Ex-Headmistress Sues Oprah for Defamation

Oprah Winfrey is being sued by the former headmistress of the Big O's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, according to People magazine.

The civil lawsuit filed by Nomvuyo Mzamane claims that Oprah made defamatory comments to the media implying that Mzamane is "untrustworthy, failed the students of the academy, did not care about the students at the academy, knew of alleged physical and sexual abuse at the academy and participated in a cover-up of the alleged abuse."

A scandal broke out at the school in October 2007 when another female staff member was accused of physically and sexually abusing students. That trial resumes Oct. 8.

Mzamane, who says she knew nothing about the allegations, was ousted in November 2007 and says she hasn't been able to find comparable work since.

She is seeking to salvage her professional reputation...and $250,000 plus damages.

I hope she wins! Does anyone think Oprah's off shore help to foriegn countries is strange?

Why does she not help her own people in this country? I guess she knows everyone will see her bias.

Why not help boys as well, why just girls?

What is her real agenda?

All good questions, however, it appears that too many of the “charity cases” that Oprah tried to help in the USA had a “gimme gimme” attitude, while the South Africans only asked for books and education. Quite a difference in outlook.

Looks like Okrah Weakknees has some more problems...

She could have found plenty of reputable charities in the USA. And, with her influence, she could have made sure they were straight up. She gets burned trying to be politically correct in a modern banana republic

She should help out Barry's half-brother who lives in a hut!

She threw money at Chicago black kids and saw what they really wore. She got frustrated and gave up on them. That’s why she went to her “roots” in Africa.

Oprah has enough money to start her own charity in this country, but no she has to go to Africa to 'rescue' her people.

Sorry but that IS racist.

I 'm sure I can find her some good charities that do not have the 'gimme gimme's.

But she won't ask me because I'm white so I must be a racist!

That's absurd. Oprah has talked about this many, many times. She said she felt kids in America don't appreciate anything...so she wanted to do good where it would mean something. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HER donating in Africa. That's what you're supposed to do. Israel was built on the backs of American Jews. Christians do missionary work around the world...Christian charities work around the world...so why are you singling out Oprah.

The attacks on Oprah here are unAmerican. Attacking someone who actually does what they say they're going to do because you don't particularly like how she's spending her money is absurd.

This is no different than the CEO of (insert yout favorite name here)getting millions of dollars as a bonus for running the business into the ground! Where was Oprah? She should know that oversight is everything!

Oprah also has not been providing oversight for her Mom's expenses either.

What is going on with Oprah? She is falling down on the job.

But of course it isn't HER problem.

It is called Responsibility!

Are you sure you are a conservative? You are resorting to personal attacks on my character because I do not agree with you. You have stated in print that I am Un-American?

Where are your manners?

Why does she not help her own people in this country?”

Didn’t Ayers/Obama take care of educational failings in Oprah’s home base on the South Side of Chicago thru the $150,000,000.00 Annenberg Challenge? No need for educational assistance there ... those kids are now way ahead of the national norm, aren’t they ?

I have no idea, but I doubt it. Stats anyone? Someone tell Hildy to do her job and find the stats to support Oprah is wonderful.

Oprah was naive enough to think that giving money to such an organization in a third world hell hole would actually be used for the students.

"Oprah Winfrey is being sued by the former headmistress of the Big O's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, according to People magazine. "

I'm reminded of Paul Simon who went to SA to help the Black musicians there make a lot of money(they did)...then, they sued him for more, lol.

WOW...a bit harsh... If you post something on this board, and someone disagrees, either debate them or STFU yourself. What the hell is wrong with you? And quit the childish..”go to DU” crap.

There was a reason, and it wasn’t for not trying; but I now can’t remember what it was.
