U.S. Rep. Barney Frank claims conservatives are trying to partly blame the nation’s economic woes on black people.
“This is an effort I believe to appeal to a kind of anger in people,” Frank, a Newton Democrat who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, today told a Boston foreclosure-prevention forum.
Frank charged that conservatives aim to shift blame for the market meltdown away from Wall Street and toward minority-lending laws like the federal Community Reinvestment Act.

Have a source to back up some of that certainty? I can tell you the majority of potentially bad loans (alt-a and subprime) were NOT made under CRA (#'s for 2006: 1T in shady loans, 60B in CRA)
And it was that kind of shameless demagoguery that got us into this mess in the first place. No more! Congressman Frank, the American people have had enough of you using race as an excuse to bully your political opponents.
Nobody cares if the people are black, white, or pink with yellow polkadots. If they can’t pay back the loan, they shouldn’t get the loan.

A lot of people here want to assign all or majority blame to democrats or to whoever. It doesn’t compute, cheap credit in the quantity we got it was only possible with Greenspan and the shady financial securities industry. Sure, Congress got their dibs in but they were just sponging off the gravy train.
