trusted
4. expose how socialism leads to economic disaster.

Instead, they caved and signed away 700 billion dollars, gave a golden carpet to thieves, let the free market take it up the rear by commies, and probably gave away the White House.

CRA is a law that regulates how and why mortgages are made.

That law failed to protect the market for homes and mortgages.

The fault is over-regulation.

Absolutely right!

“Instead, they caved and signed away 700 billion dollars”

The time for “Standing” has long passed, and Repubs DID try to stand up and shout about it, MANY TIMES.

For thier troubles, they were IGNORED by the Msms, and called everything up to and including RACISTS. And a largely enemy media is what is REALLY killing us.

The RNC has videos out, RIGHT NOW, making all the connections between the Democrats and the current financial crisis.

They also have one out that makes ALL the connections between Obama and the Chicago Rezko corruption, and the current trials going on there.

Have you seen them anywhere but on FR?

Of course you haven’t, because the largely leftist media refuses to cover it. It isn’t “Newsworthy” if it involves a DEMOCRAT. Now, if it had been a REPUBLICAN! (we all know how this ends...

It’s been a PROPOGANDA WAR, one that we have largely LOST, because our side likes to stick to things like FACTS, and TRUTH, and that simply doesn’t matter anymore with today’s media.

When a Major US network (CBS) has the balls on the morning after the VP Debate to spend a whole 8 seconds on soundbites, and end by saying that “Biden won convincingly by a 2-1 margin”, IGNORING everything that happened, and Biden’s 22 OUTRIGHT LIES, you know we’re screwed.

If the GOP does not hang this around the democrats neck, the GOP will lose. It was caused by a bad liberal democrat program, implimented by Fredie Mae, Fredie Mac, the Community Investment Act, banking regulators, and liberal democrats. If the GOP really got this out, they could take the house and senate. It can be done. The MSM could not stop it.

I thought Sarah was great in the debate.... but why does the McCain campaign keep perpetrating the same lie that deregulation was the problem when over-regulation giving forcing banks to give loans to people unable to pay it back was the problem.

This is very disturbing and does not bode well for the future of Capitalism. We need a champion and it ain’t McCain.

Because there was not just one problem. Fannie and Freddie precipitated the crisis. However, the unfettered and unregulated spread of new derivatives that magnify risk are what is turning this into a full-blown crisis, along with the corruption of the rating agencies, yet again a failure of regulation. McCain can only win by properly painting this as a collective failure and offering an approach to deal with the entire issue. And you can't do that if you deny half the story.

I agree with you that there were multiple problems. However, I would expect that every time the bad deregulations are blamed that government corruption and bad regulations should also be talked about. Otherwise, only the “we need more regulations” side of the story comes into play and that leads down a road to more bad regulations, and socialist policies.

That’s my displeasure with the RNC. They rely on the MSM to communicate their stance and opposition. It’s like hiring cat burglars to guard your jewelry box.

They need to get creative. They need to use talk radio more. They need to use the Internet. Did any rep from the RNC post to the FR asking for backing, offering to distribute literature? No. They sit on their hands, protest to the MSM and then whine that the MSM is biased and burying the story.

GET THE GODDAMN WORD OUT THROUGH ALTERNATIVE MEANS
WHILE WE STILL HAVE THOSE ALTERNATIVE MEANS!!!

“Did any rep from the RNC post to the FR asking for backing, offering to distribute literature? No”

They used to...

Tony Snow was a famous FR poster, and there have been others...

The Immigration Wars thing that cost us 2006 started the exodus, and I believe others left during The Great Giulianni Purges of last year.

(I wasn’t involved in that.)

Plus, FR has been labeled as a “HATE GROUP” by many on the left now, and current Republicans can’t afford to be painted with that brush, as the media would CRUCIFY them for it. (While DEMOCRATS that are associated with HATE GROUPS, like Obama, have nothing to fear from that same media!)
