PARIS (AFP) Wall Street's sickness and its contagiousness for the world economy are bad news for the already faltering effort to craft a new pact to tackle climate change.
Tighter budgets, shrinking corporate profits and worries about jobs could crimp manoeuvering room at upcoming UN talks on toughening curbs on greenhouse-gas emissions, sources say.
But -- so far, at least -- the crisis does not appear to be having an impact on investment in clean technology, say these sources. Indeed, some are confident that spending on wind, solar and other renewables may even rise.

Well said! It’s going to be tough for Algore and his comrades to continue playing their con game if everyone is broke.
The one positive thing about the financial mess is not having to hear the endless global warming sob stories.
Leftists have always refused to acknowledge that environmentalism is a luxury of comfortable societies. (Suffering societies care little about dying trees when their own children are dying of starvation.) If you decrease the comforts of society, you automatically decrease its enthusiasm for money-wasting technology with uncertain benefits.
LOL. no kidding. When you entire net worth has just tanked, who cares?
Global warming my backside!
This is the first year that i’ve lit the furnice in October that I can remember and we lit it last night.
We’re on the coast in Oceanside, CA!
The environmental movement has very, very little to do with the environment and EVERYTHING to do with controlling energy and then using energy to control the means of production. In other words, promoting Communism.
If it weren’t about promoting Communism then the green freaks would be shrieking about all of the third world countries and the developing nations along with China and India. In doing so they would be actually attacking the REAL environmental problems. However, the whole goal has very little to do with the environment and EVERYTHING to do with controlling energy. That’s why the green freaks are so dead set against nuclear as well. Nuclear power IS clean, period. But they don’t want that either. That goes against the ability to control energy and the means of production.
thank you.
.
Agreed with your post on the real issues behind environmentalism, however, environmentalism is the means they are using to force developed countries to put their means of production under international control and environmentalism as an argument works only if you can induce guilt. Guilt requires luxury, in my opinion. The guilt part is tied to economic health of a society and when that is threatened, the guilt decreases and environmentalism loses its punch. It would then require the watermelons to find another facade behind which to attack capitalism and Western values.
Forgot to include a certain point. Unlike earlier movements masking ulterior motives, it will be somewhat difficult to adopt another facade than environmentalism because the tree-hugger acolytes have adopted a quasi-religious zeal in pushing environmentalism. It will be more difficult to convince the deluded “true believers” that it was only a facade for other goals. Not impossible, but difficult and traumatic for some. ;o)
Reality is a harsh mistress.
Since the bailout included big subsidies for wind, solar, and renewables, there will always be an "investor" feeding at the trough.

Nietsche - “Erst kommt das Fressen, und dann die Moral.”
Means exactly what you said. Only, more. He said “Fressen”, instead of “Essen.” The distinction is that fressen is dog food. If you can’t even afford dog food for your kids, screw the dang trees.
No cloud without a silver lining!
Green technologies is scheduled to be the next big investment bubble, meltdown coming in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...(years)
It is one of those universal truths that liberals have so assiduously tried to deny. My uncle was a soil scientist with the United Nations for awhile. He spent some years in Nepal studying the soil erosion problems there, caused by poor people stripping the lower slopes of trees for fuel.

Al Gore warned us! This is a crisis! The sky is falling ... or at least CO2 is rising! We're all going to die or be driven to cannibalism! The first sign of Global Warming is the drop in temperatures, and that's here! We can't wait just to deal with an economic crisis, not when we have a climate crisis to panic about! We can't wait to gather facts on either one, not when we can get ahead on panicing before we're too far behind to panic with all our friends and we have to panic alone!
Yay!

Global Warming on Free Republic

Amen, brother...
Precisely!
