Please take the time to check Prof. Kmiec's website and respond to him at the address at the bottom of the post if you desire. I ask that you keep your correspondence polite and reasoned... If I receive a response I will post it.
Prof. Kmiec,
I could not help but send you a message concerning your support of Senator Obama's "Pro-Life" stance. I assure you I have no desire to attack you for your stance; I just want to understand something more of your motives.
What I seek is further clarification of exactly what pro-life means, in your opinion. I realize, as a lawyer and law professor you are adept in seeing both sides of an argument so you can properly examine a case.
1. Do you believe that human life is a gift from God?
2. Do you believe that abortion is immoral?
3. Do you believe that abortion is murder?
4. Does the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill" apply to abortion?
Next, I have just a few more questions relating to abortion.
5. If you believe at some stage of development abortion is permissible, what stage would that be?
6. Is partial-birth abortion moral or permissible?
7. In the event an abortion fails, would you propose the baby be saved or would you allow the baby to expire?
8. If an abortion fails (the baby is alive outside the womb) would you have a suggested means of termination?
9. At what point in development does a fetus become human life?
Your primary argument seems to be that Barack Obama proposes some change in the way society and government in America works. Could you please elaborate on what those changes would be?
It seems as though you may have some insight that I dont have. Maybe those insights are based upon some private conversation youve had with Senator Obama. Otherwise, I would have to assume you are basing your premise on his promise to redistribute personal income.
If that is truly what you base your assumptions on then do you believe in personal responsibility? Do you believe the Church has a role in helping others? Im led to believe you have some stake in changing what America is all about the principles this country was founded on. Surely you wouldnt argue that Barack Obamas world-view would be the one the founders envisioned. Forgive me, but I find your argument that Senator Obama is pro-life profoundly hard to understand. I would love to come up with some witty analogy, but one escapes me. It seems enough to say that there is some separation of reality to believe that Senator Obama, who through his entire political life has supported the right to choose (show me that in the Constitution) is in any way pro-life. Even at that, he doesnt stop with the right to choose. He goes past partial birth abortion and all the way to supporting the killing of children born alive.
I pray for your sake that this is not just some strange way to support your own political aspirations. Im sure that being Catholic, you understand how precious life is and would in no way play with human life for political gain.
Sincerely,
Gordon Greene

If you get a chance, see if you have anything to add for Prof. Kmiec... his email is at the bottom of the post (hope it’s current)!
Kmiec was a Romney supporter upset that his guy lose the GOP primary. He is now shilling for Obama in the worst possible way. Kmiec is typical of Romney supporters.
Comong soon: fact sheet & talking points about O’s prolife record.
Happy hunting, professor. Maybe Gianna Jessen can help you find what you’re not looking for.
He’s now a paid staffer for Obama’s “Matthew 25” PAC which is intent on competing for religious voters of all stripes, including evangelicals.
Between Kmiec and Kathleen Parker, you may be on to something. Romney was my very reluctant third choice (after Hunter, then Thompson) so I don't think I'm affected!
“Kmiec was a Romney supporter upset that his guy lose the GOP primary. He is now shilling for Obama in the worst possible way. Kmiec is typical of Romney supporters.”
Huh?? My entire family were for Romney. Now we are supporting McCain. We are strongly pro-life. Please do not insult other pro-lifers on this thread by insinuating we are like Kmiec.
Well, I wrote to Profesor Kmiec and told him that GOOD Catholics cannot vote for Obama.
I added this also: “After reading all the gymnastic excuses you managed to twist into a pro-life stance, I can only ask you whether Senator Obama will be your character witness when you meet your Creator at Judgement time?”
I wonder whether I will get an answer.
I suspect there will be no answer. In any case, your reply was very well stated... luckily, we’re not held accountable for how others choose, only whether we share the truth we know.
Pardon my cynicism. I think Kmiec believes it is a Democratic year and is angling for a judgeship.
Hey Dougie.....your BISHOPS are even saying that a Practicing Catholic can NOT vote for as PRO-ABORTION supporter......so LISTEN UP, Bud!!
