LEE COUNTY: Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott is standing by some controversial comments he made at Governor Sarah Palin's rally on Monday - comments already gaining national attention. While speaking on stage, Scott referred to the Democratic presidential candidate by his full name, Barack Hussein Obama. "Ladies and gentleman, there are three types of people in our country today. There are people that make things happen, there are people that watch things, and there are people who wonder what happened. On November 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened," said Sheriff Scott to the crowd at Germain Arena Monday afternoon. Those comments didn't go over well with the McCain Campaign, but Sheriff Scott says he meant no harm by his remarks. "Apparently there are a lot of people inferring something from his name, I don't know. My name is Joseph. I don't know what you would infer from that. Am I Joseph in the stable with Mary? What do you take from that? I don't know," said Sheriff Scott.
"We do not condone this inappropriate rhetoric which distracts from the real questions of judgment, character, and experience that voters will base their decisions on this November." The Obama Campaign also sent out a response of its own. "It's an implication that whoever has a Muslim-sounding name is Muslim, but the fact of the matter is he's Christian and always has been. It sounds like the tone of today's rally was based on negative attacks and fear tactics." Voters we spoke to were split on the issue. "It's an effort to derive negative emotion," said Lee County resident Mark Besser. "A guy was using his name and if somebody is trying to come back after the fact and say that he said his full name for political reasons, I think we have a problem," said voter Greg Bettice.
In February of this year, controversy rose over the derisive use of Obama's middle name by a radio host during a McCain function. Sheriff Scott claimed to be unaware and says he did not intend to provoke the crowd in the same manner.
The McCain Campaign sent out the following statement in response after the remarks were made:

Yeah the sheriff told the truth, but this shouldn’t be allowed. Sheriffs shouldn’t be allowed to use their offices to promote their candidate of choice (unless it’s a sheriff in Missouri). Which clearly Texas isn’t.
See this is why Free Speech needs government oversight and regulation - to prevent this type of stuff from happening....

I don’t believe he always has been. I do believe he is a black liberation Christian now regardless of what he had to do as a kid. I do think his campaign is trying to hide his Muslim upbringing in his early years but I don’t think that is a necessary path of attack.

The Democrats have no problem with ‘satire’ in which Gov. Palin’s husband is accused of raping his daughters (”We have no evidence he has, thena gain we have no evidence he hasn’t).
But ... in some bizzare twist of reality ... saying the full name of the Democratic nominee is somehow wrong.

When my husband used his middle name at work, people wondered what connection Oboma had to Saddam. My husband quickly educated them. Their faces went blank. They had no idea a guy named Hussein was actually trying to get into our White House. My husband found it quite amusing.

The explanation is that Barack's father named Barack after his Catholic turned muslim grandfather.
So it is a muslim (not by birth) name branded on him by his non-practicing muslim father.
Barack may not be a muslim (now) but it is disingenious to claim that Barack Hussein Obama has no muslim heritage behind that name.
