ALL THE elements were present: the individual stories told by real people of their situations and hardships, the packed-to-the rafters crowd, the crowd's chanting of key phrases and names, the action on the spot of texting and phoning to show instant support and commitment to jump into the political battle, the rallying selections of music, the setting of the agenda by the power people. The Democratic National Convention had all the elements of the perfectly organized event, Saul Alinsky style.
Barack Obama's training in Chicago by the great community organizers is showing its effectiveness. It is an amazingly powerful format, and the method of my late father always works to get the message out and get the supporters on board. When executed meticulously and thoughtfully, it is a powerful strategy for initiating change and making it really happen. Obama learned his lesson well.
I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday.

Long term lynch pin is to make them start showing exactly how money spent has improved the situation. Point to how much of the money went to line the pockets of organizers and how much to whatever the problems was which the money was meant to address. Mostly we allow the assumption that money will solve the problem. All they do is talk about money for this program and that one. They worship money. We need to work hard to see if the money=solution assumption is accurate and demand accountability as well as show what other solutions that work better are available.

uh yah, i would think it would be way important. Obama when connected with acorn, claims only the best of intentions. This not only ties him with acorn, but ties him to the radicalism of the obama camp in a way difficult to wave away.

This letter did come out at the time of the convention- but it’s impact wasn’t felt much because we had the RNC convention so soon- then Palin etc. At this point- since McCain seems somewhat willing to start nailing Obama- and with the rampant corruption of ACORN finally getting SOME mainstream coverage re: sub-prime mortgages and voter fraud- it seems important to show the connection between Alinsky tactics and Obama’s close association with ACORN.

Hannity is doing a show tonight (Hannity's America) exposing Obama's "friends". Hopefully Alinsky's influence will also be revealed since "Rules For Radicals" is Obama's bible!
He's not a household word for most people. Of course, folks here have known about Alinsky since the early Clinton years.
