Army combat unit to deploy within U.S.
CNN ^ | 03 Oct 2008 | Larry Shaughnessy

The United States military's Northern Command, formed in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, is dedicating a combat infantry team to deal with catastrophes in the U.S., including terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

The 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry, which was first into Baghdad, Iraq, in 2003, started its controversial assignment Wednesday.

The First Raiders will spend 2009 as the first active-duty military unit attached to the U.S. Northern Command since it was created. They will be based in Fort Stewart, Georgia, and focus primarily on logistics and support for local police and rescue personnel, the Army says.

The plan is drawing skepticism from some observers who are concerned that the unit has been training with equipment generally used in law enforcement, including beanbag bullets, Tasers, spike strips and roadblocks.

That kind of training seems a bit out of line for the unit's designated role as Northern Command's CCMRF (Sea Smurf), or CBRNE Consequence Management Response Force. CBRNE stands for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosive incidents.

According to Northern Command's Web site, the CBRNE Consequence Management Response Force is a team that will ultimately number about 4,700 personnel from the different military branches that would deploy as the Department of Defense's initial response force.

Needed for defense against the rioting that would take place if Obama were to lose?

It just might take the 3rd ID to deal with the moonbat riots after McCain wins in November.

They’d be better stationed in Sierra Vista, AZ.

If McCain wins, there will be rioting, and the US Army will be called in to help quell riots.

If Obama wins, the terrorists will be emboldened, and the US Army will be called in to cleanup the mess after the attacks.

Either way, we're gonna need these guys.

I doubt that would occur. If it does, armed Americans can handle it.

The thing to think about is THIS.

What if Obama wins? The PRECEDENT IS SET - use military force internally to “control” Americans.

Instead of putting the military INSIDE America - it should be put on our borders.

George Bush is insane and his advisers are out of their collective minds.

Here’s a strange coincidence.
I had posted this yesterday on another thread.

Germany to allow domestic military deployment.

After years of debate, top decision-makers with Germany’s coalition partners the Christian Democrats and Social Democrats have agreed that domestic deployment of the country’s military should be allowed in emergency. CDU party head Volker Kauder and his SPD counterpart Peter Struck announced the plan to ammend the constitution after a coalition committee meeting. Both stressed that soldiers may only be deployed to control situations beyond the capacity of police. They named protection against a terrorist threat as a possible example.

Sad state when we allow GERMANY to dictate how we use our military forces DOMESTICALLY!

If massive riots occur, there will be time to call out the national guard. Meanwhile, armed American citizens can well protect themselves.

AGAIN, Bush is setting a DANGEROUS precedent in the event OBAMA gets elected.

Bush is out of his mind.

Bingo. And I think there will be some "celebration" riots if he wins....maybe seeking retribution and vindication for percieved past insults.

The question will be does Bush have the guts to order the US Army to put riots down, or will it be left to the States and the National Guard?

There are plenty of tinfoil hat believers that wouldn’t be surprised by the coincidence. I have to be honest that as time goes by, I recognize the trends that they always screamed about.

Freepers:

The governments of the so-called “free world” are afraid. They are afraid that when the economic bubble really does go “bust” that the masses of people in our urban areas who have no idea how to make do like our forebears did in the 30’s will not react well.

I suggest that their fear is well-placed. Four thousand troops will be a drop in the bucket on the urban eastern seaboard and are outnumbered by the gangs of East LA. In fly-over country we won’t have to worry out the Troopers hassling us - we will have to worry about saving their butts from the homies.

There is always the National Guards as well as police swat teams to control any riots.
