GOP To Celebrate McCain/Palin During Obama Visit

This Sunday, while Barack Obama holds a rally in Asheville, local Republican Party activists will gather at the Asheville High School beginning at noon, to show their support for Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin as well as Republican candidates at the local, state, and federal levels. The group will then reconvene at the City-County Plaza for a 3:30 press conference, where candidates and local business owners will talk about why it is essential for Republicans to be elected at all levels of government in order to get our economy and our country back on track.

My Brother, Sister In-law and I decided we had enough and drove up to protest the Obama Speech in the Lion’s den. We did a search on Free Republic to see if there is any organize protest event; found none. However we did find the Buncombe County Republican Party there protesting.

We gladly joined their group. The Republican crowd was over 100 protesters with signs. I heard there were more anti-Obama protesters on the other side of the school.

A lot of the Obama supports where giving us the finger, I just wave back, yelling McCain is the Right Change, about Bill Ayers, and Acorn info. The Obama supports hated us.

My brother was carrying a nice sign questioning Obama socialism connections. This sign was made by the Buncombe County Republican Party.

Some Democrats’ for McCain was there too. We did get some local and international media coverage. I know of one Obama support that is now supporting McCain after we spoke to her. She had no idea about Bill Ayers, and Acorn.

Hats off to Buncombe County Republican Party, you did a great job.

There was a guy photographing the event, I expect to see some photos on http://www.buncombegop.org/ soon.

Thanks a ton for doing this. It looks like the McCain/Palin ticket just isn’t going to campaign. They have never done more than fly over my state. I don’t know what else can be done but to hold our own rallies and broadcast some of the speeches and videos on a screen and pass out bumperstickers and signs. I don’t even know where you can get signs but if I understand it right, we can have our own signs mass printed and document as a contribution to the campaign. Thats actually what I was told by the Dole campaign once when I called the national HQ trying to get a yard sign.

I have a very hard time believing that N.C. is in play.

The only explanation I can think of are Mecklenburg, Orange, and Durham counties. A lot of people there, and would represent a lot of B.O. constituency.

Glad to see Asheville still has a brain. I always liked Asheville. It’s what I think Wilmington would be if you plopped it in the mountains.

Great job!! I wish 0bama would come near where I live so I could have the privilege of protesting against him.

How in the hell could this creep possibly be this close to being elected president of our great country?!?!

Dude, put down the bong. That's all they've been doing is campaigning. Perhaps it doesn't meet your approval, but come on. Your assertion is just ridiculous.

'Lion's Den' is an understatement. Asheville, NC = Berkeley, CA. Good job!

Your flame is rejected. I watched the Dole campaign with anguish in '96 and we lost. Its happening again. We need to light a fire under these peoples behinds to get moving before it is too late.

Thank you so much for being there. I would have gone but my daughter had a soccer game at the same time that the Messiah was speaking. He obviously chose Asheville cause it is nothing but a bunch of drugged out middle aged hippies or rich retired people from New York and New Jersey. It is a very, very liberal area. Asheville is the reason why our district has Schuler as a rep. All of our conservative votes in the rest of the district get cancelled out by the libs in Asheville and the transplants from New York and New Jersey. I need to move deeper into the mountains I guess and get further away from that cess pool.

It was nice to read in our local rag today that Republican voter registration was up and we outnumber dems 2-1 in our county. I live in the county south of Asheville and thank the Lord every day that we chose Henderson County and Buncombe County when we moved here from the coast.

Oh, and I’m not bashing Buncombe County as a whole. Just the libs there. Thanks to all republicans who live and work in Buncombe County. I just feel sorry for you having to live around all the libs. You must feel vastly outnumbered. Keep up the fight!

Great job on the protest. I just couldn’t imagine him in Ashville but, then again, I attended the 20,000 strong Sarah Rally in Carson and we only had about 30 protesters there and they were for sure paid goons. It was unbelievable and most people don’t think CA is in play but you surely couldn’t be convinced by the turnout. She rocks and it was the most excitement I’ve seen in many years. And, the best news is the fact that she didn’t have to pay a rock band for all of those adoring people to show up all decked out and ready to roll.

Just saw the Obama rally on the news. Didn't look very well attended.

Surprisingly, the news gave equal and more-or-less unbiased coverage to the Counter-FReep. Only thing that I didn't like was that it got described as a "Republican Protest" rather than a "McCain Rally". But, it got equal time, and the quotes that were used were OK.

The Eastern part of NC is red territory. Its home to four of our military bases and Walter ‘Freedom Fries’ Jones.

Sarah needs to head to western NC to shore up support in Greensboro, and in the mountains near Morganton, or Hickory. That part of the state is incredibly red - Bush beat Kerry there by 18 pts. Obama is doing much better there this time.

How many people attended? I bet if Sarah and McCain showed up they would pull a lot better than Obama. It is looking like she can pull 2 to 3 times the number as Obama.

I couldn't tell about the Obama rally. "Not very big" meant maybe a couple of thousand. The news didn't make it easy to see the scope of the rally - nice tight shots.

As for the counter-freep, maybe 100 or so. Not too bad for 1) ASHEVILLE, NC 2) No big names there. 3) A gorgeous Weekend where people were doing other things.

I’m actually very surprised that The One has not come here to Nifongville. Considering this place’s racial makeup and past history, it’s very fertile ground for him (and trust me, the local Durhamites, combined with the Dukies and the Heels over in Chapel Hell, would LOVE Obama’s associations with anti-American terrorists like Ayers).

In months of driving around Durham and RTP, I have seen ONE—exactly ONE—McCain/Palin sticker, and that just last week. I have seen hundreds of Obama bumper stickers and yard signs in that same time. I’m considering putting a McCain/Palin sticker of some sort on my truck, because it’s beat to hell anyway and I wouldn’t even notice if somebody keyed it, but then I think how much tires cost if they get slashed, or what might happen if my wife were riding with me. And yes, I’m concerned that kind of stuff might happen here. After all, I live in a place where I’m still firmly convinced that Mike Nifong could get 40% of the vote if he ran for DA again right now.

My guess is if Sarah showed up near Asheville (fairly Lib spot) that she would pull 5,000 to 10,000. Maybe a more red town nearby. I wonder how she would pull in Charlotte?

Obama’s rallies appear to be getting smaller???

I am telling you people - the KoolAide is wearing off. People are starting to wake up. He cannot pull crowds like Sarah can.

I'd guess that you're likely right. It's a moot point, Obama, for all of his wishing, won't be carrying NC. I'm in the Piedmont Triad (should be pretty strong for Obama, I'd think) and there's no way he'll carry this area.

The only people that I've talked to that are voting Obama, would be voting Dem anyway.

Volunteer and contribute. Stop whining people and ignore the polls. Go make calls at McCain HQ to get out the vote. They usually have sandwiches and soda on the weekends. If you are not contributing money or volunteering then at least stop whining. I made 2000 calls over the final weeks of 2004 Bush. I am a busy person who works but I took the last 3 weekends of the election. Other people worked harder.

Obama is a disaster and Biden is half insane. Obama is not Clinton 1992 or 1996. Clinton also never broke 50% and Carter barely broke 50%.

Let’s get to work.

I live near Wake Tech.

Come to Wake County, and I’d bet you’d see the exact opposite proportion of McCP vs. OB signs.

Somehow it seems ironic that OB is a feminine product.

Smart Move! But here North of Asheville, still in Buncombe County, we refuse to give in. Uber Liberal Asheville, is what they advertise, but there is a pretty strong, quiet conservative group! My son in a Buncombe Co. HS says he heard Obama will not be able to keep half of his promises. So, don’t count us out yet, but the only local paper I would buy would be the Hendersonville Times.
