Perfect opportunity to blame the gas lines on the democrats, Liddy Dole will increase supplies and lower prices, Kay Hagan supports the democratic limitations on drilling

The bad thing is that McCain has to spend money and time in NC and he has less money.
Dole will win...McCain will win and we will get a Republican guv. BUT.it’s interesting to see the spread. McCrory is leading by a wider margin as is McCain. Dole’s re-election hinges on Palin IMHO

Like Reagan, I don’t believe in a fate you can’t avoid no matter what you do. To win that race Gilmore needs to get very aggressive. He should pounce on his NRA-bashing, the bailout, taxes. Over and over.
Warner is a likely POTUS candidate for 2012. We shouldn’t let him walk in unopposed.

I read yesterday that North Carolina has had 600,000 new voters registered this year.
Six hundred thousand new voters in a state that Bill Clinton once lost by only 20,000 votes.
About half of those new voters have registered Democrat, about a third Independent, leaving only about 20% for the Republicans and all the other parties (Libertarians, Green, etc.)

McCain need only make one visit there and he could do that on a swing from VA to FL. Palin should be there a couple more times.
That means NC is going to be a battleground in coming years. The GOP needs a long term strategy. We need to more aggressively court youth and hispanics.

In the Triad the Dems have been better organized and more visible. Hate to say it but thats how it appears at least. Can’t speak for anywhere else. My state will become harder to hold. The triangle area is getting flooded with northern transplants who tend to vote lib and the hispanic population is exploding.
I’m not in the Dole campaign, but I would certainly lend a hand if there was an opportunity. :-)
FYI, there were two really damning radio interviews of Kay Hagan on WPTF’s AM 680 Raleigh morning show recently hosted by Jeff Metcalf. Hagan embarrassed herself at every turn when listeners called in to ask questions. She stumbled, wobbled, and couldn’t answer questions such as the following. Name three areas you disagree with the liberals in Washington, or do you support drilling, etc. These were really miserable performances that stunned everyone who heard them.
In the spirit of honesty though I need to admit, I WAS one of the callers. And my question was a tough one for her!
Gilmore is not popular. His ratings went down after he left office when Mark Warner criticized him about causing a budget "crisis" that Mark had to deal with. It was echoed by the media.
I agree with you about not letting Warner in unopposed since I too think he will run for the presidency.
But with a democrat media and a truly horrific state Republican leadership, Warner will sweep to victory in a walk.
I live in Colorado, and it has been the same story here. I haven't been able to go to the grocery store since the middle of summer without seeing people doing voter registration standing outside. I always ask what their party affiliation is and they always say that they are Democrats.
I live in one of the most conservative counties in the country, and all I've seen is Democrats, Democrats, Democrats.
I asked one of my children who is away at college what it's like there. The same story.
It makes me more than a bit sad and angry that the GOP doesn't seem to be doing much to reach out to new voters or to voters that haven't traditionally voted Republican, as that is a poor long-term strategy for winning elections.
Liddy Dole’s plight represents the state of the GOP. Back in 2002, she easily won when Bush’s approval ratings were sky high. With the GOP brand in the dumpster, Dole is running for her life against a 2nd tier opponent. Hope Dole pulls it out.
This is mildly encouraging news, as Elizabeth Dole had been narrowly trailing for the past month or so. She hasn’t been a large presence in the state, giving some the impression that she was coasting on her celebrity.
